Society becoming more urbanised yes, lazy? Not so,language is just a means of communication, the easier the better, pidgin English is not necessarily inferior to the English language.there are countries wu have pidgin English as official language.
Infact there was a research carried out by the BBC,which said that in 10/15 years period, pidgin English wud become an official language in most west afrcan countries.
Language could be defined as a means of communication between a group of people but it goes more than that, it is an integral part of a culture, In fact take away original language from a set of people and they forget who they are. BBC may have their facts through research (unfortunately we don't research into such issues in this side of the globe) but I doubt if it can come true, pidgin may become more popular possibly refined but I bet it can't be regularized across borders. I once read a novel by Sierra-Leonean or Liberian(can't really remember), written in pidgin English and it was nice.

Yeah right! Keep deceiving yourself! When you're in a position to use it, you'll remember how important it is. Until then, it doesn't matter.

I have no regret not knowing how to speak my local dialect. Don't get me wrong o! I can speak Yoruba but I don't like it.

I speak 4 languages apart from English. French, Portuguese, Spanish and I just added Chinese. Now am thinking of adding Dutch and Swahili

You too can learn. I pick languages a lot so I basically taught myself those languages and it's been fun. Coming from a mixed race makes me more egar to learn more languages.

Your mother tongue is very important irrespective of our educational qualifications. I can speak mine but not as fluent as expected. There was an experience I had at a traditional marriage ceremony of a cousin. I was asked to be the family spokeman for the event. I was mixing up my language with English and our host were infuriated and I was so embarrassed. Someone more fluent took over from me. From that day I decided to improve on my tribal communication skills. I think I am better now. The easiest way to learn is to spend more time with the elderly.

Speaking ur mother tongue is very important and should be the first language u suppose to be fluent in.
Last year my cousin was asked to offer vote of thanks to people that attended his wedding bt he couldn't do that in his native tongue and he was embarrassed by the MC.

Ur points do not deffend ur argument enof.
Do u kn the millions of people dt communicate in pidgin English? So y can't it be regularise? Do know how many languages that have evolved in few decades that never existed bofor?language comes an goes an there's nothing one can do about it except to adapt.

pls wot is nw the importance of native languages? Do u knw hw many languages go extinct each day? If I'm an ibo man staying in the north, wot is nw the importnce of learning my native dialect wen I can't use it to communicate with the people around? Nigerians re too tribalistic, until we realize this, no progress.

You need to borrow some brain my friend, so you intend to die in foreign land? Dont you know that your mothers tongue comes first before any other language. When all chips are down you still have to go home, then what language do you speak to your people? Be wise!
