D set up is like charging ur fone with a desktop charger.Connect d smart charger's terminals to d ba3,link out d ups terminals to d ba3 too.I suggest u get an extension socket to b plugged at d back of d ups.Connect d charger to NEPA but d issue is how to know wen d ba3 is fully charged unless d smart charger is smart enough to possess ba3 full indicator,if not please get a mini volt meter sold at 400 naira to read d ba3's voltage section by turning d nob to left at 20v.During charging check at intervals till it full charge at 15V.Howeve,make sure u don't use d ba3 till death.Discharge it up to a safe level say 10.5V or 11V,den ccharge again.Since there is an external charger already I think u don't need to plug d ups to NEPA.DONT OVER LOAD D BA3 WITH PLENTY APPLIANCES.Now u can plug ur TV etc to d extension socket.

very true, but that cant be a problem, my mini audio amplifyer keeps over heating and always burns the sound ic, all i did was go to oshodi and bought a 12v small fan ,connected it to one big capacitor inside, i glued the small fan insid the amplifyer and covered ane screwed it. If i put on the audio amplifyer ane the fan start spinning and cooling the ic and transformer, u can do same if feel ur ups will overheat, just go to oshodi, get a sizable fan that will sit inside ur ups comfortably, conect the fan to the big capacitor and face the fan directly at the ups transformer , if u cant do it, look for any electrician in oshodi market, dem plenty, dem no go charge u pass 200naira unless dem see say u be novice, buy the fan ur self first

for those who want to connect their batteries in pararell connection
if u have a 100ah battery and u feel u need longer time on ur battery u can buy 1 or 2 more 100ah batteries and connect in pararell. There are two types of battery connection to an inverter or ups (series connection and pararell connection)
like mine, i have (2) 12v 18ah and ( 2) 12v 42ah and (1) 12v 40ah
18+18+42+42+40= 160ah is what i have.
My connection is in pararell cos my ups uses just one battery, series connection is for ups that uses 2 batteries inside, pararell connection wont work on ups that uses 2 batteries and if u connect batteries in series to a ups that uses one battery, that ups will blow up and die
See photo below on hw to connect in pararell.
All photo are in pararell connection, look closely to the cable that goes to the charger or to ur ups
Please read carefully from this link below to understand better

If u connect 2 or more batteries in pararell to ur ups or charger ,to avoid one battery fully charged before the other or 1 battery supplying power more than the other instead of supplying equally at same time,
SOLUTION: after connecting the batteries in pararell ,
battery A (black wire) goes to ups black.
Battery B (red wire) goes to ups,
same applies to charging,
ur 2 batteries supplies current evenlly to the ups and charges evenlly too.
Na that site i learn am 7months ago, when i discovered dat one battery dey die before the other,

pls sir, wen i buy d 20amps ba3 charger do i need to do any special settings? like where do i turn d knob to? secondly, from d pic u showed on how to connect in parallel, will d ups cable also be connected to d same terminal d battery charger is connected on the battery? i ask to avoid wrong connection.

if u have a 40ah and below battery , u wil set the knob to 40, if u have above 40-80-100ah, u will set the knob to 80-100ah and if u have 120ah and above battery, u set at 120ah.
But if u have a 40ah battery and u set the knob to 80-100ah, the charger will charge that 40ah faster.
Yes on ur second question
buy a 2.5mm flexible wire at oshodi, one yard is 200naira, buy in red and black color so that u dont mistakenly connect wrongly, if u connect it wrong ,that ups is gone but the smart charge will be ok because it has
reverse protection
and so on, get more info from the chargers manual

overheat protect
short circuit protect
Low pressure protect
reverse protection

the 650va ups will do the job.
20amp smart charger= 7k
200ah battery= 30k
black and red wire and celotape = 300naira
if u have extra cash like 3 to 5k u can buy a brand new standing fan of 35watts or below to get more time and get an energy savings bulb of 15watts each and switch off the ones u are not using
Please dont plug the industrial fans to it, big or small industrial fans like OX etc , should not be plugged to the ups

I just cant thank de op enough and all who have contributed so far. My question is
(1) is there any effects of charging de battery with low current. or effects on de charger, cause wr have been having steady low current in my own side here in Owerri.
(2) can anyone or de op show a sample of the ups to use, since some ups are better than others.and op made mention of ups that can indicate when de battery is down.
(3)i intend buying a new battery how can someone know original and fake batteries.
Sorry for de many question guys.

I was at Oshodi today and met with the guy: he was just too quiet. He however told me that he has only 65ah battery- which he showed me. I wasn't pleased with the battery because from my little knowledge of batteries, I think such Lead-Acid batteries might discharge fast. There was a warning inscription on the battery stating clearly " DO NOT CHARGE IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE" - Then I remembered I read something about such batteries releasing HIGHLY inflammable gases, so I declined buying it. Eventually, and to cut the long story short, I bought the 10watt fan from him. He bluntly refused selling it for 1,800, rather he sold it 2k.

Let me at this point state that I have been on a similar project before stumbling into this thread - and have, as a matter of fact, completed it today. I used a 150Watt inverter (I never knew a 650va UPS could be used as I had one that I actually wasn't using at home, and that would have saved me some cash). Anyway, I bought the 150watt inverter for 3k on Olx, and also bought a 100AH (used) from the same guy for 10k. I got a 10Amps charger for 9k from another guy who works at Alaba and a tiny (probably the smallest size change-over switch to enable me switch between charging and discharging with the charger and inverter respectively, because I hate having to tough the Aligator clips every now and then - fear That i might fumble with it and it goes boom - explosion..lol!). I had everything systematically and neatly arranged on a ply-wood and hung it near my PHCN power source smiley

I have wired 6 numbers of 5watt bulb (two at my sitting room and 1 at every other room, kitchen and bath)...The thing chop almost 2k flexible wire sha!the wire spanned from the inverter to all lamp holders. All the lights DO NOT come on at the same time bacause I connected small N50 naira switches to each of them. I got Phillips 5watt energy bulbs 80naira each. Wires were ALL neatly tucked to avoid clumsy swirling of wired everywhere - which I hate with passion. I also have wired it to carry my lap-top and the 10 watt fan..... so far, so good..everything working perfectly. I will upload pictures soon.

nice, but make sure all ur appliances like fridge and ceiling fan and pressing iron and water pumping machine are not connected to the inverter change over switch , i think 650va ups are 390watts and some are 400watts like apc ups, ur inverter is just 150watts so please dont overload, and u could have bought a 20amp smart charger instead of 10amp,
i'm still waiting for nairalanders that already have their setup ready to comment,
pato405, good work, so 5watt energy saving bulb dey? Make i go find am buy ,na 15watts i dey see

Sorry for de many question guys.

(1) low current dosent affect the smart charge, the least it will do is not charge until the current increases a bit,
(2) any 650va ups will do but buy 650va matron or bluegate, its only the latest model maxtron and bluegate that has the function of beeping for some seconds then stop, the next it beeps again is when the battery is weak , other ups will beep continiously slow but when battery is weak, they start beeping faster, but u can cover the top of the beeper to reduce the ups noise,
(3) about the battery issue na God go save us, fakes plenty, thats why i sticked to buying from two people, like used batteries dey of different grades and price, i bought my 42ah battery for 6k and another nairalander bought 39.6ah for 8k. It depends on sellers ane grade, shebi the poster above bought 10amp charger for 9k when some of us bought 20amp charger for 7k.
