There was a debate between me and a friend on this issue. Tho I'm a science student, I decided to put up my first story on nairaland. A frnd saw it and he said true scientist dont write stories but they rather apply their knowledge on other things. I disagreed with him and said being a scientist doesnt stop you from being a writer and vice versa. What do you think?

was any of dis guys a writer?...i dnt mean scientific books oo....if they didnt apply their scientific knowledge to solving human needs we would probably be using steam engines now

its nt abt bin right or nt. 4rm u first statement ure indirectly saying if u want to be a scientist u cannot write. There's no big deal in a scientist writing. Its just a hobby. Am writing this just because am bored

dnt quote me wrong..i am saying dat as a scientist u shouldnt write...but wat u write should show dat u are a scientist....u are bored, as a scientist cant u make some research? dat would broaden ur knowldge.. being a scientist is not about solving physics and chemistry questions alone...its about applying ur knowledge...dats y Nigeria keep dangling at d bottom in science and technological advancement...yet you say Nigeria is dis Nigeria is dat...hav u ever sat down and think of how u can use ur scientific knowledge in contributing to d development of d country and d society at large

yes, ave nt had any scientific achievement. Buh i am happy to say that I ave impacted knowledge into so many pple. I counsel a lot of pple and have seen positive results. And what have u bin able to achieve 4rm ur great scientific research. What new thing have u invented?

there are lots of dem which i have researched on but i have not implemented it...but 1 which was successful is the production of BIODIESEL from vegetable oil which i did in d chemistry lab in my secondary school. The process involves TRANSESTERIFICATION...for security reason i can't discuss it fully here

U see, dats where d problem lies, we d young scientists are not interested in science, i wish i can meet like minded pple who are willing to develop this country in d area of science n tech, most of us are busy having fun

Nope, not at all. But there might be a time u would be face with d difficult choice of choosing one between d two. If it eventually happen which will you go for?

Being a science student cannot stop you from being a passionate writer. I'm a science student pursuing Biology for now and that doesn't stop me from being a writer, though I'm thinking of going for 2nd degree in another course entirely. Best writers on my campus are science students and they are doing wonderfully well.
