hi, queenet. I didn't succumb but anytime I post anything I get a BAN for days and the BAN wont just be on the health thread but I will be BAN from posting in other thread. I am useful to people on the US student thread and to avoid getting a ban on the health thread, I decided to stop quoting or replying posts here. I pray they don't take this down grin

ask your friend to go for a comprehensive test and from the test we will know which drug she is resistant or ++. so from there we can know which drug she will use.

niggi4life: Hello DOC in the house,
I went for a checkup yesterday to check my bp and it was 181, the doc there told me it was on the very high side considering my age(32), i used to be a heavy smoker and drinker before but i have totally gave the smoking up(about 3months now) and drink once in a week.
I do walk for about 15mins daily, i am 5feet10 and weigh about 90kg. What else would i need to do to ensure my bp is totally normal?
Please kindly help a brother
Thanks

zeezahbee: sorry am just seeing this
It's a semen analysis
Though it's on the edge of abnormalities
Mildly abnormal
Probably due to infection
Cos the culture result yielded staph aureus
And it's show it's sensitivity with the result
You will have to be place on rocephin 1g BD for 7 days with genticin 160mg start and den 80mg BD for 4 days. Kindly see a doctor asap
i dont think this is right, the man needs a urologist, this is seminal fluid analysis result is poor and i doubt he has any staph infection unless he is severely immunosuppressed. it must be a contaminant from skin during collection. he may have a varicocoele or other cause of infertility. he may even need assisted reproduction like ivf etc... rocephin, genticin wouldnt help him and would promote resistance to these drugs and other side effects. staph doesnt commonly cause prostatitis which is a major cause of infertility, this result just cultured contaminants.
quinolones are used to treat prostatitis.
i'm not against what you're doing but i think there are a thousand scenarios to these results, he needs proper evaluation. also dont believe all the lab results you see... imagine that he has this result and his family is complete, is it still useful to offer treatment? no i guess

despite not having the test, i think you can safely go ahead and prescribe on this one, there are standard recommendations for starting treatment for STIs unlike some urinary tract infections. currently, there's resistance building to the quinolones that gonococci were sensitive to... the current consensus is to use IM or oral 3rd generation cephalosporins + doxycline to cover for the usual accompanying STI organisms like chlamydia. wink
let her also tell her friend to get used to using protection angry

please see a urologist... you may have a surgically or hormonally correctable problem and i'm sure you're looking for a baby. those drugs you are taking are just supplements. just an advice though, you can take it or leave.

i wasn't on the offensive, read my text again, was just being frank, just having a say because i've seen several people take a long route to do the right thing for themselves.I just felt a drug focused solution wasn't the best, didn't say she was completely wrong but there are several causes of infertility, and a current or previous infection is just one of them which is unlikely due to any staph. organism. basing your treatment on that lab result will lead to treating the wrong problem... the guy may even also be seeing the wrong doctor hence the recommendation of a urologist.

My sister, don't go near that drug oo. The weight gain that comes with xasten is a side effects(gnaecomastia). This comes with other side effect such as: 1. Diabetes: The stimulation of the adrenal gland by exogenous agonists like xasten brings about more glucose breakdown and sadly receptor recognition to fail. It's this excess glucose that is converted to fat in the liver and is stored in specific areas as adipose tissue. 2. Cushing's syndrome 3. Osteoporosis.

You can make do with some appetite stimulants with ur multivitamins and GOOD food. Moreover, sudden weight loss might be pathological, so you need to see a qualified medical doctor. My 2 kobo pere.

Coupled with my last post. Dexamethasone comes with withdrawal symptoms that isn't funny. You want to discard it slowly and not abruptly if you've started using it.

There are a number of antacids you may pick from to combat acid reflux. Gaviscon is good for me. Or any other antacid liquid you can afford. Danacid tablet is also good and cheap, you can chew it prn. You need to be more specific about the spot.

Let me be frank with you, if you've used all this drugs and it didn't ameliorate your weight loss, then you need to see your doctor asap.. You also need to mention any other symptoms you may have. Unexplained weight loss is linked to diabetes, HIV, cancer or a malabsorption problem. Early detection leads to the fastest cure rates.. Cheers.
