experts:

hey guys,

d question as to why the school took 10 months to before writing its exam is as follows

we have over 50 study centers  in Nigeria, and i believe that when one center is writing exam, d others should be writing too,

but that has been the major problem.  some of the study centers are very slow and it affect d entire school operation.

According to the VC we have been facing a lot of problems concerning how we should be conducting our exams, some study centers always have one problem or d other and it affect d entire school,

if u guys remember, d exam was originally scheduled for last year aug/sep but was later canceled,  although we d returning students took the exams aug/sep but d freshers didn't,

when d exam datewas fixed, we expect all study centers to be ready, but some centers were not and d exam have to be canceled,

nw d exam date has been fixed again and believe me only 4 center are ready,  d others are not,  but The VC has concluded that there wont be uniform exams again since its delaying d students,  any center that is ready will be allowed to conduct it own exam at its convenience,  d next week are exam is going to take place in only 4 study centers,

I do not like this Nigerian thing. Slugguishness at other centers affects few others who want to run faster and working harder for it. I hate this and I hope my immigration status gets confirmed soon to leave this rubbish. How come they are all fast to collect money? I have submitted my TMAs since Nov 30, paid exams fees and prepared for the exams and up till now- nothing. Only Id-Card-data capturing was started last Wed. I hate this poo.

So the VC and others did not think about this? The same thing in Nigeria, some quarters are pulling fast-moving ones down. President is dead and we are being told he is alive. And we are moving without a president while the Vice is there, hale and healthy.

Is Jos center among the ready centers? I saw some people last Wednesday who are yet to pay for some fees, but it is always the case. Not every student will comply but timetable and events must be respected by the school.

i will get as much information to pass to fellow nairalanders by tuesday after discussing with her.

and after that i will decide if i should buy the form or not.

Please fellow Nairalanders, My problem with NOUN is their Course Materials. How do I get Course Materials. Their digital online courseware website is incomplete and does not contain all courses. With exams fast approaching, it is absurd that students still do not have materials to read and you are quite aware that they are no lectures also. It is quite confusing. Any help?

If you can't get course materials from your study centre. Then you have to make your own notes by searching online for info using the course outline as a guide, the tma will also guide you. That's what I am doing.

@ noun prospective students, once you fill the admission form, and you are found eligible; you will see a congratulatory message immediately. if you like, you may print your admission letter and proceed for registration. But if registration of courses for that semester has ended; you may now wait till after the exams.

At Jos Study Center, we volunteered in electrical and networking divisions to see us going. I have done 8 out of 12 courses. which Center is yours? It's crazy but all is in Nigeria. Factor that in!

Hello all in the house,

I want to first thank everyone who has dropped one piece of information or the other. Like some said, we just have to give a project like this a trial but not at the expense of our future.
I wouldn't think of NOUN as an institution to bag my first degree because it could be time wasting and non-practical at times but should be okay for PG programmes.
We all know how generally the Nigerian educational system has being in the past. I think this NOUN project is also a product of dilapidated educational system. Therefore, it may improve as the general educational system improves.

I noticed that no one want to mention anything relating to tuition fee despite being asked by many people in this thread.
I believe if anyone has idea, it going to help those at the verge of taking a step to make a wise decision.

Just as i am writing now, I intent to go for masters in NOUN but need to consider first what the tuition fee would be like though i got a hold on the payment schedule through their website where all payment for a PG programme except tuition fee runs to around N22,500.

They also quote N10,000 as result verification fee which i don't think we need to worry ourselves about now.

Since i did not see anything like tuition fee there, I could not conclude that is all i have to pay upon gaining admission.

Conclusively, I want to implore whoever has idea (just rough estimate) how much their tuition fee can be to kindly keep us informed and we that are in need of this vital information would surely appreciate it.

Thank you all.
Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by Holyrule(m): 8:49pm On Jan 06, 2012
Tuition fee is 22,500 plus, Speakin δƒ estimates one needs to get hold δƒ about 40k plus cuz δƒ course registrations, Returnin students pay 15k as tuition fee minus †̥ђe̶̲̥̅ course registration costs inclusive, So i̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̥̅̊ conclusion to questions, Freshers shud have about 40k plus to gwt started wif wverythin necessary fot admission and course registration for first semester. Thanks
