DEVA1: Who remembers hymn 444? All things bright and beautiful

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flow’r that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

The purple-headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather every day.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

Tell It to Jesus

1 Are you weary, are you heavyhearted?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Chorus:
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that's well-known;
You've no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.
2 Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Have you sins that to men's eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]
3 Do you fear the gath'ring clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]
4 Are you troubled at the thought of dying?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
For Christ's coming kingdom are you sighing?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

In Christ alone my hope is
found,
He is my light, my strength,
my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid
Ground,
Firm through the fiercest
drought and storm.
What heights of love, what
depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when
strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I
stand.
In Christ alone! - who took on
flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless
babe.
This gift of love and
righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came
to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus
died,
The wrath of God was
satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I
live.
There in the ground His body
lay,
Light of the world by darkness
slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious
day
Up from the grave He rose
again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on
me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious
blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in
death,
This is the power of Christ in
me;
From life's first cry to final
breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme
of man,
Can ever pluck me from His
hand:
Till He returns or calls me
home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll
stand.

onuwaje: Any song by jim reeves

Jim Reeves was actually a country-western musician, but he did record a popular album of hymms and gospel standards.(We thank thee).

''Across the Bridge'' is one of my favourites as is ''I'll fly away.''

Abide with Me

Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) was an Anglican clergyman who served nearly half his life as vicar of a church at Brixham, a fishing village in Devonshire, on the southwest coast of England (he died at the age of 54, and served that congregation for 24 years).

During the last years of his life, Lyte suffered from tuberculosis, the disease that would eventually take his life. A few weeks before his death, he preached his last sermon at Brixham. He rested that afternoon, and upon arising took a walk on the beach. He then retired to his study, and emerged with his poem, "Abide with Me," in his hand.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see—
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness;
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;
Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

The poem is lovely in both language and sentiment –– but it seems odd that a hymn about death could become as popular as this one. But on closer observation, the reason seems clear. This hymn speaks to us, not only about death, but also about life. It assures us of God's presence and help in life and in death. As it says in the last line of the last verse: "In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me."

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

CHORUS

I love Him far better than in days of yoreI'll serve Him more truly than ever before,I'll do as He bids me, whatever the cost,I'll be a true soldier, I'll die at my post.

I Need Thee Every Hour

"I need Thee ev'ry hour, most gracious Lord." Annie Hawks was busy about her household chores one day when she started thinking about how much she depended on the Lord to help her through the day. Inspired, she took pencil and paper and began to write. The words came quickly and easily. She never imagined that her hasty verse would mean anything to anyone.

But then her pastor, Dr. Robert Lowry set her verse to music (and added the refrain: "I need Thee, O I need Thee"wink -- and then the famous evangelist Dwight L. Moody and his song leader, Ira Sankey, discovered the song -- and then the song itself became famous, much to Mrs. Hawk's surprise.

The need that Mrs. Hawks felt for God is a need that all of us feel at some time in our lives. Her little verse expressed the deepest feelings of her heart -- and of our hearts as well. That is why this hymn has been a favorite for more than a century.

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

Refrain:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.

When all your mercies, O my God
Author: Joseph Addison

When all Thy mercies, O my God,My rising soul surveys,Transported with the view, Im lost in wonder, love and praise.

Thy Providence my life sustained,And all my wants redressed,While in the silent womb I lay,And hung upon the breast.

The winds and the waves
shall obey my will, peace be still.
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea
or demons, or men, or whatever it be.
No water can swallow the ship where lies
the Master of ocean and earth and skies;
they shall sweetly obey my will,
peace be still, peace be still.
They all shall sweetly obey my will;
peace, peace be still.

Christian seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious saviour say
Thou art in the midst of foes
Watch and pray

principalities and powers
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for thy unguarded hours
Watch and pray

Gird thy heavenly armor on
Wear it ever night and day
Ambushed lies the evil one
Watch and pray.

TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE

Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879) was an unusually gifted and passionate saint. The daughter of a church rector, she was raised in Worcester, England and attended schools in England and Germany. In her love of learning, she grew to become an able scholar and a talented singer and pianist.

The deepest desire of her heart, however, was in “personal spiritual influence upon others”. This led her to value most of all her ability to write; for that reason she expended the majority of her life’s labors in writing prose and poetry that would be spiritually beneficial to the saints.

Havergal suffered poor health and was taken by the Lord at just 42 years of age. But the Lord prospered her ministry; her writings had a large impact in her own day, and several continue to be read and sung today.

As a result of her poor health and declaration from her doctor that she has few months to live, she gave away all her possesion into charity.

The story of “Take My Life” gives a good picture of the kind of passion and joy she had in ministering to others.

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

God bless you. I love this hymn with passion.

missberrypop5: O Jesus, I have promised to
serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
if Thou art by my side, Nor wander from the
pathway if Thou wilt be my
Guide. O let me feel Thee near me!
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that
dazzle, the tempting sounds
I hear;
My foes are ever near me, around me and within;
But Jesus, draw Thou
nearer, and shield my soul
from sin. O let me hear Thee
speaking in accents clear
and still,
Above the storms of
passion, the murmurs of
self will. O speak to reassure me, to
hasten or control;
O speak, and make me
listen, Thou Guardian of my
soul. O Jesus, Thou hast
promised to all who follow
Thee
That where Thou art in
glory there shall Thy
servant be. And Jesus, I have promised
to serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow,
my Master and my Friend. O let me see Thy
footprints, and in them
plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly is in
Thy strength alone.
O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;
And then in Heaven receive
me, my Savior and my
Friend.

OUT OF MY BONDAGE

1 Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of my sickness into Thy health,
Out of my want and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself,
Jesus, I come to Thee!

2 Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into the glorious gain of Thy cross,
Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of earth’s sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life’s storm and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee!

3 Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
Jesus, I come to Thee!

4 Out of the fear and dread of the tomb,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into the joy and pleasure, Thine own,
Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of the depths of ruin untold,
Into the flock Thy love doth enfold,
Ever Thy glorious face to behold,
Jesus, I come to Thee!

1 Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain;
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

nonjebose: German national anthem. I dunno its words. I can only la la la la it. Lwkmd. Forgive me sha

Actually the tune to the German national anthem (the Deutschlandlied written by August Heinrich Hoffman) is the same as the hymm ''Glorious things of thee are spoken'' written by John Newton around the late 18th century.....both authors borrowed the tune from an anthem written by the composer Joseph Haydn for the then Austrian Emperor in the 18th century.
