How many of you are willing to stand up against the draining of our Nation's Wealth by these foreign Religious bodies?

churches collect money from the Nigerian common man to feed to pastors material desires, big manshions, private jets, etc.

Tithe money from churches is sent to foreign western country like the vatican to FIll Their Coffers.

This is the Money of the Nigerian Common Man.

Meanwhile, zakat money is being used to fund terrorist activities abroad, boko haram , al qaeda, etc.

And apart from this all, Our money is being used by these orgainzations to build more religious structures TAX FREE on prime property land; the opportunity cost of which could be used to build schools , hospitals, business outlets, Community Centres, etc.

Taxation of Religious bodies can increase the Government Revenues and make our Government Coffers richer. This money could then be used for development of Nigeria and Standard People's Progressive issues, etc.

Also needed to be abolished is the Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign nations by muslims/christians.
Or else even Pagans/Traditionalists must get Pilgrimage subsidies or atleast shrine construction subsidies and atheists must also get some form of Scientific Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign Scientific/Technology Forums, etc. (which will benefit the Nation)

If you are for this petition , copy this onto the reply below " I "username" as a Nigerian Citizen, wish the Nigerian Government elected by me to Tax Religious Bodies in the Nation. "

You miss road.
Someone brought it up at the Confab, but it was rejected immediately.
Besides, Nigeria is corrupt, even if it was implemented it would be more money to be looted by the ogas at the top.

Better politicians then pastors.

Politicians are elected representatives of the Nigerian public.

Our Leaders represent our votes and public choice.

We should think twice before casting the vote.

OR if not, then the common man should take a more active role in Politics.

stop this cribbing.

They are "Oga @ the top" because we brought them up there and installed them on the throne.

I would propose a 99% tax rate with all proceeds going towards an improved network of public libraries, universal health care and health education.

Those three improvements alone would negate the need and dependence on religious groups.

A greater appreciation of literacy should lead to more curiosity and understanding of the political system. This in turn should lead to greater citizen involvement.

Once the people are aware that the theft can only continue of they allow it then things should change.

Even if in the beginning the current Nigerian way of doing things leads to some of that money going where it shouldn't go there will still be enough in the system to effect change.

only a handful like reading, or are curious. African tradition is very conservative. Anything new is seen as a threat, people do not want to know about the world. This is a comment from the Black hole thread:
the universe is increasing rapidly,we know little about it and I believe the creator want our knowledge to be limited, cuz na this ITK make eve go chop apple now see wetin we de suffer, lets leave black hole and instead fill the hole in our heartS
With comments like that, how can we appreciate literacy.

Once the people are aware that the theft can only continue of they allow it then things should change.

This is the Resource Curse
It is from our excess resources. Nigeria was doing fine till we discovered oil. People think that since we have oil, the money will never finish, and don't care. We don't even have a sophisticated tax system. I tire for this country.

Even if in the beginning the current Nigerian way of doing things leads to some of that money going where it shouldn't go there will still be enough in the system to effect change.
Yes, maybe. But we both know they can't implement it. Maybe in a dictatorship.

Nigeria is conservative but there is a pack mentality. People do not want to miss out on whatever the next big thing is - this was true of xtianity and can also be true of a greater literacy culture. They may not appreciate it now but if it is seen as a means for personal fulfilment independent of any large money grabbing institution then I believe that people will see the benefit.

Yes they should. Soon churches will begin selling shares on Nigerian stock exchange. I came across a post where TB Joshua talks about how to identify a fake pastor, question is, is TB Joshua not fake? Read it here: http://www..com/prophet-tb-joshua-how-to-identify-a-fake-pastor/

Religious bodies should make returns and provide tax clerance certificate from which revenue is generated for the betterment on citizens.

Most of em garner fat income from tithes, sow of seed, offerings and donations yet they best they could do is establish glorified secondary school and make parents/guardians spend huge amounts on tuition fee.

Enough is enough !
