Remember the iPhone does not do wap. only full internet so choose a network that offers that (not zain for now)

mtn browses without any configuration. at least on mine.

as long as theres EDGE/GPRS, you only need to enable Data Roaming. at least as naijafan says, on MTN. but it works for me on other networks elsewhere.

enabling data roaming will not save the day if he has the new iPhone 3g (the earliest iPhone does not even have that option). The iPhone 3g in the country are only unlocked for voice and not data so it is meaningless enabling data roaming

wat my 'earliest iPhone' has that option - data roaming (altho mine has always been off). its a function of the firmware. currently on 2.0.1 didnt see a point in 2.0.2's changelog maybe i was too lazy to move on to 2.1, but since 2.2 is out now, i guess i'm gonna upgrade soon. thing is i dont find anything fascinating in the changelogs enough to make me upgrade. lots of those minor changes have already been fixed by 3rd party apps.

dataroam has always been on the first iphone, just check settings>general>network.

its also obtainable on the iphone 3G. infact, if you dont enable dataroaming on the 3G you wont even be able to connect to data service. unlocking refers to all aspects of telephony except visual voicemail; most turbo/rebel sims even allow visual voicemail in supported areas and networks.

i have been using MTN 3G trouble-free on the 3G and EDGE on the other iphone.

I am so anxious to know more about the configurations for the networks you are familiar with
I use mtn/glo and zain line!, what are the network setting and the vpn and also the correct configurations!>.
pLs do go into details and explain more, I am using apple Iphone 16g, version 2.1

well, like we said you dont really need to fill in anything as long as you're on MTN. EDGE works almost automatically. and by the way you dont need VPN to surf; only if you want to tunnel in to your online pc at home, work or elsewhere.


1. go to settings>General>network

2. enable DataRoaming (do turn this off if you travel outside naija and want to roam)

3. if you must input the connection credentials, select Cellular Data Network

4. input the regular MTN settings

i am using rebel simcard with my simcard, maybe that is why it won't allow me to connect to internet, is there something i can do about that?, and also how do i know when i am connected to the internet, will i be browsing automatically on safari browser?.
but if now i will have to go to MTN office for the manual configuration
