The bible is the word of God

Loyal Christians down through the years have accepted the Bible as a book verbally inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:16). The word “inspired” means literally “God breathed”. Inspiration is the strong, conscious in-breathing of God into the minds of human writers, thus qualifying them to put into circulation the truth. Inspiration is God speaking through men, and the bible is therefore the word of God as if He spoke every single word of it with His own lips. 2 Peter 1:21 says that Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
I believe in the full, verbal, plenary inspiration of the Bible. Every part of the scriptures (in the original documents) is verbally (word for word) inspired by God. Every sentence, every line, every word, every mark, every point, every penstroke, every doting of the i, and every crossing of the t, was placed there by God Himself. All scripture is inspired of God, of all of it is inspired of God, then none of it is uninspired! We will note seven observations that support verbal inspiration.

1. The Bible’s Amazing Composition

The Bible was written through the instrumentality of men. God is the author, but there are more than 40 human writers. They wrote 66 individual books during a period of sixteen hundred years. The first part of the Bible was written fifteen hundred years before the writer of the last book was even born. These 40 men grew up in thirteen different countries. They lived on three different continents and spoke three different languages. Some of the writers were kings; others were fishermen. Some were statesmen, herdsmen, shepherds, doctors, men of learning, men without learning, men from every condition of life. What would you naturally expect from a book written in such remote periods of time, under such varying circumstances, by some many different persons – but absolute contradiction and discord, and a total lack of unity? But the marvel of it all is that out of all these differing circumstances has come the Bible, which is one whole complete unit from Genesis to Revelation. The writers lived far apart in time and space, yet every part of the bible fits perfectly in place. The Bible has only one theme. It deals everywhere with man’s complete ruin in sin and God’s perfect remedy in Jesus Christ. There is one central message, one code of ethics, and one plan of salvation. Surely God was the author who spoke through many writers.

2. The Bible Claims To Inspirational

The Bible claims to be the word of God. Expressions such as “The Lord commanded,” or “The Lord spoke saying,” are used more than two thousand times in the Old Testament alone. If you open to the book of Leviticus (at random anywhere in the book), and read the very first verse of the chapter before you, it likely says, “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying.” It does not say, “Moses spoke, saying.”
The Bible claims to be divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16). And the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:37, “the things that I write unto you are the commandment of the Lord.” If I did not believe that God had written the Bible, I would not want it around our home. More than 2700 times there is in the bible a claim to inspiration – and if the Bible is not the word of God, then there are 2700 lies within its pages. I would not want a book fostering so much false hold around our home for our children to read. We must either accept the Bible for what it claims to be, or set it aside as unworthy of our confidence.

3. The Bible Unending Appeal

Books that are two thousand years are scarcely read by the general public today. Only one out of two hundred books published this year will still be published seven years from now. But the Bible popularity has steadily grown throughout its history of more than three thousand years. Century after century it continues to renew its youth. The Bible appeal is an exception to the law of bestsellers. It defiles all competitions. More than forty millions copies in 1, 700 languages are published every year. The Bible is read from the last tiny island in the South Pacific to the cold snow-hut of the Eskimos in Alaska. The Bible speaks of all nations; it is valued by all races; it is loved by many groups of people, such a book is without parallel in human literature and its nothing less than a miracle.

4. The Bible Scientific Accuracy

The Bible was written in a non-scientific age. Its writers were not scientists. The bible is not a text book on science, but when it touches on a scientific subject it is always accurate.
Job lived in a day when all the wise men believed and thought that the earth was supported on a platform, resting on the back of elephant which was standing on the shell of a mighty turtle that was standing on the coil of a great snake. They believe that the earth quake when the elephant shook themselves. That was what the learned men of Job’s day believed. How did Job know to utter a strictly scientific truth when he said, “God hangs the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7)? Job was writing better than he knew because God was speaking through him.
Isaiah lived in a day when all persons believed the earth was four-cornered and flat. They even told Columbus (a little more than 500 years ago) that he will get to the ends of the earth and drop off. How did Isaiah know that the earth was round, and not flat, when he said, “God sits upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22)? The fact is those scientists have not yet catch up with the science of the word of God. Don’t ever let a learned scientist lead you to believe that the bible is unscientific and out of date. The Bible is always ahead of date.

5. The Bible Miraculous Preservation

The scripture says, “Forever o Lord your word is settled in Heaven” (Psalm 119:89). You may as well try and keep the sun from shining as to stop the forward march of the Bible. And yet when we consider the persecution and hatred toward the bible down through the centuries, we marvel that it exists at all. The Bible is not only the most loved book in the world, it is also the most hated book. The Bible teaches things that are distasteful to human beings, and as a result, they have either rejected it or attempted to explain away its meaning. Thomas Paine wrote his book The age of reason, “fifty years hence the Bible will obsolete and forgotten” But the very press on which that book was printed was afterwards used to print thousands of Bibles. Lenin, the founder of modern communism, said one time, “I expect to live long enough to attend to attend the funeral of all religion” But Paine and Lenin have passed on to the eternal word. The Bible is still here!

Before the invention of the printing press, Bibles has to be copied by hand. They were scarce and expensive. Bibles were chained to tables to tables in the churches, and people paid a sum of money to read them for a short period of time. Besides the scarcity and expense, there was bitter persecution. For centuries, in many countries, it was a criminal offense to be caught reading the Bible. Bibles were burn to light the street of cities at night, they were burn to shreds and buried at sea. But empires has risen and fallen; kings have been crowned and uncrowned; civilization has changed – yet the Bible has never been destroyed. Men may spurn the Bible, they may burn it, they may abuse it, they may misuse it – but while their bodies are crumbling back to the dust of the earth, the Bible will continue on its forward march. This word of God will never pass away.

6. The Bible Fulfilled Prophecies

Human beings simply do not know what is going to happen next. The most striking characteristic about the Bible is the fact that it predict in plane language events that will take place in the future history of mankind. And then God confirms what He says by bringing them to pass. The Koran of the Muslims and the sacred books of other pagan religions contain no prophecies whatsoever, but every last prophecy of the Bible that was to have taken place to the present time, have been literally fulfilled. Many examples could be given, but we take time for just one. Jesus and two male factors were hanging on the cross. The Sabbath was approaching and the soldiers were ordered to break their legs, they went to Calvary and they broke the leg of the two male factors, but when they came to Jesus, they stopped! They did not break His legs. Why? You say, “Because He was dead already.” Why did not they say, “We will be sure this blasphemer is dead, we will break them anyhow”? Why? Because more than 4,000 years ago, God said of Jesus Christ, “Not a bone of Him shall be broken” (Exodus 12:46). The Romans soldiers could not have broken the bones of Jesus anymore than they could stop a planet from its flight in the Heavens. When God speaks it will be carried out.

7. The Bible transforming Power

Many trailing stories could be told about the transforming power of the word of God. The Bible changes the lives of human beings. Drunkards have been made sober; harlots have become pure and decent; thieves have been made honest and upright. The Bible has lifted ignorant, superstitious savages from the dept of satanic bondage and transforms them into men of God. The cannibal tribes of the South Sea have been transformed into gentle peace and loving people. Every page of the Bible speaks of Jesus Christ, our savior. Christ is the center, the end, the core, and the circumference of all the scripture. Anyone who studies the bible, and believes its contents and sincerely accepts the Christ whom it reveals – will experience a complete change of life. The Bible is the only book in the entire world whose teaching has the marvelous power to make bad people good, completing changing their character.
The Bible changes the lives of people. It was the Bible transforming power that enabled an early Christian named Ignatius to say (while on his way to be devoured of beast), “The closer I get to the lions, the nearer I get to God.” When Polycarp was given a chance to renounce his savior, he said, “Eighty and six years have I serve him, and He never did me wrong. How can I renounce my king and my savior?” He did not get that testimony from a $4.95 novel. The Bible had transformed his life! That testimony was the outgrowth of an experience with the Christ who is revealed within the pages of the Bible. Certainly a book that lifts men and women up to God like the Bible does must have come down from God! Each of us had better become serious about the message of the Bible. Soon this life will be over and we will stand before God. The Bible will be the text book of Heaven. We can spurn the Bible here, but we are going to meet it over there. Jesus says in John12:48, “The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him on the last day.”

Pastor, have you heard of the Ethiopian Bible? More than 20 extra books that the Western preachers that go and spread propaganda in Africa will not read.
This is my main problem with these people Pastor. Because it is right there in Africa. Yes! Ethiopia. They have no respect for Africa or Africans. Why not tell them that the Ethiopian Bible is a more "complete" "word of God"?
No, but they will tell the Africans all about Rome and the Pope and their Vatican.

Pastor Olu, if you have access to the internet then you can do a search of the Ethiopian bible.
Its has many more books than that of the bible the westerners call the word of God.
The irony of it is that one the oldest bible is in Ethiopia. This is a fact. Even quoted by HIM. Right in Africa. Yet we Africans let others come and tell us what to believe and what to read and what not to read and more confusion all the while.

But the Europeans who go to Africa never tell you that in Ethiopia is one of the oldest bibles. Yet when they get their Doctors in Theology they are taught about these things.

I believe in the creator. The Most High God. The Source of all. The Supreme. Those with a clean heart will see him/it.

Any how Pastor, Give thanks.

Bible is not the word of God! Does it make any sense or provide any tangible reason?

Pls the Ethiopian bible you're talking about does it mean it was written by Ethiopians or just a name because the only thing I know about origin of the Bible is that "The Apocrypha and the Septuagint
There is a cluster of about 14 books, known as the Apocrypha, which were written some time between the close of the Old Testament (after 400 B.C.) and the beginning of the New.They were never considered as part of the Hebrew Scriptures, and the Jews themselves clearly ruled them out by the confession that there was, throughout that period, no voice of the prophets in the land. They looked forward to a day when “a faithful prophet” should appear.
The Old Testament had been translated into Greek during the third century B.C., and this translation is known as the Septuagint, a word meaning 70, after the supposedly 70 men involved in the translation. It was the Greek Septuagint that the disciples of Jesus frequently used since Greek was the common language of the day.
Whether or not the Septuagint also contained the Apocrypha is impossible to say for certain, since although the earliest copies of the Septuagint available today do include the Apocrypha—placed at the end—these are dated in the fifth century and therefore cannot be relied upon to tell us what was common half a millennium earlier. Significantly, neither Jesus nor any of the apostles ever quoted from the Apocrypha, even though they were obviously using the Greek Septuagint. Josephus was familiar with the Septuagint and made use of it, but he never considered the Apocrypha part of the Scriptures.

Thanks!

Where in the Bible is it written that the books "Genesis - revelations" are the words or word of God? where did the concept originate from? No book can hold the Word of the Creator of all that exist, except you refer to a different one as God. Please educate me on how you came to your conclusion.

There is nothing like Word of God, or Holy bible: the idea is borne out of that innate carnal nature of Man to materialize Spirit, that nature that seeks a material idol of worship. Please clear it off your mind. You can not capture the Word of God,it created the foundation of the worlds, and its the reason why there is physicality, the reason why we are here at all. Again, this is not the Bible. Classifying the Bible or any book as Word of God is of Carnality. The Christ, The Messiah as at today is the only Word of God and not the Bible - This is well expressed in the writings of John from Patmos Island (Revelations 19:13).

I will only quote one phrase from this 2 Tim 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God,....."

These words """Inspiration of God""" simply means God's Spirit.
Linking this with that John 1:1 ""In the beginning was the word........"" the words you're speaking from your mouth is immaterials. It's this same word that became flesh John 1:14

If that's what you believe anyway goodluck to you beside christians shouldn't be argued on things like this rather than to focus on salvation. Thanks

Timothy said all Scripture and not "Genesis to Revelation", note that there are many kinds of scripture. He obviously never heard of the compilation of books called Bible and I'm very sure he will be amused to find out that his writings are now being classified as Word Of God. The fact that they are inspired by Spirit still does not mean they are Word of God or void of the writer's point of view. They are profitable for a guideline, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in the way of righteousness: This means they are a guide for you to understand righteousness in Spirit and the Word Of God who is the Christ but the books itself is not the Word of God. Many people today are still writing literatures as inspired by Spirit and directing people to a Life in the Christ (righteousness) but this does not make these writings the Word of God. Its just like saying Rhapsody of Realities by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome or Everyday with Jesus or the so many Spirit inspired literatures of today are Word of God. One must read these books/literatures to understand the undelining message in the writer's argument and seperate this from the writers personal opinion. Even though inspired by spirit, the writer's perspective, exposure, culture, society etc. must have a subliminal impact on the subject/theme of the book. Once again, the Bible is a literature to guide us to righteousness and NOT the Word of God.

You make some good points.
Yo do know that here are books that are referenced in the bible that are around until this day but are not part of the cannon.
As person (yourself) who is as informed in this matter will surprise me if you did not know that.

The question is why are they not part of the cannon?

The reason why I point at the Ethiopian bible is because it has more book than that of the 66 book standard bible. So how can the word of God be short of books?
OK, the Catholic bible uses the Apocrypha but the Ethiopian bible has more, 81 books.

Jude quoted from the book of Enoch. You do know that right?

Have you read this books? The book of Tobit for example?

Get it right anything you received through the inspiration of God comes directly from God. The reason why Holyspirit reveal that statement through Timothy is the point you stated above "void of the writer's point of view" it means all those words is not just an imagination of man but what the spirit of God has revealed through man. Some songs are also inspiration of God i.e all christains HYMNS. The compilation of all inspired written statement from men through God's spirit are "WORD OF GOD" the reason why Bible takes the lead is because it's the beginning/origin for other inspirational book.

What I'm here to let you know is that Bible is a word of God, any materials written by a man with the help of Holyspirit is also a word of God.

If you start from Genesis to Revelation or any other inspirational book from any man of God..they are all proven God's love towards all mankind.

How do you allow the word of God to dwell in you richly? Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;...."

Thanks

Why are you so concerned with the what the Jews rule out because there was or there was not a prophet in the land at the time? You take that as authority from them? Are these not the same Jews that tell you Jesus is NOT the Messiah?
Yet you believe that he is (I assume).
Here is a clear cut example how you lean to your own understanding of the situation arriving at your own conclusion but when it comes to exploring beyond what the Hebrews or Jews say, you are shackled. Very obedient.

That is my point, who are you or any so called Jew for that matter to say what is inspired or what is not?
How do you explain that the "word of God" did not reach the Amazonian i Brazil until recently?
These people have been living and dying without the "knowledge" that supposedly God sent his son to die for them, which is essential to God's supposedly salvation plan.
Explain this, please.

Back to Jude...Whether Jude was a prophet or not, he did quote from the book of Enoch which people say is in circulation until this day. In fact, is part of the Ethiopian bible!

What you claim to "know" is what has been passed down to you by the so called Jews in their books or literature in their 66 books.

You say you don't need to read all books to know the truth. I agree with you. Yet you confide yourself in books for your truth. I don't understand.

Christians will continue to argue about God until they get their story straight about God. They don't even agree on who is God.

Some thirty-eight hundred times the Bible declares, “God said,” or “Thus says the Lord” (e.g. Ex. 14:1; 20:1; Lev. 4:1; Num. 4:1; Deut. 4:2; 32:48; Isa. 1:10, 24; Jer. 1:11; Ezek. 1:3; etc.). Paul also recognized that the things he was writing were the Lord’s commandments (1 Cor. 14:37), and they were acknowledged as such by the believers (1 Thess. 2:13). Peter proclaimed the certainty of the Scriptures and the necessity of heeding the unalterable and certain Word of God (2 Pet. 1:16-21). John too recognized that his teaching was from God; to reject his teaching was to reject God (1 John 4:6)

My friend, you do realize that when this was written (1 John 4:6) the "bible" was the "old testament". There was no "new testament." In fact the writer was not teaching ANYTHING new. "...Those who know God hears us , he who is not of God does not hear us..."

My point is that John, just added to the "word of God" because there had already been the word of God in the Hebrew or Jewish "bible".
But let's not stop there....in the selection of "the new testament" cannon, writings were left out. So at best, the word of God is incomplete. Imagine that, the word of God missing from scriptures.

Back to the "Old testament" God, said adulterers, homosexuals, disrespectful children and so on are deserving of death. Now follow the word of God and do these things. Of course you would not....It's the Old testament!

By the way...the story about when Jesus told the men who wanted to stone the adulteress woman, that those without sin let them cast the first stone....according to scholar Bart Ehrman, the story is NOT in the oldest or best manuscripts.

Think about the implication of this in the word of God. That story was not in the bible when the cannon was put together! But it is in the bible you read now. So tell the Christian to remove because is the word of a scribe and not of God.

From_Guiriga:
Why are you so concerned with the what the Jews rule out because there was or there was not a prophet in the land at the time? You take that as authority from them? Are these not the same Jews that tell you Jesus is NOT the Messiah?
Yet you believe that he is (I assume).
Here is a clear cut example how you lean to your own understanding of the situation arriving at your own conclusion but when it comes to exploring beyond what the Hebrews or Jews say, you are shackled. Very obedient.

Don't get me wrong I only telling you why they didn't insert those 14books in their scripture.
Yes there rejected Jesus so that you and I can be a partaker of the gosple.

That is my point, who are you or any so called Jew for that matter to say what is inspired or what is not?
Are you fighting somebody?
My own inspiration comes from God I don't know yours.

How do you explain that the "word of God" did not reach the Amazonian Brazil until recently? These people have been living and dying without the "knowledge" that supposedly God sent his son to die for them, which is essential to God's supposedly salvation plan.
Explain this, please.

Don't worry it will get there. Jesus didn't say the whole world will receive the good gosple at once, He said "And this gosple of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nation; and then shall the end com" matt 24:14

Back to Jude...Whether Jude was a prophet or not, he did quote from the book of Enoch which people say is in circulation until this day. In fact, is part of the Ethiopian bible!
All what I needed is in that 66books God's word can never cease or end.

What you claim to "know" is what has been passed down to you by the so called Jews in their books or literature in their 66 books.
If my claims is only on 66books or Jews saying, then I won't be a christian today. You think I'm one of those keep arguing about God but nothing like a tangible evidence to prove the existence of God. NO! I have had a personal evidence that prove to me that God truly exist using the same 66books, so what else do I want to know again?

You say you don't need to read all books to know the truth. I agree with you. Yet you confide yourself in books for your truth. I don't understand.

I'm going to sokoto to buy something but deeping down my hand inside my sokoto I found what I suppose to go sokoto to buy. Do I still need to go to sokoto again?

Christians will continue to argue about God until they get their story straight about God. They don't even agree on who is God.

*If you call your relationship with God a story then there's a problem
This is the major problem in christendom today people are no more worshiping God but still looking on how Moses parted red sea, the power that David used to kill Goliath, how come Jesus resurrected without his body rotten instead to concentrate on worshiping the most high.

I don't argue mush about religions because I have found the truth I needed, I always share my thought as Holyspirit leaded but if you still want to continue to argue I rest my case.

But please just concentrate much on how God can use you more.

Shallom!

II SAMUEL 24 "AND again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah".

While the author of Samuel 24 above, makes God the boss of the situation, the author of Chronicles below gives credit to the Devil.

I CHRONICLES 21 "AND SATAN stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel".
