That role work best in areas with good surgical team not in a Nigerian theatre with Nigerian doctors and their egoistical conduct. Most surgeons are control freaks, so when another team member has the power for recheck and call for time out before opening and closing the patients he/she is seen as a rival.

With your superior knowledge of anatomy as a surgeon, you should know before closing up the patient that the instruments therein are foreign bodies and needs to be removed.

The thing most of you doctors don't get is that it is not due to hatred that causes people to pit against you. Rather it is a reaction against your egotistical selves. It is human nature. Change your attitude. Understand the primary reason you are in this profession: the patient. Treat the patient with empathy and respect. Once you understand this and believe in it everything else will fall into place. Can you imagine gynecologist telling a pregnant woman in labor that she needs to hurry up and deliver or else he was going to leave, for he does not want to miss his appointment at another place (probably his clinic). Why would I support such individual in anything he is asking for?

olokpa11: Look,the way the resident doctors are going,it's for the best.I am very close 2 two resident doctors,one died from a car accident @ itu bridge because equipment needed for immediate treatment for him was locked up by nurses WHO WERE ON STRIKE!!!,These resident doctors go on strike @ the flimsiest excuse,I asked one of them during their last strike to give me the reason 4 the strike,and he said it was due to low HAZARD fee and Ialso because of some political offices!!! And these are guys who hv not even done their youth service,they are paid about 200-250k @ ucth in calabar and imagine them playing politics with patients life?I know how many people died when they went on about 3 months strikelast year,I think they are getting out of hand!!!
