These are some of the reasons Tecno may not be able to last long in Nigeria, it's long, but it will make for an interesting reading.

1. One thing that dictates market trends all over the world is the taste of the consumers. As we all know, taste for various goods and services change over time as new trends emerge. One of such changing trends in the world of technology brought Tecno into the game. They were able to carve out a niche for themselves and become a dominant force in the smartphone business as far as Africa (which is its primary base) is concerned. They offered what more established players in the market offered, but for less. A high-end, powerful Android phone that would normally cost you around US$650 now became available for half that price, thanks to Tecno. In the process they was able to dislodge some established companies from some sections of the market, particularly one-time favourites, Blackberry. People embraced the new trend. They saw the prospects of owning such powerful gadgets that come at relatively no cost as exciting and attractive. There is no guarantee that things will remain that way, though. Other companies may introduce their own trends. Apple may establish a subdivision that will focus on the budget smartphone niche and target the low-income earners in Africa, while Samsung may look to expand their already-successful budget smartphone section into Africa. If any of those things happen, it will inevitably be the end of the road for Tecno, unless they counter it with their own innovative ideas which I believe they would.

2. The major low point for Tecno in Nigeria when it comes to branding has so far been the fact that they have not been able to shake off their “Chinese” tag. People in this part of the world usually associate Chinese-made products (especially phones) with inferiority. They are seen as lesser-quality alternatives to superior Western, Japanese and South Korean products which people rush to because of their relative pocket-friendliness. Many Tecno users here feel embarrassed whenever their phones are referred to as “China Phones”, making them appear inferior. I think the Tecno guys should work towards re-branding the company and convince us that their phones are more than just any other Chinese phone.

3. The Tecno brand has recently earned itself a catchphrase that it will not be too proud of, “One Day, One Tecno”. Just like Blackberry before it, the smartphone makers have formed the habit of treating us with one new release after the other, almost on a daily basis. What this simply means is that they are recycling the same set of phones over and over again, whilst adding and subtracting some negligible features here and there. They have failed to learn from one of the things that caused the downfall of Blackberry and (more crucially) they’ve failed to take a cue from what makes Apple and Samsung thick. While Blackberry was busy flooding the market with “brand-new” smartphones that were more or less the same in an aggressive sales campaign, Apple and Samsung were busy investing their time and resources in trying to come up with cutting edge, state-of-the-art smartphones with unbelievable features that will take humanity to the next level. Each time Samsung or Apple releases a new phone into the market, it generates media buzz and tidal waves comparable to a tsunami, but when Tecno releases one of its low-end products, it barely makes the news. My advice in this aspect is that Tecno should, as a matter of urgency, create a flagship product similar to Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy that will boast of highly innovative state-of-the-art functionalities that will get the worldwide media talking about them and give Apple and Samsung a run for their money. This will also create another niche for them, one that will cater for more moneyed customers within and outside Africa and the Middle East.

Tecno has good phones, yes, no doubt. But if you go to the market and see 2 phones, one from Tecno and one from Apple, with the same features and everything, and the same price, which one are you going to buy? I bet 90% of you will go for the Apple phone. This is what numbers 1 and 2 on the list are saying.

And I'm not beefing Tecno in any way. I love you guys kiss

Well Tecno is attracting more attention and getting more popular on a daily basis.

Anyway, Nigeria is a big market for phones & accessories, the only thing that can make Tecno less relevant is competition, as you all know there is no champion forever.

Tecno should however look into the criticisms they've been receiving so far, and make some adjustments. They've flooded the market enuf, so they should take a chill pill.

They should also take off some existing products off the market and let the new ones flourish.

Dumbass so Apple started making budget phones cos of Tecno right?
FYI A 32 Gb Iphone 5C costs the same as a 16 Gb Iphone 5S & all variants of the budget Iphone 5C costs above #110k in Nigeria. Apple doesn't even consider Tecno as a phone maker talkless of a rival. Tecno in the market doesn't affect worldwide sales of Apple.

OP, I don't believe you.
Even before tecno started the production of Android devices, the only popular chinko phone to Nigerians is tecno, to the extent that with its dual, and triple SIM feature , it took the place of Nokia torch. people preferred buying a phone with multiple SIM, radio without earphones, loud music player and TV.

Now they have ventured into Android and their Android phones are above average, cheap, strong and always up to date and most Nigerians accepted it wholeheartedly. Now tell me why it will not last here.

RemembER the original small Japanese generator was sold at 45k, then China brought us the same generator at as low as 11k, are we not still using it now despite the fact that it's called "I pass my neighbour"?

U said one day, one tecno, do you know how many models of galaxy brand of Samsung that are in the market now?

Chinko or whatever, Tecno has come to stay.

I use Samsung Galaxy Note and Nokia Lumia 920, I found out that as a smartphone, windows is not smart enough, I sold the Lumia and bought tecno phantom A+. I travel with the tecno alone because of the battery strength.

Again, Tecno has come to stay.

Bro the Nokia java phones still outsold the Tecno ones by far.

You can't compare an 11k 0.8 KVA Tiger generator with a 45k 2.2 KVA generator. I'm sure you yourself know how wide the difference is.

You never mentioned how your Samsung Galaxy Note performed in relation to your Phantom.

All the same Tecno is a cool budget phone which I've recommended to many. I'm even buying one for someone soon but if that person had more to spare, I'll get him a Samsung Galaxy instead.

The question is this
do they manufacture this fones in nigeria as they made people belief ?
do they listen to their customers ?
if it is for nigeria truly and africa, why is it difficult for them to aligh their specifications to suite us?

Can someone here mention any innovative or outstanding feature in Tecno's Phantom? E.g. Apple's Iphone 5s has the fingerprint-based TouchID that allows you to lock your phone with your own fingerprint instead of a password or a code. That's what point number 3 is talking about. Tecno needs to be more innovative and come up with their own bright ideas and also develop a future-packed flagship product similar to what Samsung nd Apple have done with their Galaxy and Iphone. Nokia is even trying it out with Lumia, Tecno should also give it a shot.

See ehn......if tecno pack every every put for one phone you think you will see that phone at 50k or 45k?.....you think say them no get sense?...ok wait......check this out...tecno brings out a phone with 3G,4G, 32gb, 2gb Ram, Snapdragon 800 chip, Amoled screen, Aluminium body.....and you expect that phone to be 45k?......they price their phone according to the cost of production...Tecno is for the Low-end users.

The Apple "low-end" you are mentioning you know how much for market? 120k for iphone 5C......
