Once ah got home, i went on number rampage! editing and
dialling that number and saying "dammit!" every time some
boring-sounding woman or some tired man or randy guy or
lousy girl picked the phone- infact even if Rihanna had picked Im sure I'd still have said dammit (ha! I wish).
But then someone called back, and when she spoke my heart began to race. could I have cracked the code? could that be her?...
voice: sorry, this number called me.
me: yeah. where are you? (i was playing detective)
voice: sorry who's this?
me: *my name* but first i want to find out something...
voice: ...*repeats my name* wait, do I know you? where do I
know you?
me: WHERE-ARE-U OOO?
voice: at home. in my father's house.
me: and where is this "your father's house"? (i needed this info to know if she was the one).
And then she ruined my expectations.
voice: Lagos.
I could hear my inner self yell "dammit!!"
I gathered some "wrong number" apology and sold it to her,
then hung up.
*phone ring*
Note: this stuff happened only some 24 hours to the time of
this post. and its weight on my mind is what caused me to take to Facebook to offload. so u are reading raw material- not some well-thought-out, well embellished story. Hence I
apologise!
I was already losing hope when the phone began to ring again. I recognised the number- the same person I'd just spoken with. I reluctantly picked it.
me: hello.
voice: hey, *calls my name*, tell me the truth, how did u get
my number? bla bla bla bla. dont get me wrong, this girl
sounded witty and exciting Too, but I guess im just a one-track- mind guy so once um into something its hard to sway my interest. I'll hardly be interested In "another one" no matter how similar or even identical they may be. and um like that with everything- not just ladies.
But this phone girl seemed to be crushing already cos she
refused to close the conversation (as i hoped to) and kept
asking all those personal questions. so I decided to play along a little.......
Funny how we ended up talking and laughing like long-time
friends until she was about to run outta airtime and insisted
that I called back. All the while some part of me was still
secretly wishing that she would suddenly say "tada!! Im in
ABA!" and I'd be like But heh! that's just lyk wishing that a
nayked african girl with bids on her waist and ankles would
suddenly appear in my room and start dancing ballet.
Anyway, turns out Hannah (not her real name) is attending one of the Elite private UNIs and can cook stuff and is witty, fun, interesting and has long hair (haven't seen it but i generally like long hair) and apparently she likes my voice and personality (so she says) cos she's been texting and calling me in the last 24hours.
BUT.... where are you? you won my heart in less than a minute without saying much- just curving ur lips and smiling the way you did. I know u'd be disappointed that I couldn't remember ur number, but dont worry, like Jason Mraz's song; I Wont Give Up!!! The search CoNtInUeS...
