Intel core. Hp or Toshiba or dell. Make sure its Intel core. As its ur new laptop, I advice hp CUs of readily available soft and hardware.

No matter what you do,Do not I repeat do not make the mistake of purchasing an AMD processor system

HP is not better and for your info the company HP has been divided Hewlett/Packard are different companies now

Pavillion series is a fragile series if you are the rough/heavy user stay away from it

Intel is substantially better. You can do benchmark comparisons online when you compare top core i7 models like the core i7 6820hk to say an AMD FX processor.

OP if u r in Nigeria then please do not buy AMD laptop. Though its strong but because of our hot weather its not advisable to use in this part of the world. AMD laptops r associated with Motherboard problems due to over heating.

Does your laptop use an integrated or discrete graphics card solution?

The brand names do not matter. What matters is the content of the system. Both AMD and Intel processors are okay just that most AMD models were created for cold climates and are cheaper.

Right now, the lenovo series are the rave in the market.

@ pikapizy, go for an Intel branded system
AMD uses the A-series for its high end laptop offerings which IMHO do not give as much bang for the buck due to their usage of compute cores (GPU and CPU cores on the same chip) unlike Intel that have separate CPU and GPU chips
Go for an i5 Intel system which would confer more power [i7=more heat embarassed] and preferably Intel's 5th generation if you can afford it but not ULV powered ultrabooks
Also if you can afford a system that has a dedicated GPU graphics card over on board graphics such as Intel HD series, go for it as you are talking about gaming
Wish you the best, cheers cool

How can you compare Apples and Oranges? sad sad
How can you compare sixth generation Intel CPUs released in 2015 to AMD's FX series which birthed in 2011?
Its a no brainer sad sad
Do you know Nigerians are very PRICE SENSITIVE to IT products
Thus how many can afford Intel's brand new 6th generation offerings? embarassed embarassed embarassed
Compare the AMD's FX series with Intel's 3rd generation Ivy Bridge CPUs such as i3, i5 and i7 3xxx series if you want to
Even at that, this benchmarks are not real world as there should be
Just a bunch of figures you lust after so as to buy more expensive Intel chips in most cases tongue tongue
I have an AMD FX 3120 desktop system which cpuboss says is inferior to my 4th generation Intel Core i7 4700MQ laptop [see graphic]
Yet in my daily usage, the cheaper and older AMD trumps the laptop especially when I'm running emulation software and other CPU tasking activities
Currently Intel is way ahead of AMD in CPU market offerings
Hopefully AMD's Zen architecture should reset AMD in the CPU space
Non the less, if you know what you are looking for, AMD can give better bang for you buck in some scenarios cool cool

Either you have a defective Haswell 4700MQ or your story is croc. Unless if you are dealing with processes that are extremely heavily multi-threaded needing more than 4 cores (which is rarely the case unless if you are processing huge data sets), then that AMD FX-3120 isn't going to come close to the performance of the Intel Core i7 4700MQ. Just not happening!

The jump from Haswell to Skylake isn't that big. Maybe about 20%. Intel has been trumping AMD for quite a long time. AMD if care is not taken will go out of business leaving Intel as the sole proprietor of desktop and laptop chips. AMD better be careful. Intel just keeps getting better and better. I don't know why AMD can't innovate.

Croc story? grin grin
Don't think so
I got them primarily for vitualization which I don't think qualifies as crunching huge data undecided
While the AMD FX is overclocked wink wink, I'm pleasantly surprised it seems to be a greater workhorse than the Intel chip for very similar workloads
Regarding AMD going out of biz, I pray that doesn't happen cos Intel will force outlandish prices down everyone's throats
Its not that AMD can't innovate
They just lack the financial means to do so and take Intel head on cool
Hopefully AMD Zen can deliver because let's face it, majority of computer users don't require the power of a 6th gen core i7 processor embarassed embarassed

@pika, good for you
But that laptop will struggle for serious gaming
My ideapad set me back almost £800 yet was panting to compete with the likes of Aorus, MSI and Dell Alien for serious gaming back in 2014 embarassed embarassed talk less of today
Na wetin you fit afford for now be that
Cos pesin no fit burrow your neighbour diick so as to satisfy your wife for night lipsrsealed lipsrsealed
Take good care of it

Well unless they can come up with something quickly, AMD is in huge trouble. Both in the CPU and GPU realm.

None of AMDs current GPUs can compete with the likes of nVidia's GPUs. We already know that AMD doesn't have the financial means to bring out chips on par with Intel. Yes Intel is more expensive, but does the performance difference out weigh the price difference? That's completely up to the consumer..

In regards to virtualization, Intel chips should hold the advantage thanks to hyper-V.

This is not true there are AMD GPU's that nvidia graphics cards do not see their backs let alone Intel

that's complete B.S. so which AMD GPUs are these that outclass nVidia graphics cards? Currently, the best GPUs are the nVidia GTX980Ti and GTX Titan. No AMD crap comes close the AMD Radeon 390X is a joke

You do know what crossfire is right? It's having 2 or more of the same card running in crossfire, please if you such know what you are talking about don't mention it.

NVidia's equivalent is called SLI. 2 nvidia gtx980 SLI or 2 nvidia GTX980Ti in SLI or 2 nvidia GTX Titan in SLI completely destroys 2 AMD radeon R9 290X/390X. There is no comparison. The beastiest configuration I have seen online is 4 GTX980Ti pushing an 8K monitor with all settings maxed out

You are contradicting yourself who said I was pitting it with Titan I simply said it will still hold its own against several multiple nvidia gtx and geforce series graphics cards combined, online is different from physical observation
If it were that bad as you claim it won't be ranked 8th in the official benchmark performance index

No, there is no contradiction. I'm telling you that you don't know what crossfire is, and you don't otherwise you wouldn't have said something as ridiculous as the 290X crossfire. Because it's not a single card it's multiple. Crossfire is setting up multiple AMD GPUs at once. The 290X is bested by the likes of the GTX970, GTX980, GTX980TI and GTX Titan X. The thing sucks. The only advantage it has is price. Other than that, AMD has no GPU that performs as well as nvidia. Next time do your research

If I don't know what I know you would have confused me already, I am clearly not responsible for what you read and understand

Calm down and think before typing

Not once did I say it was better than the Titan series, multiple cards or not

If crossfire is the bone of contention you might as well say a quadro is better

It doesn't matter how many cards/cores/threads the aim is to reduce the workload on a particular core/card/thread whatever you like to call it and deliver standout performances

If it sucks or not that's your problem not mine, it doesn't change its standing on the performance ranking No 8 no be beans not even the much talked about overclocked GTX 770M beats it

You have a grudge with AMD which is understandable, professionally no one cares if you hold a grudge, performance is all that matters

Again, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. I mentioned 4 cards that beat it. The GTX970, GTX980, GTX980TI and GTX Titan X.

If you are going to mention 290X crossfire, then you are implying it takes 2 or more AMD Radeon 290X cards to perform as well as 1 high-end nvidia card, which is a very apples to oranges comparison. Compare a crossfire setup to an SLI setup, and the SLI setup wins at the cost of the nvidia higher price premium. Which is well worth it since nvidia builds far more powerful GPUs.

Why even bring Quadro into this? It's meant for engineering...... Not gaming. The GeForce and Quadro series are used for far different things. Quadro is woeful when used to play high-end games but it's great when used for 3D engineering.
