Never understood why so much reluctance when it came to AA's.
Personally I don't have a problem with black people of all origins I mean what is there to have a problem with.
Not like any one is better than the other. We all are basically lurking behind every other nationality because at least each nationality has that one country that is doing well.

those are the same parents that don't want their children to marry from another ethnic group in nigeria. is just plain closed mindedness. parents shouldn't be choosing partners for their children by the way

I always thought it was hypicritical when Nigerian parents would falsely claim that AA's no culture of their own.
Just because they thought what they held was better.
So how true is it you ask. . . . . . it is as true as Nigeria getting a reasonable president within the next open term.

But what baffles me is that how some of these same parents who claim AA's have no culture, are the same bunch who didn't pass that forsaken culture to their own young.

Well i think AA's have their own culture except of course you have another definition for culture. As far as i know, AA's like every other groups have their own beliefs and it's just a clear case of ethnocentrism that makes us (Nigerian) believe they have no culture, the same way we think of other races

i think nigerians are one of the least ethnocentric people you can come by. they just conclude that AAs are "cultureless" and ethnocentric- as an awful lot of them have near zero knowledge about other 'cultures'; and their supposed 'culture' seems to be skewed towards gangsterism. wrong, but

To be honest, I'd have misgivings if my son was to come home and say he wants to marry a Black American
Sad as it sounds, it's the truth. I cant help but picture them as I have seen them most times. I think I'll be embarrased if my daughter-in-law was to be dressed the way many of them dress. Plus, I am not comfortable with all these open-eye method of theirs which is at variance with what I am comfortable with. It is not to say that I think I am better than them or anything but I just feel that the differences in thought patterns will make things very awkward and also, fierce independence that exists in that part of the world is alien to me.
I will be sad if my daughter wanted a Black American man. It will take a while for me to accept and I will have to be sure that the person is from a decent happy family, not a product of split parents, and the man has to be a prefessional who is very decent (in my personal opinion), not a smoker or a drinker etc etc.

That's just me! Please note that this is not because I think I am better. . . I just know that differences, can create and, tend to create problems within a family

I'd feel the same if it was a white person. It's just the cultural differences that get me concerned because they matter a lot. Although some people try to say that love will cover the differences. When you start living together with someone, little differences can destroy the relationship, even if you're from the same village/settlement; let alone when you have serious cultural differences.

I'd rather have a decent black in-law than a white in-law anyway. It will be easier for a black person (if they are from a decent background) to 'blend' in than for a white person. Entirely my personal opinion!
