3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Stephenomozzy(m): 9:38am On Jun 11, 2013
For sometime now i'v always been so passionate to learn 3d modeling and animation...bt i couldn't find any body who cud guide me true...i've seen and heard of great 3d software like...3dmaxs, Maya, Cinema4d....and i've even seen great graphics posted on their various forum on nigeria's no 1 forum {NAIRALAND}....all these ignited my passion the more to want to learn any type of 3d modeling and animation software.....so last week friday [7 june] i sat down wit my little nokia 2330c and i decided to learn one small 3d package i can find [no matter how low e be, sofa e dey model], then i surfed google, and saw a friendly review of 'BLENDER 3D', so i use mtn 2hr plan to download it to my PC...."it was just 35mb". So i searched for tutorials for the novice who wants to learn 3d with BLENDER...and i found this great site that has the most explanatory tutorial of programme as complex as 3d..where u can either read it online or download the pdf format.

The reason i created this thread is nt becos i've become a pro, bt becos i am convinced that if i can patiently read the book, then i can move mountains [achieve professionalism].

Also i want this our great nation to grow in every area of computer graphics so that we can also compete worldwide in terms of computer graphics....

if you need the link to download the software 4 free just request.....

And also the free download link to read or download the tutorial in pdf....

Its always great to meet another blender-head. Irrespective of the software you use, the principles are basically thesame. You model, texture, animate.... but blender is great because there are limitless resources online. + its free. Will post a link once I complete my portfolio. cheesy

Thanks, I have downloaded the very first one but realised it was published 2010, anyway, I am yet to explore it but I am sure it will be of great help. Also, as per the video CD you talked about, I hope it is free wink, if yes, I will be very glad to come and receive it, if not free, embarassed then . . kindly make it free wink. I have some here as well which I downloaded from the net, i will like to make sure I am not getting the same materials from you. Thanks

ever since blender evolved to 2.50 most tutorials will still be usable the newer versions just have higher and updated features, as a result, u can still use the 2010 document u have. how ever, depending on ur Internet access, I would recommend YouTube. u will find recent video tutorials on almost any topic

yeah, youtube is a great resource for learning blender. and you could also check out some tutorials for other softwares and apply thesame technique to blender.

Here is what I was able to achieve with a phone camera and blender. I will texture the plane later.

@Tos87, Before you invest in greater power, make sure you reach a point where you do NEED more processing power. Try using modifiers and optimize your scenes to make sure you only have what you need in a scene. Also, use the "Link" function to import objects from other scenes.

@Tos87, trust me, u can do without cloth simulation for now. there r many ways of cheating your way out. try studying the Captain Scarlet animated series; u will realize that no cloth simulation was used on any of the characters. their clothes are just meshes sharing the same armature with the character. if I were you, I would focus more on texturing to create folds on clothes. I'm using a 64 bit HP elite book workstation with 2gig nvidia quadro dedicated graphic card and 16gig ram, but yet I use cloth simulation only when it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Re: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Shimish: 7:18pm On Dec 03, 2013
here is what u do. in edit mode, select the faces u want, go to the material panel. make sure u r still in edit mode, click on the + sign on the right side of the material button. this adds another blank material channel. click on add new, select the material colour u want, then click on the assign button right under the material. when u do this, the selected faces inherit the new material.
I hope this helps.

@jjk24, yeah it will work with mirror modifier.
@ Tos87 sorry don't have any useful Info about the graphic card thing, cos my laptop came with it. I like your renders. maybe if u tell me exactly what u r trying to achieve with the cloth stuff, I could give u a few helpful tips.

I learned through tutorials and forums like this. but nothing beats trial and error. YouTube is a gold mine for tutorials. I use internet download manager to download videos from there. but most importantly, don't be a "tutorial zombie" try and figure out y certain steps were taken by branching off a bit to see the result. also check out blenderguru.com

At shimish- pls do you model your characters yourself? Considering when you started I guess you should by now. Am also learning rigging with a borrowed character hoping to animate it soon...I will be keeping you posted with my progress. I av some video tutorials am working with too and is helpful.
Re: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Nobody: 11:48am On Dec 04, 2013
theres a 3-episode tutorial on character rigging in blender. Check blendercookie. It explains a great way to go about character rigging. as for the animation, check disney's 13 principles of animation.
