As per whether you won't eat at the "joint" you haven't even tried the noodles and you are criticising it.

imagine this, ur driving down ikoyi, would kemji's logo be eye catching enuff to make me pull over and see what the new joints about? Personally i've been thinking bout it too, it seems kinda too simple

the WOW!!! factor came in with the 3d models and the uniform, thats what won it,

no offense- i'm not trying to pull jabs at u kemji no vex but i feel the logo and the title dont really go together,to me the logo looks like a big steaming pot of Soup, and looks almost african,
so if it was titled "TASTY CARIBBEAN STATION"
" AFRICAN STATION" may have been better.


hey i aint saying my logo is perfect O! after all soji criticized my logo and i fixed it, and i'm sure other flaws may still be there. i take everything as constructive criticism.

As per being eye catchy, i think Kemji's logo is on the busy side. As an outdoor sign/logo, colour and not form is what catches the eye and it should be in the region of bright colours. A nice background and very simple text would be the kind of logo we are talking about. The text on Kemjis logo would be difficult to read from a distance. But honestly his logo works for the brand. Just a few tweaks and it's a hit.
Also as for the African theme to Kemjis logo, I see no problem with it. The restaurant would also sell African dishes won't they? I am guessing even the noodles would have an African touch to it. Design shouldn't always be "Show and Tell".
I must also say they look very good on the staff uniforms. Kemji, you suppose start clothing business.

Hard luck man. Your logo was tight though, but you'll agree it was a lil too complex for a brand logo (take a cue from the likes of Microsoft, Sony etc etc) You don't need another headache when reproducing the logo, or perhaps giving it to an artist to do a banner and stuff. Think of that in the next competition. Simplicity still works even in our complex world today.

Anyways, it's safe to say congrats man, you came in second best on that one i'll give you that!

Hi man, I know we're always on the wrong end of comments and advices, but I really appreciate your having my back on this one. You still are more experienced in the advertising business and so your opinion is ususally never biased! I know there may have been better entries than mine only if people took the deal more seriously. But it would only have challenged me more, to do something much bbetter! Kemjisuper ur designs r really good. And the 3d modeling is great too. looks like uv been in this sorta business b4. Congrats, i knew u had it in the bag the minute i peeped the logo, brilliantly crafted and simply decorated.

em, this is a "Joint" we are talking about right? not a restaurant. i want to believe there's a different between both. correct me if am wrong. so kemji's logo fits for a joint. and i like neo's logo. it's simple, fits a restaurant. to talk true, if there were judges in this competition, kemji would have been second. but its a one man show. 9years in the branding business or not, it still comes down to what u (the owner)likes. when it comes down to things like these it does'nt just come down to 'simplified and colourful logo' ur location is also very important. doest that logo fit well into ur area say for example u want to hang a billboard. what kind of people are u inviting in, yahoo boys or  business men. kemji's logo is very good but i can't blame boomtowner too, there were very few entries.

I have found out by painful experience that beauty is in the eye of the
beholder. I have dont exceptional designs in the past that was
rejected and had a very poor approved by the same client. So its not new
to have dissenting opiniions on this competition.

@kemji, my main man,

Dont be afraid of criticisms, no matter how you feel about them, they will
make you better each time. For me i love ya, not the logo, but i love ya
bro. and for me - if i were the judge - even if you didnt win cos of the design,
you sure would have got me because of your fine attitude. And really, that matters
alot in the world today, You are the best.

i must say that this is the best tread i've ever viewed on nairaland. the contest for one, though the response at first wasn't it, but its well understood since guys were trying to be sure of the reality of it, the maturity of the those that posted their designs and the way they handled the critics, the critics too were matured in doing that positively and you see posters adjusting their designs accordingly, the selection of the winner too,well announced. i'm really impressed.
i wished the winner was given the opportunity to be at the opening of the outfit alongside the prize money.
hope another one will come up soon,since i was not able to catch this until now cos i enjoy creating designs too.

Learn to respect people's personal opinion (especially the owner of the logo). I wonder how many logos would have survived if you were to be a worldwide critic. You don't like the logo just cos your friend (who may not know jack about art or graphics) said so. And you're preaching mediocrity?

But the fact reamains, my dear sister, beauty is really in the eye
of the beholder. It is not a poem, it is real. I dont think it sounds nice
to blast a work of art that is cherished by someone before his very eyes.
It suggests a lack of quality judgement on the part of the client.

So pls out of respect for Mr boomtower, let's not let our real opinions
out. I think if you had criticized the logo before it was approved, it would

dont listen, just a little, and pick something from what Gamine is saying, I
think there is something value you will miss. That everyone's giving
you the thumbs up is really not enough to say you at the top of the game, Many

But where's the advice in saying "I won't eat at that joint", "The logo is crap", "Mediocrity, mediocrity, mediocrity"

A good critic would tell you exactly why the logo is crappy, as well as what would make it better! I believe some others mentioned that. All Gamine had to say was she showed it to her girlfriend
