Abagworo:

Why other ethnic groups fail to understand igbos is just one thing.tradition of origin.most ethnic groups originate from one ancestor.e.g. Yorubas-oduduwa,hausas-bayajida etc. In igboland however people inhabiting one small area might have ten proven distinct ancestors.the reason given by some people that they originate from benin is stupid because in almost every igbo village some people trace their lineage to benin, aro, ijaw, igala, ibibio and many other groups.it is hard for so many to believe but thats true.what defines igbo is just language.anyone that speaks any form of igbo language is igbo because there is no other method of determining who is igbo and who is not.
In theory, you may have a point, but in reality oppression from Hausa people and the Yorubas to an extent have served to solidify Igbo identity over the past 40 years.

The Negroid race is not Racist. If you look at the social compostion of your common Negroid you will discover that he is not color biased in a sense.

The problem with a Negroid is Class. In other to elevate himself he must been seen amongst a certain class. A negroid anywhere can do anything and everything to make you feel he is not down.

Even if a Negroid is poor he will put himself in a particular class. If a Negroid steals or lies He must do it in a PARTICULAR CLASS. Every class has its own Value.

The Nigerian Social class has one very easy and deceptive grouping called your ETHNIC group( I CALL IT THE PUN GROUPING). This class is the most dangerous when used as a tool. If your tribe has oil or any mineral resources you can Kill, Kidnapp and blow things up.

Did I hear you say what is my point? Ok There is a Legal way you can get what you want but in the same legal team you must have to set up are your political Class that must be seen to Defend the Ethnic Grouping. Ask me why is it that your governors are the biggest spenders. Travel outside nigeria and you will see your Governors spending like pop stars.

Governors from the oil areas that have their mouths in the big pie would have been the right people to fight for the state in the LAW COURTS. The political class they find themselves makes them forget the people and they only remember when there is agitation. So of the governors have Budgets of a billion dollars what have they done with the money.

Dont you see when the Law enforcers try to go after them what happens they are hailed as Ethnic heros and you see your CHIEF OBA EZE SULTAN standing to defend one of its Class members. They use the Media because the SUPER CLASS OWNS THE MEDIA and go into mud slinging.

THERE IS A SUPER CLASS AND IN THIS CLASS YOU HAVE THE ELITES THAT SHOULD BE SEEN TO FIGHT FOR THE LESS PRIVILEDGED OF THE LOWER CLASS WHERE YOU HAVE A DIVIDED ETHNICAL GROUPING THAT ARE EASILY DECEIVED THAT YOU DIFFERENT BECAUSE YOU SPEAK A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE.

THE ELITES CUT ACCROSS ALL THE ETHNIC GROUP AND KEEP THEIR STRANGLE HOLD ON THE LOWER CLASS. THE LOWER CLASS NEED TO ORGANISE THEMSELVES. THIS LOWER CLASS MUST BE THE CORE OF THE NEW NIGERIAN.

THE CORE OF THE LOWER CLASS SHOULD NOT BE LANGUAGE BUT ECONOMIC AND MORAL INDEPENDENCE. THE ELITES CANNOT SURVIVE FOR LONG IF THE LOWER CLASS IS KEPT UNDER IN ETHNOCENTRICSM.

IN A STATE YOU WILL HAVE WRONG DOING AND MISTAKES AND TO SAY X MADE A MISTAKE BECAUSE OF THE LANGUAGE HE SPEAKS THAT IS ETHNOCENTRICSM AND XENOPHOBIA OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.

THERE MUST BE THE EFFORT TO MAKE OURSELVES NIGERIANS FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS

I guess Ibime and Tamme will accuse me of trying to take over Ibibio, Annang, Oron, Efik ppl coz to me they are 1 people with different dialects. Language to me is what should unify people so I feel at ease with an Izza, Etche person even though his Igbo is different from what I speak.

Its unfortunate people like IBIME and TAMME are still stuck in their archaic cave man era when ethnic identity was more about ur town or clan not the language you speak. Its 2009 modern day people now base ethnicity on language / culture not some ancient stories about migration from Mesopotamia or whatever. Some people say Yoruba ppl came from Egypt. If that is the case then they are Egyptian and I dare to go to Egypy and file for citizenship. Get all their land and claim ownership of it. I dare them to find maps and pin point when where they left to arrive in present day Yoruba land.

No one got any concrete idea when and how they landed anywhere and should simply cut it and move on to the future not keep going back chasing shadows. What u are  now is what you are so whether some Awka ppl came from Enugu or Mount Kilimanjaro aint my palava. What dialect or language do they speak now? Awka - Igbo.
Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by Ibime(m): 10:29am On Feb 27, 2009
Quote from Osisi:

Older Igbo men  said that the picture of a typical Ijaw man and the riverine Igbos before the war was that a lazy labourer who drank kai kai from morning till night.
They were afraid of real work
Igbos did not take their jobs, they were simply allergic to work.
No wonder the thought of stolen goods from their more affluent, more hardworking cousins was to enticing to pass up.

So Ibime,Igbos did not take your jobs, the same things your youths are doing today, wanting to be paid for doing no work didn't start today. It started with your fathers back then.
You have to get your hands dirty to eat.
Your fore fathers may have traded in perm kennels and slaves but their offsprings sat around bearing funny names and waiting for handouts.
Who in their right minds will name a Child Goodhead and Blue Jaja?

More imperialist claptrap. Igbos implemented a public works scheme in PH, brought their Igbo brothers to work it, then claim the locals are lazy. Historically, Ijaws are known as stalwarts of trade. It is funny that as soon as the Eastern Region shifted to Enugu's hands, we suddenly became 'lazy' - a convenient excuse often used against marginalised people.

Ijaws have been going to school before the Igbo's. For them to stigmatise us as 'lazy' is laughable. For them to promote their less qualified brothers over us in our own city is criminal.

They almost completed the Igbolisation of PH but they did not succeed. PH is now firmly out of Igbo hands, not thanks to Federal Government, but this is the decision of PH indigenes.
Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by Ibime(m): 10:39am On Feb 27, 2009
Another mindless quote from Osisi:

BTW why are you talking of PH?
Ijaws should be talking of Bonny not PH
You folks are now a minority in Rivers state, most of you folks are in Bayelsa so you don't have any more claim to PH than an Owerri man.
It's not his state, neither is it yours.

I thought you also said Bonny was an Igbo land? grin grin grin

Don't worry, we will soon jump into the sea for you.

Anofia!
Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by Abagworo(m): 11:09am On Feb 27, 2009
@ibime.P.H. Issue is uncalled for.1)indigenes of ph are igbos(disputable).2)no okirika(disputable ijaw) inherits land inside ph apart from sand fills-abuloma,borokiri etc, and abandoned property which forms only 10% of the city.3)at least 60% of ph inhabitants today are south eastern igbos and so do they own the landed properties.4)ph is ikwerreland(disputable igbo)5)ikwerre is majority ethnic group in rivers state.6)ogba/egbema/ndoni produces most rivers oil per lga.7)combination of all igbo groups in rivers state makes 70% of population.

Nb i never claimed ph belonged to general igbos so dont try to deviate.PH IS IKWERRELAND(DISPUTABLE IGBO)

Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by Ibime(m): 11:39am On Feb 27, 2009
The only reason I brought up the Ndoki and Ahoada people was not to dispute their 'igboness', but to highlight that many of these tribes have varied histories and should be allowed the right to self-determination, regardless of what language they speak. If Ndoki people are Igbos, no one really cares as long as THEY CHOOSE to identify themselves as Igbos. If Ikwerre people CHOOSE NOT to identify themselves as Igbos, what makes them different from Okrika people who also speak Igbo widely, but are Ijaws? or Opobo people or Bonny people? We have Calabar people in Andoni and Opobo area but we do not force them to accept Ijaw nationality.

@ Abagworo

How can Okrika (anglicised from Wakirike) be disputable Ijaw? You nor well! It behooves you to inquire from an Okrika man before making such inane comments.

No body is arguing that 60% of PH is not Ikwerre land (disputable igbo).

But I hope you know that Ikwerre land has no access to the sea.  grin

If Igbo's want a seaport, we can easily give them one, but it is not by gra-gra. Ijaws are historically know for giving land to persecuted tribes who need it. The Ogoni's provide just such an example. Half of Okrika is land given to fleeing tribes.

Please, it is not by gra-gra and forced annexation. We can be diplomatic about these things.

The Igbo's need to learn the art of diplomacy. They should learn how to give power in order to keep power. The Fulani people should provide a good example of this. The Fulani are a seperate people from the Hausa, yet they live as one of them, speak their language, whilst still controlling the power-structure of Hausa society. This is diplomacy at it's finest. The Fulanis have conquered lands throughout West Africa and up to present day Sudan and have experience in these matters. The Igbo's are not ready to lead an Empire at this stage with their gra-gra ways. If Igbo's present a valid, diplomatic and organised front, within 100 years, the whole of Southern Nigeria will acquiesce to Igbo rule.

Even if we all agree that Igbos lack diplomacy, want to colonize all of Nigeria, hate Ijaws; are those enough reasons to forcefully take Igbo properties from them. You've really not addressed the issue of abandoned property propagated by Ijaws.
Re: Why Igbos And Ijaws Must Unite by Ibime(m): 3:42pm On Feb 27, 2009
What does this debate have to do with abandoned property? Even here in London, homeless squatters move into abandoned properties and it can take years to legally move them out. There is no war situation where people will abandon property where others will not move in. With all the bombing going on in PH those days, Housing was in short supply and any 'new' property on the market would be quickly occupied. grin

My family also abandoned property in Asaba. Did we get it back? Abeg, if you have an abandoned property, seek legal recourse to reclaim your land, not using it as an excuse to propagate division. You can call the 'abandoned property' syndrome a symbol of 'long throat' or you can call it a retribution or a revolution against the oppressive classes. Pick one, it doesn't really matter to me.

Have you guys gone to ask for your abandoned property in the North?

You obviously haven't been following.
Ijaws stole Igbo property and PH is the only place Igbos lost property totally or had to go through hoops to get them because that's what the awusa man promised the lazy labourers.
"help me win Biafra and I'll give you their homes"
Igbos got back their property in northern and western Nigeria very easily.
Your folks were the ones with sticky fingers and clung like parasites and leaches unto people's sweat.

Someone was saddened because I called Ijaws lazy.
Well see how their young men are running around in canoes demanding heaven and earth from the federal; government.
Now would you believe that these same Ijaw youths that cry marginalization were given jobs and they turned around and "subletted" the jobs to Igbos for a fee?
yes I said it and it's documented in an article.
Their young men would rather run around in AK 47,s,chase women and drink gin than work.
They gave the jobs to Igbos who would give them a portion of the wages.
Now does that sound like a people that like to work?
The average Ijaw man is said to be very lazy and their youths in 2009 have proven this.

The cries of a dead man

I was a graduate student when the cataclysmic events of 1966 happened. Apart from my revulsion at the needless murders of the innocent, nothing upset me more than Ojukwu's dishonest formulations and his attempt to kidnap the Ogoni, among others, into his Igbo empire called "biafra." I knew that he pinned his hopes of the economic viability of "biafra" on the oil of the Ogoni and the Ijaw. I rebelled. I became Secretary of a small committee which met nights in Port Harcourt and issued a communiqué calling on Gowon to create a Rivers State by decree.

When, by sheer quirk of fortune, this happened in 1967, I abandoned family and caution, crossed the fighting lines and found myself in Lagos. There I became a member of something called the Interim Advisory Council of Rivers State and, subsequently, Administrator for Bonny. I returned to the war front and struck up friendships with gentlemen like Sani Bello who comes from Kontagora, Akinrinade from Ife, Obasanjo from Abeokuta, Yakubu Danjuma from Takum, Dan Ato, now deceased, from Bida. I had reason to hope that my nightmare as an Ogoni in Nigeria was about to end.

With the war ended, and as a Commissioner in Rivers State, I soon found that the Rivers State for which I had fought did not end my nightmare. In the first place, oil money from Ogoni country (as well as Ijaw country) was being carted away to Lagos, leaving the Ogoni illiterate and backward. This is anti-federalism. Worse still, the Ijaws were taking their frustrations out on the non-Ijaws of the State. For the Ijaws alone number more than the eight other ethnic groups in Rivers State put together. Though historically disunited, the Ijaws find unity when it comes to lording it over the non-Ijaws. The Ijaws will want to perpetuate this. Today, there is not even a Commission from my Local Government Area in the Rivers State Cabinet such as it is. My dilemma as an Ogoni is not about to end.

http://www.nigerdeltacongress.com/articles/Awo%20and%20the%20Creation%20of%20States.htm

Well it quite clear that when given the POWER Ijaw folks who accuse Igbos of being evil aint any better. When given the majority power the smaller groups get oppessed by Ijaw leaders too. Abeg practice what u preach. U have an Ogoni man accusing u of oppression but a few years ago he fought with u against Igbos.

Ijaws have no moral right to cast aspersions on Igbos.

Even when Rivers was in their full control Ikwerre ppl had no voice and were marginalized by the Ijaw.

Go check urselves 1st b4 spewing garbage about Igbos. U aint better.

Truth of the matter is that our leaders have wronged each other at one point and we gotta do better.

THERE IS NO MORAL JUSTIFICATION FOR OCCUPYING ANOTHER MAN'S LAND JUST COZ U ARE HOMELESS AND REFUSING TO GET OUT WHEN HE IS THERE TO MOVE BACK IN.

Ibime you have no moral principle. Right is Right. Wrong is Wrong and u need to tell the truth regardless of ethnic affiliation.

IF IGBOS DID IT TO IJAW YOU WILL BE HERE SPEAKING AGAINST IT SO DON'T ACT LIKE ITS A NORMAL THING. ITS NOT.
