If any1 have been ff, you'll see why they can't select every1 that came for the same interview. Hence, why i asked the question cos different opinions/approaches and different replies.

Rmb guyz, every opinion matters cos what might be ridiculous to you might be what another recruiter wants. Hence, the guy you called stupid, for you being selected before him in 1 firm, might get a call back before you in another.

Ans so far, 1; 2; 3; 4; 10

Pls i didnt just ask for the ans but how you'd ans/approach it. Rmb it's the only question on the interview.

Regards

This question, like most interview questions, is not a function of right or wrong. I want to believe the interviewer wants to understand how the applicants thinks. I would advise that one answers this question in context. Pick a particular context, give your answer and explain in that context. Brevity is also very important so dont just go off in a tangent

Well, mathematics is science and in advance science, 1+1 is not exactly equal 2, but 1+1~2

Lol this is an interview not an abstract mathematics class. What if the recruiter was looking for how you proffer simple solutions to problems? or is this not possible?

The moment you start proving 1+1 from Adam, the guy man will write you off as someone who likes to complicate simple issues. You never can tell what these guys want.

if I ask you "What is your name?" how will you reply me.

Its so funny he graduates can be confused in life... If an interviewer asks me what is one plus one, i willl simply laugh and tell him two...and ask him bak, why do u ask... That will throw him off balance..

I'll simply tell u my name.
Nice approach bro
But am guilty of always trying to complicate issues.

When asked such question, don't just go dumb/silent or give plain answer as 2 undecided . Give a SMART 2 to 3mins response in that respect, for fvcksake you are a graduate act like one! 1+1 can be anything(e.g infinity), how you are able to convince me (the interviewer) that 1+1 is infinity is what I am after I.e your thought process.

1 plus 1 gives you two. Never assume for the interviewer. For Mathematics its 2.

This is really a logical one.
If I were in his shoes I'd give two answers, thus:
logically, in Mathematics, depending on the base system, 1+1 is two calculating in base 10.
On the brighter side, I think 1 + 1 is 1. Every organization need to have employees working towards a common goal, which requires cooperations, innovations, shatring ideas e.t.c. In this context, team work cannot be over- or under-emphasized. Many sticks make a broom. Therefore, 1 + 1 is one!
Abeg u go be me teacher?

1+1=2 then wait for another question.even if you dont get the job

A question like 1+1 is asked to figure out if you can keep your thought process as simple as possible. Sometimes the solution we seek to very unique problems or obstacles can be approached from the basics. So when posed with the question 1+1, be bold enough to say 2. If that does not satisfy the person, then ask them to clarify what assumption they want the question answered. However for all intents and purposes, 1+1=2

This is serious, in fact adonbilivit!... 2 pages already filled with people trying to be too smart for themselves with the simplest question in the world and this is how smart eficos fail even while the not-too-smart move forward in life.

For crying out loud, 1+1 = 2 and in an interview, I would say this with confidence, laugh it off and ask the interviewer what other answer he needs.

In my opinion any reasonable and convincing answer u give to an interviewer to such question would be acceptable. No sane interviewer will penalize u if u say 1+1 is 2 because he was xpectin u to use the 'team player approach' or vice versa. Which evr approach u use provided u gv him an intelligent xplanation on why u said what u said; truth be told 1+1 any where in the world is 2 so no body will penalize u becos u said so. Some of this questions (mostly the easy ones) are just to test ur smartness, besides when asked 1+1 during an interview don't act like u are surprised at the question just answer them the way u would answer any other question the interviewer may want to know whether u take things for granted.
Very straight question that requires a straight answer. If someone asks you what is 1+1? My dear the simple answer is 2.

Simple mathematics says 1+1 =2 just be bold and say your answer as there is no point thinking so deep.
Some of you who are chipping in religion by saying 1+1=1 is actually baseless. We are talking real world issue here
Re: The Crazy Interview Question "What Is 1+1?" by Flame4chi(m): 6:37pm On Nov 29, 2015
The answer is simple 1+1=2... Make sure you put that in a sentence "one(1) plus one(1) equals two(2)...

Well, you never know what an interviewer wants from you. They all psycho analysing you. So you have to tailor your response but you can end up being wrong by making wrong assumptions and thinking you're giving them what they want while actually going farther from halfway.

Imagine an interviewer that's going through a divorce process and you gave the marriage assumption?

Short of reading his mind you can never tell what he expects from you with this kind of question , the question isn't half as smart as I think it would be. A simple 2 would be my answer and if he isn't satisfied with my answer he can ask me in the context he wants

Okay, this is my first time but I wanna share a confusing experience

I was preparing for the labour market about a year ago, after graduation, and having no clue even what my CV should look like and all

To cut the chase, I went online for possible interview questions and I stumbled on this 'guy's experience on an interview question that made me realise people think differently

The person in question said he went for an interview and was asked only 1 question, off course after the normal introduce yourself speech. The question was:

What is 1+1?

He said, as to this simplicity, he was confused, as you know how all these logical questions you're not supposed to assume is as easy as it looks but he was famished at this level.

To cut it short ,I was following the tread and found out saying '2' might have gotten this guy the job or maybe not. In a nutshell, he said nothing as he asked for the interviewer to explain and he did nothing but to repeat the question that

'What is 1+1?

He couldn't answer this and didn't get a call back.

Now am asking you guys how y'all will approach this question and what will be your response?

Politically 1+1=11, mathematically 1+1=2 and religiously(xtian) 1+1=1. As simple as that. It is a pity that I dnt v time to explain them, mayb next time
