The offer is still standing, though. Whenever any update gets up to 50 likes, the next update would include a Voicenote.

*******************
May had been staring at the screen of her phone for a long time. It was a sleek gold Iphone 6, built more for aesthetics than functionality, and it was easy to understand how one could get lost admiring its stylishness. However, that wasn't what May was doing.

May was staring at her phone, but she wasn't seeing it. Her brain was churning and whirling over the varied plausible and non-plausible explanations as to her daughter's continued absence.
Mojisola had been missing for several weeks now. May couldn't believe it; May refused to believe it, but that was the only logical conclusion that the facts at her disposal added up to. Mojisola, the only one of her three children on speaking terms with her, the one she secretly loved with a passion that scared even her was missing, presumed kidnapped. That was the only explanation.
Initially, when she hadn't showed up to their customary Sunday dinner- an occasion every child of hers had been taught to observe with religious obedience but which so far she had only received a polite tolerance - she hadn't batted an eyelid. They had a falling apart some days earlier over a difference of opinion on policy matters as it concerned one of the companies the family owned. Mojisola had loudly declared herself "sick to death of her mother's highhandedness" as well as "done with anything" that had to do with her. Her mother had been unperturbed. Mojisola was very like her father- dramatic, easily excited, prone to rash decisions but unable to hold malice. May had felt she simply needed time to cool off. It was part out of pride and part a statement of nonchalance that she did not follow through her daughter's act of rebellion with a predictably caustic phone call demanding to know why she had been left to eat Sunday dinner alone. Now, she deeply regretted that decision, for she was several weeks behind the cold trail that Mojisola left behind and nothing she thought to do seemed fruitful. Her daughter's phone number was switched off. Perhaps the phone had been stolen or dumped by the kidnappers. None of her friends knew her whereabouts, they all claimed they hadn't seen her and if the intensity of their denials were to be taken seriously, it seemed that she, May, was the last person to have seen her daughter. She, as well as the members of the Board of Directors present at the meeting where Mojisola had vowed her independence of her mother. Of course, each of the Board members she had asked all politely but with strong rebuff in their eyes, told her that maybe Mojisola had indeed meant those words she screamed in the Boardroom.

She refused to believe it. So, she had turned to the police. At first, the Divisional Head of Lekki Area H was helpful. The smell of crisp bank notes May had caressed his palm with and the promise of more gingered him into an energetic pursuit he usually reserved only for Unilag undergrads. Like a little terrier , he had started down the path of least resistance, earnestly visiting Mojisola's friends and acquaintances until he too had come to the same conclusion as the Members of Board- this was a family matter, best settled within the family and that Mojisola would turn up once she was done licking her wounds. The Almighty Nigerian police could not justify spending any more of their limited time or non-existent resources into settling family disputes. That message he had delivered to May with a heavy tinge of regret but with the finality of a Judges' gavel when she barged into his office demanding for an update on the case.
It seemed May had exhausted all of her options. The advice she had received all rang sound but she couldn't dispel that emptiness in her tummy, that hollow feeling that snuck up behind her when she was idle, that sixth sense all mothers were blessed with that betrayed some misfortune circling their children.
So, she stared blindly at her phone wondering if indeed all her options were exhausted, wondering whether she could, if she dared to exploit that last fail safe. Searching deep within her, she knew she would never forgive herself if anything happened to Mojisola on her watch, if she lost Mojisola again.

This realization took the decision for her. She began to prepare to undertake the journey she had taken seven years ago when Mojisola was almost taken from her. It would be a journey that would haunt her as did the previous , a journey that would cost something dear to her, but as the Good Book put it, Unworthy is the one that puts his hand to the plough and looks back."
