@Pagan:I understand where you are coming from BUT can you tax money that has already been taxed??...I mean Church money is more or less like donations from individuals who willingly give right??
So how can that work?

PAGAN9JA: How many of you are willing to stand up against the draining of our Nation's Wealth by these foreign Religious bodies?

churches collect money from the Nigerian common man to feed to pastors material desires, big manshions, private jets, etc.

Tithe money from churches is sent to foreign western country like the vatican to FIll Their Coffers.

This is the Money of the Nigerian Common Man.

Meanwhile, zakat money is being used to fund terrorist activities abroad, boko haram , al qaeda, etc.

And apart from this all, Our money is being used by these orgainzations to build more religious structures TAX FREE on prime property land; the opportunity cost of which could be used to build schools , hospitals, business outlets, Community Centres, etc.

Taxation of Religious bodies can increase the Government Revenues and make our Government Coffers richer. This money could then be used for development of Nigeria and Standard People's Progressive issues, etc.

Also needed to be abolished is the Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign nations by muslims/christians.
Or else even Pagans/Traditionalists must get Pilgrimage subsidies or atleast shrine construction subsidies and atheists must also get some form of Scientific Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign Scientific/Technology Forums, etc. (which will benefit the Nation)

If you are for this petition , copy this onto the reply below " I "username" as a Nigerian Citizen, wish the Nigerian Government elected by me to Tax Religious Bodies in the Nation. "

The Gods Bless Nigeria! cool

Remember the money will be taken from the poor
grin LOL. no pastor has d right to increase tithe; it remains 10%. U can decide to increase it however. Paying tithe is meant to bless u abundantly not to enrich d pastor.

I think the church just like the govt represents the apex ofa hierachy through which the rich connects with the poor for the benefit of the larger masses...but human selfishness ruined it

Taxing who's already taxing will only create a rigorous taxation chain and the churches might introduce more severe means for their survival

Our people need to liberate from mental slavery and learn to accept change...

Government elected by me to Tax Religious Bodies in
the Nation.

I support it for all religious bodies. In fact they should be registered like every business or companies. Tax them heavily or they should leave the Nigerian soil. You can't do business in our country and expect to Dodge tax. smiley

They have built roads, infrastructure,etc.

Yes it is true they could have done more . It is true they are corrupt.

But you cant deny the fact that the Govt. has done something.

The Govt. exists because of us.

yes they exist cos of us.

so, they should use the one at their disposals judiciously before we start giving them from churches and mosques.

supporting and funding corruption is a no-no

beside, u like Jesus/Muhammed or not, the government serving us must have respect for these bodies via no meddling.

No one is talking about taxing individuals.

If they want tithe to continue, let them keep it at the standard 10% as decreed by the bible.

We are talking about taxing churches and the pastors.

Let me remind you that it was the Pagan Romans who crucified jesus and whenever evil rises again and again, we Pagans will nail it to a plank of wood.

For Good cannot exist without evil and evil cannot exist without Good.

I'm of the view that churches and other religious bodies be taxed.l know this view will be highly unpopular amongst religious fanatics who are likely to say thithes and offerings belong to God.Hello who is deceiving who.We all see what is the order of the day with the big mansions, expensive and sleek cars and even private jets bought by the self proclaimed men of God from the money they collect from their gullible members.

A special fund should be created where taxes specificslly collected from religious houses he used for specific humanitarian projects.
Anyway for now this is probably wishful thinking but someday someone with my mindset will be in the right position to implement the taxation of churches. However, until that happens may the gullible masses continue to enrich their pastors. For me they can't get a penny from me.

Yes,i agree that all religious bodies should be taxed given the amount of money they make. Everywhere you look, you see one acclaimed man of god living like a king. The sad thing is how they brainwash all their members not to even ask what all the money they've been collecting is used for.

Don't even get me started on the pilgrimage sponsorship. On what basis does a country sponsor a group of individuals on a personal fanfare with tax payers money? That's the height of misappropriation of public funds. It should be stopped.

Better politicians then pastors.

Politicians are elected representatives of the Nigerian public.

Our Leaders represent our votes and public choice.

We should think twice before casting the vote.

OR if not, then the common man should take a more active role in Politics.

stop this cribbing.

They are "Oga @ the top" because we brought them up there and installed them on the throne.

I strongly. disagree with you. irrespective of your beliefs, the Church has done more good than harm in Nigeria. I know a number of churches that organize poverty alleviation programmes, offer scholarships. amongst a host of other things they do to give back to the society that enriched them.

Politicians re not always true representatives of the masses; more often than not, our votes don't count . you suggested d common man should take a. more active role in Politics. how is that even possible?

Religious bodies should not be taxed in Nigeria, there is too much loophole in the system; more taxes will have no net effect on development of Nigeria

They should be audited periodically (quarterly, semi-annually, or annually). All revenue generated, less ; reasonable compensations for full time and part-time workers for running the organization including pastors, assistants, Imans, up to the cleaners of the place.plus their documented and traceable charitable expenditures to less privilege members of the society who are unrelated to proprietors, pastors, or Imans of the organization, but can be a member or none member of the organization. The balance should be taxed according to the revenue bracket of the taxing edit of internal revenue service.

What are you people saying? Who study accountacy here? What category of tax wil u place this sort of a thing? How is money from the church generated? Is the church a profiting organisation? If no who taxes a non profiting organisation? That aside, tithing is an obligation for us to God, giving our first fruit, 10 percent of "INCREASE" is for the elevation and building up of the church, and you people want to tax GOD?
One thing you all should know is that tithing is NOT for the pastor, it is for GOD and the elevation of His church and Gospel, what ever a pastor does with the money he will give account to the almighty.
If your problem is that you can't keep giving money to "rich" churches, then by all means find a small or growing church, they are all around you.
