Why Did INEC Include Jonathan's Discipline In The Presidential Aspirants' List? by oladayo042: 11:40am On Jan 15, 2015
When INEC published the list of presidential aspirants, many people focused on Buhari and his education (or lack thereof) but something else caught my attention: Why did INEC include Jonathan and Sambo's discipline and did not do the same for other aspirants?

Jonathan is just one among the five aspirants with Ph. D. degrees and Sambo is one of the two aspirants with M. Sc. degrees. Not that a Ph. D. in Zoology gives Jonathan any advantage nor will a M.Sc. in Architecture by Sambo give their ticket an edge, INEC must realise that all candidates are contesting as equals. All candidates should be treated the same way.

I am not sure if there is any law that says INEC should publish the displines of only the sitting president and his vice. One possible excuse by INEC would be that only Jonathan and Sambo filled in their disciplines in the INEC form, which doesn't sound very plausible to me. Out of the 28 aspirants (president and vice president), 19 have a Bachelors degree and above. So, it doesn't sound plausible that the remaining 17 aspirants did not fill in their disciplines.

When I was the electoral chairman in my university, I was made to understand that you must use the same font type, font size and color for the name of all aspirants, so as not to be accused of being partial. INEC must realize that it must not only be impartial, it must always show impartiality in everything at all times.

INEC made the same mistake again by putting in bold the names of the vice presidential candidates of APA and CPP, even though they are not the only females on the list. Their names warrant no bold font unless INEC does the same for all female aspirants. You only make bold what you want to call attention to.

INEC should get its acts right.

NB: I don't give a damn (in GEJ's voice) about any of the candidates.

Maybe that is the way the candidates filled it on their forms. I seriously doubt it if it is INEC that will write it out for them. There must have been a column for them to indicate their highest qualification. May INEC just did a verbatim copy of what they wrote there themselves.

Hassana Hassan is a regitered nurse and 'Nursing Cert and Midwifery' is her highest educational qualification, which coincidentally reveals her discipline. INEC did not put her discipline there because they wanted to. It would have been impossible for INEC to write just 'Certificate' as her qualification.

'Nursing Cert and Midwifery' as used by INEC in the list is not different from Cisco's CCNA, which is just a qualification but also reveals your discipline.

Use your brain for once. I even put it in my OP that "I don't give a damn (in GEJ's voice) about any of the candidates."

You'll notice that I included this as an probable excuse too.

It just doesn't sound plausible that the 17 aspirants with Bachelors degree and above will just fill in "B. Sc., B. A., M. Sc., Ph. D." without putting disciplines (Mechanical Engineering, Geology, etc.), unless they are ashamed of their disciplines. Since there is a space in the form for disciplines, which only Jonathan and Sambo proudly filled, how come the other 17 aspirants did not fill it? Since a copy of their certificate (which states their disciplines) is with INEC, how come the 17 'educated' non-incumbent aspirants did not fill in their disciplines into the form?

I still can't believe they did not fill in their disciplines.

You are not getting my point. If you are filling a form and you are asked your highest qualification. You can either write only the qualification OR you add the discipline with the qualification.

e.g
Highest qualification...................MSc
Highest qualification...................MSc Social Studies

Both answers are correct. Although, writing just MSc is more appropriate.

On most forms, they usually still request for Qualifications received with dates
If that is the case, here, definitely everyone will provide more detailed information like the discipline, the qualification awarded and the date it was given.

You said there is a place in the form for discipline. You are wrong. Look at the form again pls. There is no place for discipline, it only asked for qualification. And you can provide the answer either ways as I explained above.

Just like you said in that bolded part, INEC asked for educational qualification with dates.

This is a link to Form CF001 filled by all aspirants: http://www.inecnigeria.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/FORM-CF001-PERSONAL-PARTICULARS-30.11.10.pdf

Now tell me what you would have filled in Section C of this form.

I have tried to no avail to find a completed form by one of the aspirants. I still can't believe that 17 'educated' aspirants will just write "B.Sc. (1992) or Ph.D. (1995)" in that Section C without putting disciplines. If they included it, why did INEC not publish it like they did for Jonathan and Sambo?
