That is the radiology resident's personal problem not the government's. Does the government pay for pilot's to better themselves. Your thinking is one of "entitlement" like a petulant teenager . How is a software engineer,Engineer, caterer supposed to get his training etc HIS PROBLEM !! to be paid for by HIM
what has the world turned to, when a doctor has to argue about his relevance...you cant compare a doctor to anybody, save God. medicine is as old as man, and even before white medicine, doctors were in service. who gives two fs about pilots. were the herbalists not regarded as doctors then, did anybody bother about pilots then. Anyway, pilot needs a doctor and so do you, so doctors win

I think doctors are often the last to realise they are not as important as they think they are.No one owes you anything. If you want anything you have to earn it.Why should the state fund your education.

omonnakoda: Typical arrogance of the ignorant and unexposed Nigerian doctor. Many people go to Hospital and have nothing to do with doctors; Immunization,Antenatal clinics,Physiotherapy,Speech Therapy,Psychology,Counselling,Occupational therapy the list goes on. Doctors are agitating for the government to pay for their training .Why should government do this ? Do they pay for training for pilots, engineers, accountant?,Bankers lawyers etc. Is there any obligation after the training for the doctors to serve the government ? The answer is a big NO!! The doctors in training NARD are paid salaries which together with on call allowances make them the highest paid government employees. They are the ones that should pay government for their training!!,
Obviously u don't understand wat the residency training is allabout...so go and read about it...during residency training...a doctor is employed nd he works actively..infact doing more work than is expected of him...nd he's just being paid for the services rendered...if there is no training...medical officers would stillbe employed..(Who are not in training..) Nd will be paid much more than d residents in training...meanwhile...doctors pay for exams...seminars courses...part 1 exam is 100k...so I ask u...do u think u not ignorant now...

It is now His personal problem to get trained. However, when he demands better facilities and even better pay, you start quoting the Hippocratic oath for him and you'll be the first to remind him that he is running a humanitarian organization.

B4 nko...who's's supposed to be the most paid...are they not the head of the team. my problem with doctors is that they very greedy and insensitive...now they want pple to supprport them for better training, despite the ones they have already,

Jealous that you are not a doc If they are better trained, it's for the benefit of the society at large, so say something else :p

...and point of correction, they aren't asking for you support, it's the FG's!

To all the resident Docs, use the break to chill out and read for your exams grin

You further expose your absolute ignorance on residency training programme with each post.
How will a radiology resident receive training on MRI spectroscopy or aspects of interventional radiology when no centre in Nigeria offers such?
How can he afford such a training without govt intervention?
When he completes his training how will he practise if such facilities are not available?
Yet people like you yell that govt officials squander our tax on receiving treatment abroad, but will NOT subscribe to funding for training of doctors?
That sounds like bigotry and witchcraft.
Another example.
A training in laparoscopic procedures may take months to years and in many cases are available only to institutions rather than individuals. Costs for individuals are often more expensive we are talking thousands of dollars.
Now, if i take a bank loan and get this training and take another bank loan and procure equipment to enable me practise. What i'll simply do is to cater for only clients who can afford the services because i have to pay back the loans. How will i have helped the common man? Don't you get it that when it come to training of doctors and facilities the govt just has to intervene. It is a global phenomenon.

There are different models in different countries.Government does not have to intervene particularly in a capitalist country where doctors can complete their training and elope. What return has Nigeria got on the 1000s of doctors it trained who are now in the US and UK
In the US Nurses earn MORE than interns, In Nigeria a House Officer earns more that a Matron and then you want government to pay for your training
You can take a loan to further your training

Now that you seem to be amenable to education let me inform you further.
Nigerian doctors you find in the UK, US are those who did their residency training programme there. Thus they owe the Nigerian govt no obligation whatsoever. In any case if they decide to return it is for humanitarian purposes as the govt cannot afford to pay them a quarter of their earnings in the US where they trained.
Remember i said that resident doctors who are sent for overseas training are often required to sign a bond and you called me a liar. Well here it comes up again.
If i take a loan to further my training wont i need to pay it back? Pls refer to my former post on why this is not the best option.

And their undergraduate training was paid for by the UK?No it was freein almost all cases and there are some who were sent on elective training as part of residency in the 90s who absconded so educate yourself not me. In fact one such person was an NARD official who kept his family in doctors accommodation for years pretending he was coming back and not paying for the house

Typical scenerio....UR grandma..(Make I use her cos she's old already) gets rushed to a southafrican hosp...after having a heart attack....Gbam she enters...gbam nusrse wheel am in...gbam she goes in for CT scan...gbam cosultants review nd feels she would benefit from clot removal from the heart...an interventional radiologist is called...comes in...uses CT guided scope with a cadiothoracic surgeon gets the clot out in max 15mins....2days afta granma is on her way home to see her grand kids...
Nigeria...Granma shows...Gbam nurse no dey to attend cos she's attending to another patient(buh they won't complaincos dey lick the govt butt)...no CTscan...no MRI....no interventional radiologist..(Like 2 or 3 in d whole naija)....so as mama dey enta...the poor Medical officer on duty go just ask...how old ( 87yrs)......"She don try naaa".....make we set line give normal saline..( For hin mind...mama dongo already...) Now I hope u know this can happen to a 40-50yr old..C. Rice in d US had a clot removed last year from her heart...if na naija...she's a gonner...a lot of our loved ones are still supposedto be alive today if the govt had invested more in infractstructure....well sha...I guesss onemight not be able to convince a lay man xcept he enta Px shoes small..deen u will cause our leaders with ur bossoms...orur manhood...

Undergraduate training was NOT paid by the govt.
Elective training (undergrad)IS NOT paid by the govt.
It is the individual that pays FULLY for this so NO obligation whatsoever is owed to the govt.
Get your facts right and stop spreading fallacy.

Please tell us who paid? When was tuition introduced in Nigerian Universities
Teaching hospitals paid for specific electives e.g radiotherapy and Neurosurgery, ophthalmology across Nigeria in the 80s and 90s.

Those who benefited from free education are the older profs and most are in the country training others.
I meant to say undergrad electives.
Even many residents sponsor themselves on electives.

I asked you when tuition was introduced and you are just dodging. You need to learn some humility and broaden your knowledge.Avoid arguing what you know nothing about
You are also dishonest changing your post which is expected from the Nigerian doctor of today

Even now that there are tuition fees it is SUBSIDIZED. How much were the fees at LASU before the recent increase
