I ran across a christian cult called Heaven Gate yesterday. The group was founded by Marshall Applewhite on christian theological doctrines which encompass bible and belief in God, apocalypse (end time) and heaven. As with some other New Age faiths they combined Christian doctrine (particularly the ideas of salvation and apocalypse) with the concept of evolutionary advancement and elements of science fiction, particularly travel to other worlds and dimensions.

March 26, 1997 brought the grizzly discovery that 39 members of the Heaven's Gate cult had committed mass suicide. It was reported by Dailymail that those that committed this suicide believe that the Hale-Bopp comet was a sign they should leave Earth.

Considering particularly the situation in Africa and the state of Nigeria especially......suffering, corruption, disease, death, insecurity, unemployment, starvation, natural disasters, political and economical instabilities are increasing with days. Disagreement, hatred, conflict and killing among brothers, families, commuties, town, nations are common as prophecised by the bible. Christian especially tag this as the sign of the end time as stated by their scripture. Pastors and ministers are preparing some through published books, sermon and media for the coming heaven which is going to put an end to this calamities and open door for goodness, peace and world which person wont strive anymore. They are spreading the good news that death, poverty, suffering, corrupt government and disagreement will end only in heaven and those that make it will enjoy these till eternity.

Christians on the other way have been waiting for this rapture few years back, unfortunately it never come. Some said it coming in the 80s, some said 90s, some pinned it to 2012 and Obadiah777 evaluated that at some months ago the end will come. Since christians still live with the atrocities on planet earth....their prayers failed as cant change anything....they are still bend to go to heaven and see earth doom with the evil in it.

The truth be told....according to Yoruba spirituality....there is rebirth of consciousness.

Abiku (return of little babies) and Asehinwaye (return of old person) is believed to be return of those that die biologically but returning spiritually (same consciousness). So i couldn't run anywhere. When I rush out, i will rush in. Thats the cycle.

I'm not even sure if they're clear on how the system works. Do they wait till the day of judgement first, or is it immediately after they die? Committing suicide is not the answer for Christians. Everybody dies and sooner or later they will also die, there is no point in hastening your death. Enjoy life, live it to the fullest for the earth isn't ruled by satan, it is ruled by man and we alone hold the key to ending our suffering(s).

That might have been better. But it would be wrong to think that Christians are not eager to leave this world, I've personally met a few that are quite willing to die to meet up with their maker (not by committing suicide though).
