Look for an ediot to give that advice. I know for a fact, that $10/hr in California is worst than N18,000 in Nigeria. We were all not born yesterday.

How is it worse sir?
Re: USA Minimum Wage Vs Nigeria Minimum Wage. by Nobody: 12:18pm On Sep 15, 2013
To me there is no reason for this comparism, because we are talking of a govt that works, and a system that works too. In Nigeria the opposite is the case, we don't have a functional system, we don't pay tax except if you are on a steady salary scale, most naija citizens are not patriotic, if we had all these things in place nobody go wan leave naija.
Re: USA Minimum Wage Vs Nigeria Minimum Wage. by haibe(m): 12:18pm On Sep 15, 2013
The purchasing power of the currency in repect to the goods sold and services rendered matters in each countries.

Its possible the cost of bottle water which you buy for 50 naira here in naija is 200 naira(in ponds) there, so the cost of living matters too, not just the standard of living.
Re: USA Minimum Wage Vs Nigeria Minimum Wage. by Nobody: 12:19pm On Sep 15, 2013
There's no basis for comparison.

Weed heads would smoke that $2000 in a month and chain smokers would spend half of that on just cancer sticks alone.

The only thing cheap in the west is food, everything else is expensive.

Whoever lives on minimum wage has to be the most miserable mofo alive. I'd rather sleep in my house than work a minimum wage job.

End time tingz! undecided tongue

That is a naive way of looking at things. You have to consider what you can buy for $10 in the US in the first instance. Then realise that Naira is the local currency here and dollar in the US.
You also have to factor local conditions such as cost of travel, accommodation, heating etc. You may also want to consider that if a ragged one bed flat costs $1000 per month in the US, it won't necessarilly be translated as 1000x180= N180,000 which is not the true reflective cost of accommodation in Nigeria. You are more likely to translate this as $1000=N1000 or there about.

That you want to get to the the'promised lands'. Think a million times. It is not everyone who wins the big lottery. Your chance of succeeding in the 'promised land' is probably the same as winning the lottery. Look at these chances:

The Jackpot - 6 Numbers (Typical prize: £2 million)
6 numbers are drawn at random from the set of integers between 1 and 49, which means there are 49!/(6!*(49-6)!) combinations of numbers (the draw order doesn't matter). The means that the jackpot chance is 1 in 13,983,816 or approximately 1 in 14 million.
5 Numbers + Bonus Number (Typical prize: £100,000)
You are still matching 6 numbers from the 1 to 49 set as above, but you can now do it in 6 different ways (by dropping each of the main numbers in turn), therefore the chance is 1 in 13,983,816/6, which works out as 1 in 2,330,636.
5 Numbers (Typical prize: £1,500)
This is 42 times more likely than getting 5 numbers + the bonus number because, after the first six balls are drawn, there are 43 balls left and you can match 42 of these 43 balls without matching the bonus number. Therefore the chance is 1 in 2,330,636/42, which evaluates to 1 in 55,491.33333.

I will suggest that you think positively in Nigeria to become what you want to be. If you want to travel to the 'promised lands', how much conservatively would it cost? N500,000 to N1,000, 000? If you had this kind of money, what might you be able to do with it in Nigeria starting a business? Some believe that by sacrificing and even mortgaging their parents' property and future for an uncertainty is the best. I believe some of our readers here will agree with me that 500,00 to 1,000,000 Naira is enough capital to start a business. With the right planning and focus, it will become big. But we all want to start BIG! Please do not hammer me with abuses. I am only expressing my view as positively as I can. God Bless Nigeria.

If you pay 10,000naira a month in your flat that means you live in a slum like makoko, ajegunle or you are living in a remote area, oga USA economy is better, they are the #1 World economy, let that stick into ur skull.
a very nice flat at lekki is about 50000 to 70000 naira per month and if it is in usa u will pay nothing less than 900 dollars which is almost double the price, and if you now add the other taxes and co do you know much that will be per month?so before you spit on the thread think with ur brain and not with ur ass

The minimum wage is used to protect the unskilled or semi skilled labor, pay earned by skill and educated labor is way higher than this. You did not take this into acct, and there are houses for minimum wage earners, just as for the rich... get your facts straight.
bro, The least you can rent a 1 bed room apartment house in LA area and SF bay area is $1100. The rich areas or neighborhoods are very expensive and can reach up to $2000 per month for 1 bed room apartment.

I wonder if some of you who claim to be living good over there can afford to save that at the end of the month. Anyway, continue leaving in 9ja because we ain't complaning here.

Pls do your statistics well, ask of the cost of a 2bed flat in surulere & give us a feedback, its like you are staying in a face me I slap you, where you pay 10,000naira a month for room & parlour, that means you live in a slum like I said, cos in major lagos city you get a 2bed-flat for 350k per annum so do your mathematics well.

You must be joking. The cheapest room self contain in Lekki would be 700k per annum. Flats go for between 2m to 5m per annum and that's like 200k per month.

ayobase: The state of California's minimum wage of $10 (N1,500) per hour to start by 2016. It seems it is about $8 (N1,200)at the moment.

A US citizen that works 10 hrs daily for 20 days gets approximately N300,000 ($2,000) per month!

Nigeria's is N18,500 ($123) per month. Meaning N92 ($0.6) per hour pay.

Why won't people wanna run go greener pasture.

8 hours work in a day, not 10 so your Yankee wage is inflated by 25%. Should be N225k. That's not even equivalent to £1000 which even the poorest in London won't survive on.

Take away tax and cost of living, your Californian friend dey suffer wella.

Arsenate: If you are honest with yourself, you would know that one can live on 500naira (about 3 dollars) per day (15000 naira per month) in almost all Nigerian towns. I strongly doubt if one can survive with 3 dollars per day in the most American cities.
Not that I'm saying we can't do better but your thread reeks of insincerity.
does your 500 naira include transport and housing?..... transport in lagos sef is 1500 per day

between 50k -to 70k per month means you will be paying minimum of 600k yearly to get the flat which is triple of what you pay for at ikotun, simply because of it is lekki nah

That's why it is increasingly important that we become business owners so we can 1. Generate more revenue 2. Hire and pay staffs even more.

Federal Government has been investing heavily on SME's funding. Find a program and apply for it. Check www.youwin.com apply to win #10million or google about SME's investing in Nigeria. Also google RegCharles too, they give loans nd help in training young entrepreneurs.

Thanks. Please also visit www.iamaslucker.com that's my website.

Allohrandy: NO. They are both the same. I guess you didn't watch on CNN when fast food workers in New York and other cities PROTESTED for an increase in the minimum wage. Nobody should be payed a MINIMUM wage salary but a LIVABLE wage salary.

Sorry, but it appears you do not understand.

In Nigeria it's N18,000 ($112) a month.

In Cali it's $8.00/hr. Doing 40 hr/ wk is $320. Take home ($210) thereabouts.

Approx $1000 a month for the minimum earner in the US.

He doesn't live fly but he is the equivalent of man on N40,000 -N50,000 in Nigeria.

What kind of accommodation can a man on minimum such wage afford?

Trust me if you are in Lagos for instance that means squatting or under some bridge.

The quality of life of one to the other is incomparable.

Of course one can for the sake of argument choose to be blind to realities.

Rather be on minimum wage in the USA than Nigeria .

Rather not be on minimum wage at all (anywhere in the world).
