When I wanted to do baptism, after praying and about to enter the bus to the destination, they said we shul start speaking in tongues, mhen how can. Say things I don't understand, twisted my tongue for about 3seconds, it was as if I was speaking gibberish, so I stopped. Uptil now, I don't speak in tongues even though they ask us to pray in tongues, when I'm not a kid that just want to be learning how to talk

Good day people. Its tiring to see 7/10 threads on the religion section bashing the work of the Holy Ghost. If you don't believe in the gifts of the Holy Ghost, then at least don't mock them. Countless people have opened threads concerning speaking in tongues. The topic of your thread looks innocent but you've obviously made up your mind that speaking in tongues is demonic,of the devil and so on. If you need further clarification, you can get books and not open a thread. I pray God gives you insight. Shalom

Speaking in tongue is real but most people and churches fake it

litaninja: First Off: I am a christian.
That being said, if you read in the bible, Acts 2; 7 -Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 - Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 - Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 - Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 - (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”

But over here in Naija, the only things you ever hear from the "pastors" when speaking in tongues is "Shakala boromasekebo" "OOO, Musu lubu freeki meesele" "Leseleme no lo mo pheretu" e.t.c. e.t.c

Please how many of us here have actually heard any MEANINGFUL, TANGIBLE things in other TONGUES being said while these pastors speak in tongues?
well its better you thread carefully on this issue.

Besides they are actually languages spoken and its not supposed to be jargons(its all over) ive heard an old woman form offa in kwara state after baptism with the Holy Ghost, she was speaking chinese for real. Everyone probably have heard it and could prove it was chinese. She hasnt travelled outside nigeria before, talkless of learning even english.

Sometimes ive heard spanish, latin.

At a Morris Cerullo crusade, an indian woman was speaking yoruba. A yoruban man was a few metres from her and he was bewildered at how she was using his own tongue to speak. For the ones ive not know to be real words, i cant judge. But i believe it has to be like as it were on the day of pentecost i.e a language unknow to the speaker.
