Get informed on how your pharmacist can help you. Pharmacists are medication experts.Do you suffer from a chronic condition such as asthma, arthritis, or diabetes etc? Your pharmacist can work with you and your doctor to make sure you choose the best medications to look after your health.

Studies have shown that half of all Nigerians do not take their prescription medications exactly as prescribed. Every year thousands of people are admitted into hospitals because they did not follow the instructions on their medication container.
Do not leave the pharmacy or hospital until you fully understand how to use your medication properly.

Not sure what to ask your pharmacist? Here is a list of questions you can consider:
Why am I taking this medication?
How and when should I take this medication?
Is "four times a day" the same as "every six hours"?
Do I have to wake up during the night to take my medication?
Am I supposed to swallow my medicine with food or water?
Is there anything I should or should not eat or drink while I am taking this medication?
What should I do if I miss my dose, or take two doses close together?
How will I know if this medication is working?
How will I remember to take my medicine?
I have allergies - is it safe for me to take this medication?
Are there any side effects I should watch for? Will it make me sleepy?
Will my medication interact with other drugs?
Can I drink alcohol while I am taking this medication?
Will it be affected by over-the-counter medications like painkillers or antacids?
Will it be affected by vitamins or herbal supplements?
Can I take this medication if I am pregnant or breast-feeding?
When will I feel better?
If I feel better can I stop taking it?
When should I see my doctor?
Can I get my medication in a container that is easier to open?
Where should I keep my medication?

It may or may nt be the drug. Dexamethasone as a steroid fondly called xasten or yodi has been abused which has the side effects oedema and may later result in pain,it will be advisable not to stop the drug abruptly as dia maybe withdrawal symptoms, reduce the dose of the drug to 1tab daily for 7days and discontinue. Then avoid the following: taking cold food or drinks, exposure to fan or AC, bathing with cold water, sleeping on d rug or a room that has rug etc. All these can trigger attack as allergens. Put on socks always, get clothes that can warm up your body since we re in d raining season then later if you must use drugs, take 4mg of salbutamol n 1tab of aminophyline @ bedtime as d levels of cortisols fall @ nite n may trigger asthma, with time u won't see urself as an asthmatic patient. Cheers

Itching in the mouth may be as a result of your mast cells not stabilizing well, looking @ d season against what can cause,it is either you have been taking something more often that is close with the season,eg dry corn, full or whole grains or u are take some medications that has the side effect of oral thrush,my candid opinion for u is to feed regularly on fruits and vegetables and be on the look out what causes. As to the malaria, did u run a test, what is the result like +,++ or +++.this will give a clue, also run typhoid test and a full blood count, your white blood cells might be too slow to soldier foreign bodies .Cheers

I was prescribed Erythromycin and Retin-A for my pimples by a dermatologist. I decided not to use the Retin-A cos of it's harsh side effects and I'm using only the antibiotic. After 3 days of using it, i developed severe cough, stomach pain and my chest(exactly below my breasts) now hurts. I'm confused....... Please help

How did u use the Erythromycin? At higher dose, you may have side effects, Erythromycin for that pimples should be 1tab 8hourly, asides that check the Retin A, probably it may have expired or not the genuine one, if all this has been ruled out, you may have see the dermatologist or see a specialist to really know what type of acne you have, it maybe under acne or systemically compromised acne. But my advise for you till you see your dermatologist, make a paste of salicylic acid apply on the spots 3ce daily.

I take the Erythromycin twice a day, morning and night. It's 500mg and my next appointment with the doctor is in 4wks time. He said it is hormonal acne. Thanks for the advice

Nice one, Pharm.
I have this on and off pain in my tummy, the lower left side. The pain will build up gradually and becomes very severe only for it to disappear after a few minutes. Afterwards, I have to pee.
The attacks are not frequent, maybe once every month, but when they come it is extremely painful.
What could be the cause?
Is there any drug I can use?

Hello Dear,

What is the best way to maintain an elderly person's health?

My Father (above 70) always has severe Cough crisis. He has never smoked cigarret in life. Stopped drinking beers over 20yrs ago.

He is still healthy but just the cough crisis. All tests were carried out (sputum, urine, blood, etc) but nothing discovered to be the cause. I just make drugs availblle for him as maintainance.

But pls what way (drugs) to better maintain such case?

Thanks

NO, not all mosquito bites will result in malaria until there are symptom of malaria there is no need for treatment.
To avoid the mosquito bites, get a mosquito net but if the net is not comfortable, you can use mosquito repellant cream or paludrine one tab daily. Cheers

ulcer describes an open sore anywhere along the digestive tract, but most commonly in the upper portion of the small intestine. Although some ulcers result from stress and diet, more than half occur as a result of an infection with a bacteria known as H. pylori, No specific ulcer diet exists, but eating certain types of foods can contribute to an increase in stomach acid and irritate the ulcer while others can promote a healthy digestive system.
For the yellow urine and mouth taste, take more fluid and to treat the ulcer you can take pylorest 3tab twice daily. Cheers

Low sperm count may be normal, that the sperm count is slow doesn't mean u can't impregnate but the percentage of the sperm that is sluggish, motile or immotile will give us pointer. The analysis if there's any contamination in the sperm cell like E. Coli etc will make us figure it out. Cheers

TRADELYN: Dear zeezahbee,

Please what's your view about Intimate Wash?
most intimate wash (douching) if not all has a high pH and it can upset the natural balance of your most intimate area.
Douching is a type of female cleansing done to wash the vaginal canal. Feminine washes used in the douching process come pre-mixed over-the-counter and typically contain a mixture of vinegar, water, baking soda and iodine. If you decide to use a feminine wash, you should review the short-term and long-term effects.
Most doctors recommend it for vaginal infection treatment(note: in most cases, douching actually creates more problems than benefits due to the effects it has on the acidity of the vagina.
Although you may think that you are washing infection-causing bacteria out of the vagina, you are actually also getting rid of the good bacteria that keeps the area free from infections. So beware

Don't you think that most people might not know how to use it well? It is meant to clean up the external region ONLY. Would you recommend it to a love one if you find an effective one? Have you personally used any before? Please share your experience; and those of others that you have come across. It still baffles me why many do welcome it in Nigeria!
