She stated that she only sells corn during the corn season and works as a caterer and fashion designer during the on-season.

Selling corn obviously isnt her main source of income. She also is apparently married so she might be able to save some money on that end, hubby providing for her.

She also didnt state the location of the house and how much it costs. It could have been at a very cheap and extreme location, which is not bad.

We need to know the full details

I love happy stories and i am proud of her for being able to overcome her challenges but lets be realistic.

If you make 10,000 naira in profit a month from selling corn ( slight exagerration). I dont see how can eat, pay rent and bills and still be able to build a house with such income. It will take years of extreme saving.

Op should probably retitle.

EDIT:
A lot of people are mentioning me and telling me that corn-sellers make 20k daily, 400,000 naira a month
Please nairalanders , quit your Job and start selling corn.
My 2 cents

Helllloooooo, whether or nt there is a hubby dat supports d wife,if der's any biz dat is profitable it is dis corn biz either roasted or cooked.it may luk so common in d eyes of many but as common as it is,it is very profitable.

That Nigerian spirit is typically cowardly....Of a people in the midst of plenty wallowing in poverty. Of a people who'd rather play the ethnic card than come together to fight nepotism, tyranny and feudalism. Of a people who'd resigned to a life of permanent ignominy.

Come off it! There's nothing to be proud of in what u wrote!

I'm not saying d life majority of Nigerians are living is good. I'm just praising our ability to surmount all odds and come out smiling. Now imagine the government is responsible. With this indomitable spirit of ours, walahi, d sky will be our stepping stone.

the Nigerian spirit symbolises thriving in adversity? What would u have them do? Stay @ home because the government who are suppossed to make things a lil better are only concerned with how to loot the commonwealth?

Anything you are doing with all seriousness and passion will definitely grow to an extent you can not imagine. It is possible to use a proceed from corn to build a house. I have seen a woman selling akara to train her son as a medical doctor.

bros I'm not taking it personal. I'm wondering why you have to start analyzing how much she made, the cost and so on. instead of appreciating what she did. obviously its not only from corn she made the money but she stated that her MAIN income is from corn

I personally know a woman who sponsored her children in school from the proceeds of her Akara business...

Today, the first son is a doctor cheesy
Second son will soon be an Engineer.
She no longer sells Akara kiss

Sorry to say, my brother, but selling akara alone can never train a child in the medical school. She obviously had relations who supported their education, especially seeing that the children had potentials.

I think therre is more to this story, maybe the woman has been into this business for years, she may have seasonal contract to supply roasted corn to some clients, she has other sources of income(mentioned). Misleading titles like this can make someone live with false expectations, how easy is it to build a four bedroom flat from roasting corn? OP it would have been nice if you had mentioned the sacrifices she had to go through to get to this stage. I don't know why entrepreneurs will keep hiding the fact that most times, you work even harder running your own business than you would working for someone else(nothing bad in this). Kudos to the lady.

Congrats to the lady

the aim of d thread is not to seek for opinion cus d woman in question is not the owner of thread, she may not even be a member of this forum. but the objective is to enlighten us that its possible to achieve much even with little beginning and not to despise or under rate what you can achive. she may have so many shops and even people working for her but she doesn't have to give all this details.

How much does it cost to build 4 bedroom bungalow?

It's hard to calculate because of location, whether she already had land or not, the location soil quality, surveyor, etc.
Let's assume every other has been taken care of and it remains actual building of the 4 bedroom bungalow. For basic finishings, the cost will be around 5 - 6 million naira.

Do the math.
