OMG! we're like twins.   .     . lol

Really, I don't know what to say, But I thank God for the firm background I received in my growing up days in Deeper Life. Most especially, for the undiluted Word of God (Jesus Christ) that is being preached day in and day out. It has helped in my daily Christian life. I thank God.

But, not until recently (some years back) did I come to really appreciate and understand all the "dos" and "don'ts" of the Church. Although, It was pretty tough then for a young lass not to do certain things and "enjoy" life as others do. But, twas all about self-denial and complete surrenderedness to the life and doctrine of Christ.

Yes! I'm happy that I was raised in the Church.  cheesy

So I am now immature for not agreeing with your form of religious worship huh!!
So MR. spiritually mature and mentally mature please enlighten me now this maturity you speak of??

And just a word of advice, you might just want to refrain from using cuss words, swearing or any other derogatory remarks otherwise, I'll have you for lunch. Now civilly tell me what about DLBC that makes you now place yourself on the same level with Jesus.

I want to state that i am not meaning that being in DLBC makes me on the same level with our Lord.
If you talk of maturity, there will be a time in your life when you ill see all these things youth do today as mere youthful exuberance and inner craving for societal acceptability. When you get to that level you will no longer be conscious of the fun you caught as a youth.I don't know how to put it but its all about a sound mind.

A sound mind?? What is a sound mind??

No disrespect but most Deeper lifers do not have a sound mind you included (No disrespect intended). Look at you being all judgemental and stuff. You dont even have a clue who I am or at what stage of life I am at and you are talking of youthful exuberance??
Dude food for thought, if the larger society thinks you are weird, then you just might be weird.

I was born into this church that you want to rub into peoples faces, I grew up there and today, I am an atheist. I know your doctrines and teaching like I remember the letters of the alphabets. DLBC has lost touch with reality. Its my opinion and I hold no appologies. Kids that grow up in your church are the ones that crave for social acceptance and succumb to peer group pressure easily. I remem a girl who came from a deper life home and grew up without a single ear peircing, she suffered from daily taunts and name calling all through her pre-school and middle school years. When she finally got her freedom in the university, she went crazy. three piercings on each ear, she parties like crazy and is just a step away from being a prostitute. I could go on giving testimonies. I attended DLBC when members were forbidden to have Televisions and radios at home. I was in deeper life when Kumuyi came back from the U.K and tried to change some of the doctrines and the congregation started fasting and praying say he had backslided. I am old school deeper life so dont you ever step to me like that again.

A sound mind is being able to stay in touch with the realities of life. Living life to it full potentials knowing that when you die, its game over. There is no fun in heaven (atleast according to the bible).

I have a sound mind, thats why I can look at you and say you need to pull the scales off your eyes.

I hope you respond with a
"Mature"
reply otherwise I am out of here. Here I was hoping to hold a conversation with an enlightened individual and all you can come up with is mature and sound mind.

I've always wondered about kids raised in newer generation churches, including Deeper Life.

I was "born" into the Catholic church, but was raised in Deeper life. As with most things in life, raising kids in Deeper Life church has its good and bad aspects. In my opinion, yes the church teaches mostly sound doctrine - however, upon growing up, I realise that the "sound doctrine" is selective. They (As with most other christian gatherings, anyway) lay more emphasis certain aspects of the Bible than others. (But, I do not hold this against them as each christian gathering is different. - Some specialise on praise, others specialise in The Holy Spirit, others specialise in Giving through Tithes and Offering, others specialise in Miracles, others specialise in Teaching the word, others specialise in Christian Missions.) No one is wrong per se. . . As Paul put it ". . . we are all parts of the same body".

Now, that's the teaching aspect done. The practices i.e dress code, and behavioural code is one thing I do not fully come to terms with. Requiring people (and this affects women, especially) to have a "modest appearance" is quite different from creating a list of what to, and what not to wear. I believe that adults can use their discretion to distinguish  a piece of cloth shows enough cleavage to cause a man to sin from a piece of cloth which is generally decent, and well-presented. I believe that when humans start to determine dress codes and behavioural codes - not so much as relaying what the Bible says - but actually giving people your own interpretation of "what the Bible says" and defining them into Do's and Don'ts. . . It starts to turn into a culture - created by man. . . And these practices are no longer carried out to please God anymore - but to look like other members of the church, to fit into the church, to please man. That is where the point is lost.

So teaching - yes. But practices - no. But then, is there anyone/church who absolutely gets everything right? We could try, but that doesn't mean that we will be perfect while we are still here. But hey, that's why trying counts.

It's very easy for us to sit and point out whatever we think we dont like about Deeper Life, or indeed any other church. However, nothing human has any perfection to it and we'll always have flaws.

I like Deeper Life though I have never been a member but I respect their discipline and the fact that they tend not to veer into worldly issues. There are very few churches where you are not likely to find man's blatant addition to God's word. Deeper Life seems to stand out in this respect in Nigeria.

@ Naijacutee

Thank you very much. I totally loved your analysis of the Deeper life thing. I remember feeling like the devil for wearing a jean and a tee shirt to church, it was sick. No earrings for ladies, couples who are engaged cannot visit each other without supervision, e.t.c. I couldnt stand it either. Kumuyi really does know how to preach, but that is were it also ends for me.

what about Kumuyi's live telecast to other branches every sunday, are they saying that there is no good pastor that can take the sunday service. the church might be sound with morals but like OKIJA_JUJU said "they have lost touch with the realities of life"

@ecomog08

Good for you.
However there are several others out there that are wishing otherwise.
Over the years, I have followed the teachings and doctrines of DLBC; in as much as I accept the style of teaching of Pst. Kumuyi (especially in a modern worls of zero Godly values) the rules that govern doctrines are so extreme and far from easy acceptance.
An average young boy/girl will find it difficult to accept parents that imbibe such doctrines. this has caused a lot of disaffection amongst families.

My take is that parents/guardians should not force this lifestyle down the minds of their wards. Only well read, wildly exposed about life and matured adults are in the best position to choose association with this church.

Also, we should all remember that the race of salvation isn't an easy one.
