We should ensure that workers are properly trained (as suggested by the article) and well-paid and then enforce local content laws. No need to "block" anything.

Importation needs to be block and ban too. I believe Nigeria can survive without importation of any

This man is slowly taking Nigeria back to the Stone Age. It's only a matter of time before fire would get looked upon as an advancement in science.

So I want to build a castle above hills when I finally make it in life, complete with medieval weaponry and expert masonry - this whole plan has been killed because we have a president who cannot look beyond his grievance from 32years ago?! I know no Nigerian architect or construction workers who can design exactly what I have in mind. How won't this dictator put that into consideration!

cheesy cheesy cheesy Balderdash as usual.

This is one of the best news this year. Do you know how much these construction companies pay their "expatriates"? Even at that you'll have foreign technicians earning better than Nigerian engineers on Nigerian soil.

Don't be an enemy of progress. Goat. cheesy

How many expatriates are brick and block layers, carpenters, painters, welders, fabricators, plumbers?

President Buhari assured members of the board of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc that his administration would act swiftly to ensure that the Building Craft Training School and Skill Improvement Centre in Lagos are fully revamped, staffed and equipped to produce more skilled electricians, brick and block layers, carpenters, painters, welders, fabricators, plumbers and other artisans.

Buharia is not ready to protect d citizenry.
A situation the local trained d so called expat, after sometime d expat will be d boss and start maltreating the local.
Until they implement local content in construction sector, local will still be at d mercy of d foreign worker(expat)

It will be a very nice idea. It is only in Nigeria degrees and certificates are awarded for courses that are of no importance to the nation. B.sc in philosophy, religious studies, history, local govt and chieftaincy titles and others can't help the nation. When we start awarding degrees in plumbing, welding and fabrication, carpentry, fashion design, hair styling, catering and other relevant vocations, then we will say we are ready to go forward. Everything is all about certifications! I wonder why a university will be awarding Bsc in Islamic/religious studies and none in other relevant vocations!!!

Buhari should be told you have more Nigerians in Ghana and other west African countries than you have aliens here.
Expect tit for tat reactions from our neighbours.
Don't embarrass yourself any further.

Always reason very well before you post a comment. It will do you a lot of good.

One thing we can't be oblivious to is the fact that this current administration seem to know what they're doing and not clueless or seem cluesess to the public.

Nobody is talking of the staff welfare, the way they pack Nigerians in containers like sardines after making some of them go to work as early as 4am to come back 8pm. How some of the workers remain casual staff for more than two years and discharged without benefits. How they stop Nigerians from going into some restaurants that are exclusive for the whites.
In fact I heard of a case in the south south where a white man unleashed a dog on a black man because he got close to one of the restaurant.
In their country they treat us like animals in our country they treat us like slaves, who is to talk to them?
I heard some of the Nigerians that had worked in the company for upwards of twenty years are scared of being admitted in their hospital for the fear of being murdered. That is the situation our fellow country men face under these whites that steals our resources during construction and expect gratitude from us for paying Nigerians far less than what an average person earns in their country. It high time we start placing these red heads where they belong.
Guy U dull,
That moment you enter malaysia and call the people there whites

AN economy only thrive when there is competition in its labour market.Limiting oneself to the labour force of one's country leads to stagnation.

Why won't foreign labourers coming to take our jobs in the name expatriates?

When people enter Nigeria at will and leaves at will.

We are saying there is unemployment, foreigners are given preferential treatment in getting good jobs.

Some time now, Oyibo will start claiming Omonile in Lagos.

Nairaland can be used to gather statistic of the number of fools in the country.
You use to have many likes but gradually your likes are reducing.
Statistically speaking, the number of fools in Nigeria are significantly reducing. That's a move in the right direction. grin

It's not my fault they studied hopeless courses in a hopeless country. They should find other nations where their skills are in demand.
All I know is for what I've in my mind the importation of both labour and materials is needed. No government in power should kill my dream if not I'd swear a local deity on whoever is in power.

This is a very very good move if only Baba go slow can implement it. It will reduce capital flight from our economy,it Will upgrade the quality of professionals in the building industry because youths will be better trained and it will reduce unemployment because youths will have the required skill to be gainfully employed or self reliant. And lastly it will reduce the occurrences of building collapse in the nation because the quality of job done will increase
