What Is Your Perception Of Long Journey Bus Preachers? by doctorgold(m): 9:57am On Aug 14, 2013
And so it happened that i embarked on a journey from Lagos to Benin. As usual of Lagos parks, you have people who come around in the guise of preaching the gospel of christ and also praying for safe journey to your destination. As our bus was about leaving the Ojota park, the preacher joined the bus and started with prayers. Funny enough, he had preinformed us that it was going to be a 'service'. I was therefore not suprised when he started with prayers and then moved on to other activities such as praise and worship, prayer session, preaching, prayer again and then collection of offerings. These procedures took well over one hour to the extent that when we had gone past redemption camp, i was wondering if the man was going to Benin with us.
The last straw that broke the camel's back was when the preacher requested that we give offerings. Some people responded while some did not. The preacher went on to pray for people that did not give and was quick to add that stingy people will not make heaven. He also said that he wants to give a second chance to those who did not give in the first place.
To cut the story short, this continued until we had gone off lagos-Ibadan expressway and we were approaching Shagamu and an occupant of the bus had to announce that the preacher was disturbing him and he needed to concentrate on some other things. To drive home his point, he made us understand that he is a christian too while the preacher responded that the guy in question is not a child of God.
Now, to my side of the story, i need to point out that i am also a christian but such evangelism seems to me like an effort in futility or just an avenue for the preacher to make some few bucks. (I stand to be corrected though).
I am therefore seeking opinions of nairalanders, what do you think of these bus evangelists that follow you as far as shagamu and then ask you to pay offerings in order to support the gospel?
