"The bible teaches us to forgive our enemies, even when they wrong us. What about God? Why couldn't He forgive Satan?"

Well, God did not forgive Satan, because forgiveness is based on sacrifice; someone must take responsibility for the wrongs. This is the reason most religions of the world have no provision for forgiveness; the only one that truly preaches forgiveness is Jesus, because He took responsibility of our sins.

Jesus died for ALL men, because He came as a man, but Satan is not a man, if he was, Jesus would have paid fully for him too, and since he is not man, there is no one to take responsibility for him. Therefore, he will answer for himself.

Remember that God is a spirit. If He had died for the sin of the world in the spiritual sense it would be of no merit to man. For that cause He had to come in human form (Jesus) to cancel man's debt in the flesh. So we see that the redemption of man was initially impossible because God was a spirit. Not until when he became flesh was the redemption of man possible.

My point is you said that Satan could not be forgiven because s/he was/is not a man, i.e he's a spirit, and so God's justice should not be questioned, but your claim isn't reasonable enough. The truth is God chose not to forgive Satan. He only chose to forgive man by going far as becoming a man (Jesus). It was God's choice to do so. He's not living by example of "forgiving our enemies even when they wrong us". His own words go against Him and He's not worth calling God. He should have demonstrated this kind of love He's preaching by simply dying for Satan in the spirit too, then His justice, in that aspect, is commendable.

Well I have two theories why God didn't, won't (or can't) forgive Satan and his angels:

1: It could be because the Devil and his fallen angels DIDN'T ask for forgiveness or probably CAN'T even ask for forgiveness because their heart has become irreversably hardened, even beyond repentance.

God promised to forgive.

1John 1v9 -If we confess our sins, He is FAITHFUL AND JUST to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The bible didn't say God is MERCIFUL AND GRACIOUS to forgive. No it said God is FAITHFUL AND JUST to forgive.

Meaning with God forgiveness is a promise not just a nice gesture. When God forgives, He's not just being merciful, He's being JUST. Forgiveness is DIVINE JUSTICE from God to anyone who asks for it. In other words, with God, it is JUSTICE to forgive, if someone asks for it.

There is even an account in scripture of when Jesus granted the requests of evil spirits.

Luke 8v32 -and there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they(The devils) besought Him(Jesus) that He would suffer them to enter into them. AND HE SUFFERED THEM.

So if the Devil and his demons can't be forgiven, it would probably be because they DIDN'T OR CAN'T ask for it because their hearts are irreversibly hardened -beyond repentance. Because forgiveness is JUSTICE with God for whomsoever asks.

And it would be understandable if demons can't repent or ask for forgiveness.

Hebrews 6v4-6 -For it is IMPOSSIBLE forthose who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost.

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come.

IF THEY SHALL FALL AWAY, to RENEW THEM AGAIN UNTO REPENTANCE.

I know this passage is talking about privileged believers who turn their backs on faith in Christ. But I think it is consistent with the message that, there is a level of glory you can behold which if you can still turn your back on God after beholding such glory, your heart will be hardened beyond repentance.

I suspect that has happened to the Devil and his angels.

2: the second reason why I believe or think God won't or can't forgive the devil and his demons is that; unlike mankind, Demons were not deceived into sin and rebellion.

Satan and his demons voluntarily relinquished and rebelled against the nature of God. Man also sinned and lost the image and likenesse of God, but that was because we believed a lie.

We didn't voluntarily or rebelliously relinquish the nature of God; we were deceived. So if God will grant the grace of a second chance to any of His creation, it would be man.

But if after we hear the gospel of salvation through faith in Christ and we still reject the offer, then we too would have rebelliously relinquished the nature of God; sharing the same eternal fate with the devil.

So its either God could have forgiven them if they asked, but they didn't or couldn't coz they're hardened beyond repentance. Or there just isn't a second chance for voluntary rebellion against the nature of God after beholding His glory.

I could be wrong or there could be more reasons sha.

Must our enemies ask for forgiveness before we forgive them?

God forgives trespasses or flaws that come with carnality. And we should do that too.

There are many times we disobey Him and He let's it slide. He still remains our Father even in those sins. These are sins we commit when we stumble as we strive to walk with Him and be like Him.

But when the sin is a sin of unbelief or outright rejection of God, there can be no friendship or fellowship with such a person.

There can't be unconditional reconciliation with someone who hates and rejects you in person. Such a sin needs repentance to be forgiven and waved.

The OT Bible does not state any condition for forgiveness. It instructs us to forgive
unconditionally, same should apply to our enemies even when they are unrepentant.

BTW how do you know that God allows those sins you mention to slide? Have you been to heaven before? No one is certain untill you get to heaven and you are told that it won't be counted against you.

If somebody comes to SCATTER all you have worked for all your life, and even creates enemity between you and your children to the extent that your children are made to suffer for the rest of their lives, will you forgive the person in question? Especially if you "loved" this person? What GOD did was only natural of him I tell you. For him(GOD) to even still allow him(devil) to this time sef (without throwing him finally into hell since o) is his "mercies", if you ask me. May GOD help us all and save us from him (devil). AMEN

Yahweh doesnt have the power to forgive Satan. HE has no jurisdiction over the affairs of Satan. Yahweh is like a spoilt kid that got too attached to his toys. He is a bully and a spoilt brat.
Humanity owes its salvation to Lucifer who shone light upon our darkened hearts. TODAY, OPEN YOUR HEART TO HIM. OPEN YOUR HEART TO KNOWLEDGE. KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOD. YOU CAN CREATE AND DESTROY. USE THE POWER WITHIN.

Are we still talking about God and the Devil? Coz that was the angle of my argument.
Or you want us to forgive the Devil? Since he's our enemy too.

I'm not talking of man to fellow man. Ofcourse, we should forgive our fellow man, and not wait for them to even earn our forgiveness.

And even if they don't apologize, we should not seek to get even with them over what they did.

But we should also remember that we can't force anyone to be friends with us if they don't want to be. So even if you've forgiven someone, that doesn't make you friends. Friendship must be mutual.

But the thread is about God and the Devil. Let's keep to that.

But you're right. I guess "Let it slide" is not the right expression to use.

God is Love... if from the above you call truth, then, the bible lied that God is Love, and love forgive. Satan has pride and never asked for forgiveness.

I concur

asala1:

We forgive them if we have one who's already forgiven us. Someone paid our price and asked us to forgive all who err... God never created an enemy, Satan chose to be one, and by that, if he needs redemption, someone would need to be a sacrifice to atone for Satan's sin...human's won't suffice...what being would? Jesus already died for the world of men... He can't die AGAIN for the world of spirits.

You are so wrong.... blood was shed for forgiveness of sins... Goats, bulls etc

“The law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb. 9:22, NIV).

He did... it went so because He's given us all free will... even the devil. The devil deceived Eve, got the adamic authority, and ruled man in a terrible way, destroyed every beautiful thing God did... and God made a prophecy, that the seed of the woman would bruise the devil's head... Jesus was that seed.
