Please, number 9 happens even in Nigeria. That one relative that thinks it his life mission to make your life miserable. Dragging for food in your mummy's pot. Competing for food as if your mum is their mum. And your parents cant complain. angry angry angry. They tell you to allow him, no matter what. "Just leave him alone, he is your uncle, take money, go and buy suya" angry angry angry

mine was oya go and buy buns for you and your sister

I almost gagged while reading this thread....the best thread this year....so far...

Someone rightly pointed out that all these stuffs leaves you with a thick skin...
and years later, makes you laugh.

The most painful for me was the CNN part...

I would just be watching a very interesting series or something that appeals to a teen..and then popsi would just walk into the "parlour" like Volton and the first thing would be "Dozie" put CNN for me...The man no go send me...him go just strong face....
and me, BROKE tenant go dey boil...LMAOOOOOOOOO....

Also, momsi would just command me like army general "DOZIE" go and bring broom and sweep this parlour!! AND while i'm sweeping "DOZIE!!!" common!!! bring your hand down...

this was like 10+ years ago...LMAOOOOO

Not all that we experienced growing up is good. We need to do a constant re-evaluation and do away with the less desirable.

We create dictators and aggressive human beings with no conscience when we don't teach them to be sorry and apologise when they get things wrong. You are not the right party simply because you are the elder. If parents are wrong they also need to own up and apologise to their children.

Teach them that respect is earned and not a birth-right because you are the senior. That every one deserves to be respected no matter how little they are.

Love them and build a home that they can feel at peace in. They should not fight the world and come home and also not find peace there.

They are your responsibility so protect them with all your being don't just hand them to others.

Teach them about self discipline and discipline them in love.

Don't just have 10 children because you can but because you can look after them and nurture them.
