They should realise that MTN has already made their profit in Nigeria. Most of the top level management now has been handed over to Nigerians. The owners are now in south africa recieving reports on returns. They are even about to list on Nigerian stock exchange.

So whatever fine you give them, will still affect Nigerians. They will lay off Nigerian staff to meet up.

Though NCC and the ogas in abuja will share the money, but some Nigerians with families will loose their jobs in this harsh economy. Will NCC employ them?

When i hear people say chase MTN out, i laugh. MTN has left Nigeria, anything you do to MTN now, it is Nigerians that suffer it.

Really madam/oga? are you aware that mtn lays off thousnads regularly or at slightest excuse? Have you approched any other staf on working conditions.........they make their money by defrauding subscribers via tariffs, promotions, deducting your money for stupid reasons inclusing caller tune that you never asked for.

we need to clip their wings to be an animal on ground only

to be sincere, MTN tried..

what i found annoying about them was their spam msgs and deduction of your credit when browsing, even when you have a valid subscribtion..
I thought I was the only one o not until I met a lady about a week ago having the same challenge. I have spoken with so many customer care reps to no avail. The worst part of it is that my mb runs like madt even without downloading nada. Just yesterday I subscribed for a monthly bundle and was expecting my initial daily bundle to be rolled over, only for me to be told they are different packages and as such cannot be rolled over. I don't get the use of having a running data when your credit will still be deducted alongside. The trick I use now is NO CREDIT ON THE PHONE WHEN THERE'S A RUNNING DATA. But for how long will this continue. You receive unauthorised SMS on your phone screen that they know you can unknowingly click the OK button. It was better when the messages were coming into one's inbox. Now it appears on one's screen. IT'S REALLY APPALLING!

Bros they are outta the job already. Didnt you hear about the 67% cut in salaries of their contract customer care staff? It wasnt even a negotiation, it was a mandate. Most of those contract companies in lagos have packed up and those who cant survive on 30k/month and yet relocate are already out of the job. They(mtn) even wanna replace them with school cert holders and indian and chinese cheap labour... smh. I just pity those affected.

Please DSTV should be next . But that fine is way too much, these NCC guys dey vex gan !! Is it not Nigeria? If MTN should play their cards well, meet the right people, they will end up paying only a quarter of that money.
all thanks to KWARUPTION

Even if MTN has fail in the directive of NCC,it is not the only company to so in Nigeria.
One of the main reasons they target MTN is simply because it is a foreign company which is not influenced by certain group of people.
The never believed they would become this sucessful, unlike political transcrop which could not run Nitel successfully.
They though it was about buying assessts, now they they understand that assesst without management policy is trash.
Why not glo or etisalat on the news. What about the oil companies, this is all politics.
MTN has done more good than harm compared to other companies in Nigeria. It has provided jobs, connectivity and made life easier for Nigerians.
The amount is unrealistic,Nigerian politicians destroy anything that they cannot gain from or control directly.

You have made some valid points bro and I agree to a certain degree, however MTN failed with carrying out simple direct orders centred on security of a nation and that in itself is a huge offence. The fine is outrageous and i am sure it Will be negotiated. The positives of these sanctions hinges on deterrence and a call to improved service delivery in the telecom sector.

Their customers should not be surprised when their credit starts have wings and start flying... FYI, don't leave you credit over night, whatever you see, just know you are contributing to the part of paying off the debt.
Re: Ending Mtn's Impunity by adeoluakin: 10:23am On Oct 29, 2015
Hmmm, considering Nigeria is trying to look good for foreign investment what kind of message does this send though. Economically, even mtn till date has contributed in trillions to Nigeria's economy through tax and investment what impact will this fines now have.

Big picture.

The most annoying is been charged while on wifi. How stvpid can they be? They expect you to send dataoff before u can you see a wifi connection

Imagine u use wifi at work and ur data while on the move/at home. That means you will be sending data off everyday.

fvck them mehn
Glad i ported

What temerity! MTN Nigeria flagrantly disobeys extant rules and regulations and unapologetically proceed to challenge the regulator!! There appears to be only one explanation for this: The Regulator is so massively compromised MTN knows it need not lift a finger to protect its interests in the face of the proven infractions as it is sure NCC top dogs and their government co-travellers are certain to go down with it if no reprieve comes its way. Sincerely hope am wrong about this!

What is surprising is that people claim that MTN is
ripping them off yet they are too scared to port
to another network.
That tells me that MTN is doing many things right otherwise they will
have lost most of their subscribers.

I believe all this attacks on MTN is just to put them on their toes
not that they are the worst network as they are being portrayed.

Why will anyone want to stick with an alleged oppressive
, fraudulent and crappy mobile network ?

Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with MTN.

for your information, an average Nigerian have 2 to 3 sim cards
I dumped mtn sim since 2010when I realised that what my present network is upto.
for the fact that my mtn sim is still inside my phone is not that I am still making use of it.
I cannot remember when last I subscribe that lines.

Bros,MTN cannot improve service beyond the level of quality of the regulators in the NUC.
The registration issues was because our Leaders were not proactive enough to protect our institutiions and systems from the foundation, they only react when there is a crisis and they can easily pass the bulk. The network architecture framework was supposed to have security and identity measures.
For instance NCC is no different from NUC(Nigeria University Commision).NUC cannot even regulate the number of students given admission into our tietary institutions for a single year. This is why school fees, accommodation and other student benefit is not properly managed. What gets measured gets managed. When you school in the UK for instance, you have a CAS number which accounts for you as a student. This number is given by the UK home office and not the University itself.
The framework of SIM registration was supposed to be regulated by the NUC,which was responsible for generating simcard numbers for Telecoms companies.
From the onset NUC was aware of improperly registered simcards, and yet they kept approving because they got paid for every sim cards sucessfully registered.
Now there is insecurity, they want only MTN to pay for their fundamental mistake. After making intial payment to NCC for those sims.If they want those sim blocked they will have to refunds MTN the current equivalent value of those sim cards.
This is not just about a policy decision for the NCC,it is also a 5 million subscriber business decision for MTN aswell. There has to be a middle ground.
This is what we get when we let politicians and not technocrats run the economy.

MTN and Dstv are probably the 2 most hated companies in Nigeria

Because they are South African companies, if they were American or British, they wouldn't face such hatred. Thats why etisalat and airtel as foreign companies dont experience harsh treatment like mtn and dstv do, etisalat and airtel are not South african firms.
