Hayormeah: how much glucose syrup with 20 % concentration has to be mixed with 100kg glucose syrup with 40 % concentration so that the mixture will have 36 % glucose? tnks

Solve 0.2x + 100*0.4 = 0.36(x+100)

This is the third time am re-posting my solution to this....(still dont know my ish with the moderators) .

Btw nice wuk Ben(a deservable credit for a non chem engr)
The summary
The Glucose syrup has two distint component... the glucose, and the syrup.

You may need diagramatical representation for clearity.

let the unknown glucose syrup be denoted by x

basis:100kg glucose syrup

20% conc implies 20% glu,80%syp
40%conc implies 40%glu,60%syp
36...........36%glu,64%syp

for processes involving misture in a CSTR,
mass in=mass out
taking material balance of glucose
0.2x + 0.4(100) =0.36x

0.16x=40
=>
x=40/0.16(cross chk and complete)
Nb:taking balance of the syrup instead should yield same result.
*Am out*Hope it helps..........

Milk with 3.8% fat and 8.1% fat-free solids (FFS) is used for the production of canned concentrated milk. The process includes separation of the cream in a centrifuge and concentration of the partially defatted milk in an evaporator. If the cream that is produced in the centrifuge contains 55% water, 40% fat, and 5% fat-free solids, calculate how much milk is necessary in order to produce a can of concentrated milk that contains 410 g milk with 7.8% fat and 18.1% fat-free solids. How much cream and how much water must be removed in the centrifuge and the evaporator respectively? Assume steady state
