That your friend's mum and their family live in face me I face you doesn't mean all corn and yan seller lives like that... Moreover this woman was probably living there in one of those houses too while she was building this house of hers in pains and sacrifice... My brother a wise man once said " man when dey drink garri get plans... Moreover, corn is seasonal meaning only you are a wise planner you won't make much from it.

Nope, thats not how real life works. Aman that drinks garri probaby has only garri. If you become a millionaire tomorrow in your face me ii face you, will you keep living there? You will be robbed sef on the spot. The more income we make, the higher we get scared for our safety.

Its unfortunate that we like to live in a dream world.

I doubt if this will be any news to anybody that knows the woman that raosts corn at GRA Onitsha, near Benjen Inn. The woman now has corn roasting spots where her children are also doing so. She also has workers that work for her in corn roasting business. She is now a big landlady

That's how a big business work. Now compare it to one woman who has been roasting corn in one location all her life versus the woman who has income flowing from all directions.

You are now making it personal. This is a purely business discussion. If you dont have anything to contribute then leave. Why make i personal.
bros I'm not taking it personal. I'm wondering why you have to start analyzing how much she made, the cost and so on. instead of appreciating what she did. obviously its not only from corn she made the money but she stated that her MAIN income is from corn

i dont believe this story, may be the op just want to encourage/motivate people to be hardworking but the analysis of a corn seller building a four bedroom is impracticable unless there are other sources of income; selling or making sachet water would have been a better example not corn...
well I believe the story because I know someone too here in Onitsha who has achieved more than just 4bedroom from corn roasting. She now has corn roasting spots scattered across Onitsha.

The issue is that anyone who becomes diligent in what he/she does can achieve anything. However it might take time. Hard work pays and it will pay more when you add smartness (not cheating) and honesty to what you do.

When people shout no job, I laugh because if one can kill ego and pride that person will see himself flying high.

So why do corn/yam sellers live in impoverished areas? Their kids go to free public schools. Why arent corn sellers living in lekki with the millions they're making? In short, one of my friends mum sells yam and such, they live in face me i face you, she goes hungry in the uni etc.

Why dont corn sellers improve their lives with 400k per month.

Locations matter in engaging in this type of businesses. Why did banks don't open their branch in close places rather in open places so many have a good business idea but location cheats on them.
Re: Meet The Nigerian Woman That Built 4 Bedroom Flat From Roasted Corn Business by DedeNkem: 8:41am On Aug 14, 2015
There's absolutely no way to prove it. She didn't state how much the house cost. Not all 4 bedroom apartments are of the same quality.

Selling corn only, can't get you enough money to take care of yourself and build a good 4-bedroom apartment in your life time, unless you sell roasted corn in industrial quantity per day that makes you a lot of profit, which is almost impossible because your're not the only one in the business.

There are other things to consider;
- family food expenses.
- house rent.
- children school fees and their upkeep.
- other expected and unexpected expenses.
- location matters a lot.
- corn is a perishable product and customers prefer fresh ones.
- corn is seasonal not available year round.
- can't always make targeted amount per day.

She made it clear that selling roasted corn is not her only biz.

I stand to disprove you my dear. I have a cousin who sells corn at Berger bus stop at Ojodu. She rakes in close to N20k daily during the season. Her proceeds from corn is what pays her children school fees and feeds the family of seven during off season. In PH where I live, I also know women who make more than this. Please be it known to you that so many seemingly low class businesses you might chose to look down on actually makes more money than u think. Most fruit sellers ad noble sellers in PH have built houses. Go confirm
.

Family of seven? If only she had just one or two kids, she would have faired very well.

You are only confusing yourself... A wise man is a man that can differentiate wants from needs.. The lady in question isn't a millionaire.. She is just a person that earns reasonably well from a seasonal business, that doesn't make her a millionaire... People like her bank on daily contributions as their only source of savings... So they still go back to their humble life while planning ahead... And the irony of it all is after suffering from these sacrifices, people like you will find it difficult to believe the source of their little possessions and start questioning them

well many people can't manage other people so they suffer even while making some gain. Others understand how to use others to achieve their goal while those they use also achieve theirs.

Back to your point. The person that stays in one location probably do not have trust on people or she does not know how to expand her business.

The woman that expanded her business is because she has a bigger dream other than just been seeing as a corn roaster. She is now seeing and known as an entrepreneur.

I also met another woman at Aladimma in Owerri when I went to a conference there in 2010. Big boys and girls were coming there to buy corn. That was my first time of seeing what business is hidden in what people call nothing.

The thing is this. How far we can go in life is not dependent on how much we were given but how much we can manage what we were given either in cash or is talent

90k per month Why isnt everybody selling corn then?

U are not selling corn because u don't know there's money in it and most importantly u de form big boy.

See eh, buying and selling is a solid business, just that people over look it. Dose phone pouch we buy for 300 - 1000 in Nigeria are sold for 10 - 60 naira in China.
People into phone accessory make extreme profits in it.

There are different types of four bedroom houses my brother.. So if I were you I won't discard the story until I see the type the woman built... And It's funny u think a sachet water seller earns more money than a diligent corn seller...

The topic is misleading , its not possible to build a house from roasting. Corn because corn is a seasonal business . thank God she stated that she is a caterer and also a fashion designer ,

just because The Op wants to make FP he decides to write a False topic that doesn't reveal the true story.

We all know how much corn is sold and how much building a house will cost.
una too like argue for nairaland i know a lady that built a bungalow from corn biz. the thing about biz is " identify a need and meet it" have good customer relationship that will make one move from festac to ikeja just to buy from you. the lady im talking about has all that and more.

That's why i would say NOT ALL WOMEN are bad... You want to give up cos you have been dealt with by a daughter of Eve and you would just see one that is an inspiration! Kudos ma'am.

And to those who are complete but resort to begging and beggerly tricks-LEARN. Like seriously, come to Ikeja in lagos and you will be tripped at complete, well-fed women and men begging to the point of making you feel like Satan when you ignore them. One day, I would break one of them's neck!

She is short and fair in complexion and goes about with a pack of envelopes with a deaf and dumb identity in Ikeja "under bridge" (just by computer village).

The day i saw her talking to someone, I WAS JUST SHOCKED!!! She smartly (as soon as i saw her) starts behaving like im a bad person, trying (in the sign languages) to convince other beggars and hawkers that im a bad person.

I believe, if a corn seller gets the maize supplies from a farm at a cheap rate, (s)he can make avg profit of n20/ one roasted corn, and can sell over 500 corns from morning to evening. 20 * 500 = 10,000 daily

10,000 naira daily no be joke o. in a month, with 25roasting days, that is 250,000naira. The location of the business is very important sha.

Even a single woman who has no kids CAN'T build a 4 bedroom apartment by ONLY selling roasted corn by the roadside. Do the maths.

Yeah. but, the op made it sound like the main source of her income was roasting corn. Come on man; think. You live in Nigeria. Do you actually think it's possible to build a 4 leveled bldg doing just that? So, she would not pay rent, feed herself, clothe herself. How much would roasting corn generate a day? If there was mention of a franchise i would probably believe it, but that in itself is not possible. roasted corn can be bought anywhere which would defeat the purpose of a franchise. If you believe it then good for you. The problem with NL is people just post nonsense topics every day with no verifiable source and almost everyone swallows it hook, line and sinker. I got one for you. "MEET THE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER WHO BOUGHT A ROLLS ROYCE WITH HIS SALARY" Please tell me you believe that.
