America is far better than Nigeria whether you blind patriots believe it or not. Someone said one can suruiue with 500 naira per day... Are you joking?! Can that pay House rent plus transportation plus feeding plus medicals and no insurance cover? To compound the problem, many Nigerian men have redundant wives (liability) If you factor in all that, you will know that we are suffering in this country.

house a month in America costs about 1000 dollars a month
in Nigeria u will live in a good flat for 10000 a month

you see the difference
this is the kind of thing that makes people want to leave naija thinking its paradise in USA without planning what exactly they want to go and do or how they will live when they get there

Baybe: How can you compare Nigeria with USA? undecidedundecided

After paying taxes, you'd be left with nothing.
Lies, they would still be able to afford GOOD food on their table, GOOD roads, GOOD transportation services, GOOD health services, steady power supply. Why is there less poverty over there, cos everyone can manage him/herself. They get paid every 2 weeks too and on time. In naija your salary don finish while transporting yourself from home to work and vice versa..... In naija you can easily recognise a poor man, in America the gap isn't that wide.... America is FAR FAR better than Nigeria. Let's call a spade a spade.

Earn that in the US for 5yrs and compare yourself with someone here with Nigeria's minimum wage...you wouldn't need a mathematician to tell you that a it's not funny living on N18,000 in Nigeria!

Look for an ediot to give that advice. I know for a fact, that $10/hr in California is worst than N18,000 in Nigeria. We were all not born yesterday.

Who fvcking cares
I make as much as what people make in California per month yet spend far less as I dont have to spend bulk of my earning on tax, my rent per annum is $2000 and thats what people spend on rent monthly in California.

ayobase: The state of California's minimum wage of $10 (N1,500) per hour to start by 2016. It seems it is about $8 (N1,200)at the moment.

A US citizen that works 10 hrs daily for 20 days gets approximately N300,000 ($2,000) per month!

Nigeria's is N18,500 ($123) per month. Meaning N92 ($0.6) per hour pay.

Why won't people wanna run go greener pasture.

#Im just saying ni o#

can you see how dumb u can be?an average amount u pay for a rent of 3 bedroom flat here in nigeria is around 400k or 500k per year,to get that same kind of house at usa you will spend at least 800 dollars per month depending on the state,800 dollars which is more than 120000 naira monthly, and about 9600 dollars in a year which is about 1.5 million naira, you never calclulate the taxes u go pay ooo,and also some other expenses,na people like u go dey complain say ur family member wey dey usa dey very stingy not knowing and understanding how things work over-there,because you here 8 dollars per hour u just quickly start to dey convert am enter naira and start to dey happy.lol.na the value of the naira make u feel say the money too much, imagine if 1 dollars equals just 10 naira that means 8 dollars per hour for 10 hours will be 800 naira in a day and about 24000 naira per month,

America is a $16 trillion economy.
How in the world can anybody america to Nigeria?
Secondly, the cost of labour in america is ridiculously high, that's why many american jobs are being outsourced to china, india and many asian countries.
And it's going to get worse.!!
Thirdly, increasing cost of labour in a developing country like Nigeria would be very counter-productive.
We will only be scaring away much needed foreign investments.

When you look at it critically, its almost the same thing. Rent is peanuts in Nigeria. A self-contained room cost a little above N7000/month while its over N50000/month in the U.S. That is just one instance. Ask yourself why are some people running or planning to come back to Nigeria.

Most people in the USA may be making money but may nt have enough to send home esp wen u are doing this hour job.
the cost of living in usa is also quite expensive.
to have a haircut in the say in NY u pay $15 around N2400
to go to work my friend uses de train he pays $2.5 to go and $2.5 to return so $5 a day apart from local transportn to his house.
to activate a line say for unlimited local call,500mb data, unlimited text u will have to pay like $40 (N6400)monthly(Simple mobile)
unlike in nigeria where u can buy a sim N100 and pay for BB plan N1500 which like ($10)

For one to survive in america u may have to go school so as to make ur pay/hour go up
there equally loans u can get wen u finish school u start paying gradually.
also the schools there dont go on strike so wen u enta for a 4year course and u are studious
u would graduate in 4years time.

In the us, you pay bills upon bills...by the time you remove them all...I guess the margin is not as big as it seems anymore. Though bigger than that of 9ja, alright.

comparing America with Nigeria is nothing to worry about...yeah, people find their way and make it the but remember say no work - no pay. And every bit of what u use in america, whether you buy it by and for yourself or its a governmet property, each of them carries a bill on them.... Think well, strategize properly and you shall prosper where ever you are.

They use the taxes gotten from rich men to take care of the poor.

That's why I envy them other than that, the cost of living over there is ridiculously high

The minimum wage in california state is not $10 but $8 per hour so thats like $1100 per month before taxes. The average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in a month is $1200 so after paying your rent you are left with nothing for food and other expenses like utilities and bills.

I could remember when my friend in new-york told me that there was a time he left his hair without barbing it because he felt is too expensive, imagine going to the salon to get your hair-cut and you are paying 10 to 15 dollars which is about 1500-2500 just to cut ur hair, but when he was still here in naija the highest he pays is 250 naira, infact na 250 naira na by force self,I laugh die when him dey tell me,here in naija u go enter tantalizer spend not even up to 2000 naira eat very delicious meal infact e go be like say make u no shit again but over-there that 2000 naira which is just around 12 dollars is not so special if you eat with it,some people for there dey even spend times three of it daily for feeding so what are we now talking about, the truth is life over there may be easy than life in nigeria but the fact is america is not an atm machine that some people has believed it to be.am not saying that going to america is not good but what am saying is that do not think you will just go there and within two years u are expecting to make millions of dollars and come back to naija to become a billionaire,am saying this so that when you finally get there you will not say that is someone from ur village that is not letting u to become a rich person ooo
GOD bless nigeria and GOD bless america too

After all said and done, some of us still manage to save close to $800 per month even while receiving $10/hr (your so called minimum wage). I wonder if some of you who claim to be living good over there can afford to save that at the end of the month. Anyway, continue leaving in 9ja because we ain't complaning here.

The minimum wage is used to protect the unskilled or semi skilled labor, pay earned by skill and educated labor is way higher than this. You did not take this into acct, and there are houses for minimum wage earners, just as for the rich... get your facts straight.

Well People need to realize this comparison though somewhat unfair relates to the minimum.

A man on minimum wage in the USA lives waaaaaaaaaay (for emphasis) better than a man on minimum wage in Nigeria.

No question about it.

NO. They are both the same. I guess you didn't watch on CNN when fast food workers in New York and other cities PROTESTED for an increase in the minimum wage. Nobody should be payed a MINIMUM wage salary but a LIVABLE wage salary.
