Job seekers in the house, 1+1 is a question with very simple response. The scenario is this: interviewer:- what is 1+1? Please note that the question is not saying add 1 to 1, rather the question is asking for the definition of 1+1. It is a logical/verbal reasoning question. The response should be :- "1+1 mean the summation of 1 and 1. This will mathematically yield 2"QED.

1 + 1 ( in base 10) = 1

In my opinion any reasonable and convincing answer u give to an interviewer to such question would be acceptable. No sane interviewer will penalize u if u say 1+1 is 2 because he was xpectin u to use the 'team player approach' or vice versa. Which evr approach u use provided u gv him an intelligent xplanation on why u said what u said; truth be told 1+1 any where in the world is 2 so no body will penalize u becos u said so. Some of this questions (mostly the easy ones) are just to test ur smartness, besides when asked 1+1 during an interview don't act like u are surprised at the question just answer them the way u would answer any other question the interviewer may want to know whether u take things for granted.
Thats where its a bit tricky, the explanation part. Most interviewers JUST want a straight answer, NOT explanation. In such case when asked such questn, the logical answer is "mathematically the answer is two" instead of explaining. Dat can put off most interviewers. It is when u are askd to giv reasons 4 ur ansa that u can den explain as concise and brief as possible.

4YM you've killed it!

Well, if you're applying for a consulting firm, then you find out 1+1 is not 2 or even 1 cos you have to walk them through your thinking process.

Also, 1+1>2 according to synergy

Like i said earlier, it's not as easy as it seems.

Like my firm says, there're no silly questions :p

Interesting theory.. 1+1 can be 3 in terms of mergers and acqusitions.

1+1=2 then wait for another question.even if you dont get the job
okay. you work with the HR department?
just trying to stay safe, give all plausible answers, leaving off unintelligent ones. this answer would do just fine with consulting firms sha.

For me my answer will be that its a mathematical expression... Note there is no (=) sign in the question to warrant its summation. Just like if someone ask me what is x+y my answer will be its a linear mathematical expression but if its x+y=z den its a mathematical equation..

the thing just come my head. besides, one have to anticipate interview questions; prepare for the likelihood of this kind of questions. some of those interviewers are bored with the conventional questions, they now like to go 'out of context'.

A dumb question to determine a candidate's probability of success within any company. I'd fire the HR "expert" who decided to use this question as a litmus test.

Re: The Crazy Interview Question "What Is 1+1?" by UjSizzle(f): 8:55pm On Nov 29, 2015
You know the best way to confuse the 'wise' is to make mockery of their wisdom with something ridiculously simple.

My boss (who is an ICAN marker) says candidates like to give themselves "additional questions" simply because they believe if a question is unusually easy then there must exist some element of trickery.
Weird right? You'd think anyone would drop a quick 2 as the answer, but your brain is so wrapped up by sheer stupidity of the question you either cannot formulate an appropriate answer or you're busy working out every possible solution to the 'perceived' question.

In base 3 upwards, it's 2.
In base 2 (aka binary), it's 10. Remember, say one zero, not ten. If the interviewer says ten, remind him that this is binary, there's no such thing as ten. And if you're proper math polyglot proceed to chat in hexadecimal or if you're truly gearing up for the apocalypse (as our end time posters like to remind us) chat in morse code...

That's why I'm telling you it's simply a play of relationships. Imagine an interviewer who knows nothing about mathematical bases and you tell him or her about that? You see, the point is not really what the interviewer think or feels but what it really is.

If an interviewer feels or thinks otherwise it is usually because of our inadequate explanation or they are plainly dumb. I don't see how any explanation on the association can be wrong. If they are really smart you will with adequate knowledge influence what they think or feel.

You don't make yourself a fool because a dumb person is interviewing you. And the company who employs an emotional and downtrodden person instead of a rational and logical person is not a company you should be working with.

This Point Also Makes Me afraid. every One Does Not Have Sam Way of thinking

I've seen dis question b4 in a book(can't remember d name now)..d answer is actually a question..."sir,what do you want 1+1 to be?....it's a very logical question..

Two things are involved

1.just to show your attitude or character towards the questions... was it funny or U take it seriously .that is gonna show your temperament there

2.the question goes thus.
..what's 1+1 ? U Should not say 2
The interviewer was trying to know if U can move the company forward or it's on your interest you came for ,as in if U were given two things
What to produce with (1) and what to produce [capital. In economics] (1) will U produce the actual things or U do better... so in that case U do times two ×2 of what they expect of U... which is =1+1=2 ,2×2=4

U do more than what the company expect of U....U go further

Thanks
Hmmmm guy the answer to the question is " It depends on what you want 1+1 to be" dats all. if u say any number u have failed bcus 1+1 can be zero. I read about it in one of Robert T.Kiyosaki's book. The Rich Dad's series

That's what some interviewers can make you do if you don't know your stuff. You asked me what one plus one is, I will simply reply by saying:

In mathematics, where we work with base ten, it is usually two, but then 'one' is also a metonymy for a single person or entity and in cooperation's like the one you are interviewing me for what I do must tally with what we all do. That is, advancing the company. You can add any other thing.

What U said Actually Make Sense But, What If Your Big Grammer Landed You Ruse (metonymy: No be Every Interviewer Likes To Be Answered With Big Grammer). This might bCoz Not Every One Think or Understand The Way U Understand things smiley
