How do you know that you exist?

You could be a simple brain in a machine in a room programmed to think that you exist in a fictional place called earth.

We all could be billions of individual machines in a huge factory programmed to think we exist alongside each other. There is no possible way to prove this wrong.

Christians always ask this questions to atheists and the atheists always have the same answer;

Atheist answer;
We do not believe in things without evidence. It is logically possible that we could all be in a simulation and our "real bodies" are just machines in some factory somewhere. But then, there is no evidence for it. It is also very unlikely as the evidence for now points outs that consciousness is biological and it would be difficult for such simulation to explain procreation- the fact that we give birth to new conscious beings as well.

This simulation is a possiblity but no evidence for it. We take it the same way we take the existence of big foot. It is a possibility and logical that a human-like ape lives in the jungle (afterall, there are gorrillas) but we have no evidence for it despite explorimg most land on earth......no evidence, no belief.


The failed christian answer;
God gives us the certainty we need to know we are alive through revelation. God created this world and us. We worship him and we know we exist as we are made in his image.

1) A christian (Eric Hovind) went around asking the question at an atheist rally and that was the general answer he got. One atheist just explained it the best

2) As for the christian answer, it is the only answer a christian can give. Feel free to give a different answer. Infact, I will post a picture of me dying my hair purple if you give a christian answer based in christian theology different from the one I gave.
