My toyota corolla consumes fuel highly than even Benz 190. I thought toyota is more fuel economical than benz 190 that was why I went for it. to my greatest suprise it is even worst. I hve changed the fuel pump hoping it will improve, but it didn't. Pls what is ur advice. what do u think is the cause.

There are gazillion reasons that can cause it. Start from the basics. What average mpg are u getting? What Tyre size and pressure? Have u scanned the car for codes? Do u have a check engine light on?

but seriously how did you determine that it is consuming more fuel? as for using the benz as a bench mark that is wrong. Rather look for someone who has a similar car and engine specification as yours then you can compare to a degree.

Also i would advice you to do a manual check of your average MPG, by filling your tank, zero your Odometer and at your next fill-up note the quantity of fuel used to refill your tank and the miles that you covered. Convert the liters to gallon and divide the miles with gallon used to get your average MPG. Compare this to the factory estimated MPG for both city and Highway. This should be a better indication of if your car is consuming fuel or not.

Note that the time you spend idling in traffic are also considered in the above method. Your driving style also says a lot too about your average MPG.

So get your facts first before assuming that the car is to blame.

my toyota 2001 model has that engine check light for over two years now,it goes off whenever I change the battery but comes back afterwards..my mechanic seems to be cool with it..please do u think there is something I should do to avoid any issue in future or is it cool,cos the car is giving me no issue.

I have used abou 4 toyota cars till date/ i can generally conclude that Toyotas conclude that Toyota cars consume more fuel than most other cars,at least comparing to d civic i once used/but interms of reliability and ruggednesss,Toyota stands out/pls quote me wrong
