Good idea but wrong approach.

Rather than making pronouncements and giving ultimatums, what a governor worth his salt would do is to pass enabling legislation to cover building construction as a whole, and then a section of the act would make toilet construction compulsory and also stipulate appropriate penalties for failure to comply. That's how governance is done.

I won't be surprised if this directive isn't applied at all or reversed after a couple of months.

I did my NYSC in that state,aramoko village. we have to contend with every crawling things in the bush,while answering the call of nature..

This ultimatum should be extended also to Lagos slums,where only few houses have toilet,and bathroom.

Imagine a person having to bath very early,or no bathing that day,or having to shot-put every time he wants to poo.


Some landlords are just plain wicked.

Please don't generalize or lump other regions into this. I don't know of any single residential facility particularly in the SE and SS without a toilet.

This is very common in the SW. When I did my NYSC in Ibadan, the flat I lived had no toilets and when we pleaded with the landlord to put one, he blatantly said, I TOO DON'T HAVE ONE AT MY PLACE. Which we responded...REALLY? No wonder!

Is it that they are scared if incurring more cost in the building construction? They dont construct septic tanks. They rather channel the water frm the bathroom and kitchen into the street.

Between yes,a provincial (state) govt could subsidize any material to support the poor,the needy and their citizens.

In most cases Government builds free public toilets,enacts and enables policies to all commercial public service providers (e.g Shopping malls, filling stations,etc), to also ensure sufficient convenience facilities as such are mandatory and incorporated in their structural plans and constructions.

If you have left the shores of Nigeria for a more organised country you will understand.

Thought I was d only one that noticed it. In Lagos too they brought such culture. D few ones that build toilet will channel the bathroom water to d street or drainage tru PVC pipes or dig ground for d waste to enter d street.

Yesterday there was a thread by dytbabe on Lagos island dirty roads. People were surprise to see waste water on stree this dry season. All the buildings on the streets channel their waste to d roads rather than septic tanks or water chamber.

Last xmas I was in oshogbo for a project, I couldn't believe my eyes, seeing married women shyting openly on bush paths exposing their kitty. OMG! U shame fire them.

I congratulate fayose for this ultimatum, it's long over due.

Mumu governor who created stomach infrastructure ministry at the government's expense and now forcing landlords to create stomach waste disposal infrastructure by themselves at their own expense!

why not compliment the effort of the stomach infrastructure by also building toilets for them?

I do not think he needs include tenants or prospective tenants in his list of possible people to be prosecuted.

Unless he is saying that there are better houses which are also affordable than the number of tenants available in Ekiti State.

Will any sensible person see an affordable house with toilets and choose one without toilet facilities.

The State Government watched these buildings crop up. They all have a planning regulation and enforcement office. The Local Government send out their touts/officials to monitor ALL upcoming projects so they can collect fees. They however never monitor these building properly from conception stage to the execution/construction.

Kindly, leave the tenants out of the matter for now.

I don't blame them. Its just excess intake of odourless fufu that makes mayorofekiti to defecate anyhow.
