I have attended an Islamic class while studying overseas and it was mostly about the history of Islam and the Quran. There were other Christians in the class and we were open to share our views. Some of the Muslims classmates were really sensitive and others were really cool- I was mostly impressed by 2 brothers from Yemen who were the most open minded Muslims I have come in contact with.

We did a project on the contribution of Islam in the science world, Abortion in Islam and the racism against Muslims propagated by the media.

I will encourage any devoted Christian to take an Islamic study course, you will learn alot about them and you will appreciate a Muslim after interacting with them with an open mind. You have no right to judge and it will do you good to be open minded.

If you have a problem exchanging ideas with people of other cultures and religion, then you have no business going to school. If you can not question what you believe then you are not really a Christian and you have not experience Christ-most Nigerian Christians fall into this category like the person posting this.

If you convert to Islam after attending a Islamic study class, it shows you are human indeed and you are an independent thinker-your pastor or society cannot control you. A christian who can not stand the opinions of others is no christian at all or you are an immature spiritual retard.

I will do business with a Muslim any day than a Nigerian christian.Don't take it personal, I am writing from my experience growing up in the church.

Please take the class and you will not regret it. Hopefully, the lecturer is well rounded and not the stupid, egotist average Nigerian lecturer.

My candid advise for you is to be focussed on what you are offered. Studying a particular course has nothing to do with your religion.
Moreso, you might likely be the best in the department .
I wish to tell you that my first IRK teacher happened to be a christian and very sound indeed.
Secondly, we have an erudite Christian professor of Arabic in faculty of Art , LASU that distinct his religion from his profession.
Thirdly, a conscious Muslim brother who never absence from Masjid for salat also studied CRK in AOCOED and he's presently a lecturer in the department.

Finally , have an open mind to study the course may be you can contribute your quota to change the negative impression people have about Islam.

I WISH YOU BEST OF LUCK .
these are the kinds of comments i needed to edify and build up and not some useless comments that am seeing being posted by some ignorant minds. Thanks man

As a trained pastor, one area of theology that is of interest to me is Islamic Studies. It has nothing with being born again because it is just a study. When you have a matured mind, it will born affect your original faith.Benefits:interreligious dialogue, ability to persuade a Muslim to accept Christianity, Christian Apologetics, you can latter convert to study law it will give you added advantage

Its one the evil agenda of some northern Universities, though your sister did not meet up the requirement she should not fall for this because her future career would still be dependent on them and they would treat her the way they like if she refused to join them.

She should not take that course if she really know the God she serves. Delay in God's side is never a frustration, one with God's conviction is better off of numerous ungodly opinions. Believe God and pray He's got something for u. Get the revelation.

She should keep her job prospects in mind. There is nothing to studying islamic studies.
ministry of education, she could be a teacher, a lecturer, she could even work anywher provided she has her B.A (HONS) Islamic Studies. Just have the certificate now and see yourself in any company receiving gargantuan amount of money that makes you smiling to the bank monthly

how old are you? By the way before you become president or first lady which could be after 10-20 years. Before then Jesus will convert you to become a Saint. Your hatred towards religion will be all history. Only time will tell. I trust my God

From choosing Law to contemplating Islamic studies shocked ! Your cousin paints a picture of the typical Nigerian youth who just craves a University degree even if it's BSc in garri drinking. I doubt if she'll even make it into Law school or manage to graduate from one if she had passed the Post-UTME.

Why the rush into University by the way ? She can learn one of these important skills: Tailoring a.k.a Fashion Designing, Hair Dressing, Event planning e.t.c while waiting to retake the exam next year for Law. She might end up earning her paychecks from the above skills than that paper certificate.

you are just talking trash...

I think you get me wrong. I am fully in support of her studying Islamic studies. I would also give the same advice to someone studying industrial physics in Nigeria. Job prospects! Job prospects!! That is what is paramount. Especially with all the ethno-religious tensions going on in Nigeria.

What pain is the chap talking of? Those that have rushed into the University and graduated, how many of them have had jobs? How many had jobs in their 1st,2nd or 3rd year?Take it from someone who has real life experience, if you want something(LAW) seat your a.ss down and work towards it, not settling for lesser alternatives(Religious studies).

No where in my post did I indicate that she should waste her life doing nothing, which I presume you youths do these days, while waiting to retake the exam. She was advised to learn a skill. You are not going to burst into the over-saturated job market with zero skill and a paper certificate and expect to start making money just like that.

Are you always this dull and myopic when reading other people's comment on Nairaland?

A fellow in our church converted to Islam after exposing himself indiscriminately to the Quran. Paul admonished the believers that evil communication corrupts good manners. Taking up Islamic studies as a course implies embracing it with openness of heart and admiration, if she indeed wants to be relevant in it thereafter. Studying to master a course is different from studying to counter a course. A friend said he converted to Christianity having studied the bible with a sinister intention -to critique it's correctness- from Islam. It takes a mature and die -hard believer to go to the gates of hell and rescue the captives thereat. But for your sister, hell no. In fact, it's gonna be a disappointment to heaven if she falls for such a minor trial. It's the last days when acquisition is over-rated. I've never been to a university yet I've assisted undergraduates a few times. I teach in a high school and have made money from the profession. My students esteem me highly, whereas my fame has been quite unrestrained. I can't imagine Paul or Peter or Christ, whose footsteps we follow, submit themselves to such alternative. We're to reach out to the lost wisely..'others save with FEAR hating even the garment spotted with the flesh..' Plus, 'he that is an heretic reject after the first and second admonition'.. So you see, there's no biblical full-time business of teaching *infidels the scriptures not to talk of teaching them what we know is shocking blasphemy.. REED is my name
you're a man... I commend you bro.

I really wouldn't worry about it. I have studied Islam, read the Quran along with hundreds of the hadiths and large parts of the tafsir and sirah. There is much to criticise in this religion, and a little internet research goes a long way. I've also studied other religions extensively. None of it has affected my position as an atheist in the slightest. If she is truly convinced of her Christianity then studying Islam isn't going to change anything.

Her story is like someone that want to collect child from mummy water or ogbanje spirit because she can no longer wait for her creator after three years of marriage. (Psa_137:4 How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?).

My sister, it's better you wait upon the Lord for direction. Jesus is Lord.

nigerian youth are so naive, studying a course is not equivalent to believe.
The best islamic professors in the west r either atheist or "westernized" christians, who learn islam with a passion unlike dat of most of its hardline followers. If she chooses to learn about islamic studies, there r jobs for her, in analysis, religious affairs, teaching, n lots more , particularly with these global "war on terror".
There is tons she can do, if i have such an offer i wuld ave done it myself but i never did.
And with de stupid comments on conversion, nobody was born a muslim nor christian, so changing shldnt be anymore of a fuss than necessary.
Thank you
