That's why I told you to be objective. Don't be political in your submission. If Lai Mohammed's statement is your yardstick to arrive at your "logical" conclusion, then it will "logical" for you to say every money spent under Jonathan's govt on roads, new federal Universities, and other projects is from Dasuki, since information ministry and other ministries didn't get funds via budgets or generate money from govt agencies.

So when it involves APC spokesman Now we should thread with caution, But in Obaigbena's thisDay owner, we throw caution to the winds=Equal Double standard, so for your information, Femi Adesina took N50m from DasukiGate, Same way Obaigbena's Thisday collected money from Dasukigate. simple!

Adesina too was present at the same Event as Maku, and even aknowledged the approval of the money before it was deposited
Not that Maku just went behind to deposit a money somewhere as many hastily wants us to conclude
, a process of 'approval attended by Femi Adesina' was put in place 1st.

. The same way thisday newspaper received their pay, but APC journalist attached Obaigbena, the same principle must be applicable in uniformity. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/why-i-received-n670m-from-dasuki-by-nduka-obaigbena-thisday-publisher/

There are marked differences in this matter:
1. NGE is not an individual profit making body; but a body of elders of the journalism profession. This day is a profit making body owned by Nduka Obaigbena sole
2. The donation of N50m was done towards the building of their secretariat (which has been completed) in public and reported widely. Obaigbenas one was done in secret and only exposed during the probe.
3. For an individual to have been given N630m as "compensation" for what Was the Government of the time claiming responsibility for the bombing? Why compensate? Or were they paying for some other thing? As a Limited company, should he not have insurance? What he alone got is over ten time what a body of elders got. Does Nduka Obaigbena even pay tax?

I think we should not be pettey with this matter. Until people begin to suffer the consequences for corruption, we will not move forward.

It is the government's responsibility to protect it's citizens. Thus when there's a disaster, the government has a responsibility to respond. That's why they opt to pay the bills of the wounded in a bomb blast. That's why they rebuild markets, schools, mosques, churches after it has been razed down by miscreants. The bomb incident in Thisday and Suns Newspaper was perpetuated by Boko Haram because the terrorists felt threatened by the patriotic press. Thus it's not out of place for the govt to help the bombed Newspaper establishments to rebuild.

And if I may ask, since when did the FG become mortgaging firm to the NGE? Wetin concern govt and the NGE building?

I think we should not be pettey with this matter. Until people begin to suffer the consequences for corruption, we will not move forward.

you still make same mistake by jumping Exegical Holes in Bolded above, lets expose holes you did not want us to expose, Donation of N50m was received and aknowledged through a remark by Femi Adesina phisically present;

i am highly disappointed at your submission. If Nduka Obiagbena and his company Thisday was paid 630 million naira as compensation for bombing of 2 of their offices by Boko Haram, how much compensation was paid to Sun Newspapers that suffered similar bombings? How much compensation was paid to MTN and Etisalat that most of their masts in Maiduguri and Bornu destroyed by Boko Haram? How much compensation was paid by Dasuki to thousands of homes destroyed and burnt by Boko Haram? What about compensation for the tens of thousands of people killed by Boko Haram? Why was it only Nduka Obiagbena that deserved to be compensated by Jonathan?

The Issue of FGN becoming a morgage firm to NGE does not even arise or make sense. NGE organized a fund raising dinner to raise N850 million to build their secretariat, the FG, state governments, Private organizations and the public were invited. The FG made a donation of N50 million, various state governments made undisclosed donations, wealthy individuals donated, so how is FG a morgage firm? FG and its agencies make donations to other non governmental organizations all the time, they have even made numerous donations to other organizations like the Nigerian Labour Congress, Nigerian Bar Association, etc, so there is nothing extraordinary about making donations to NGE. The donations was made through the right channel - The Minister of Information.

Are you now insinuating that all donations made by FG and its agencies are illegal?

You're ignorant. Its very obvious that you are ignorant. That money wss not meant for Thisday Newspaper alone, the Sun Newspaper and the Nation Newspaper were also in the picture and they got their cuts. The MTN and other network mast were rebuilt with the assistance of the government. As regards the compensation for those who lost their loved ones and property, the government did provide them some form of assistance even though I admit a lot still need to be done in that regard.

You are a liar and a thief, it is only a thief that can lie bold face and distort facts.
Where did you get the lie that Sun Newspaper was compensated by Dasuki for the bombing of their office by Book Harm? What concern's the nation newspapers with compensation for boko Haram bombings, was the nation's office also bombed? Provide evidence that government assisted MTN and other networks with rebuilding of their masts destroyed by boko Haram. How many people did Jonathan or Dasuki compensate for property and loved ones ? provide evidence and names.

Liar and thief, who is taking about NPAN, we are talking about the N550 million collect by fraudulent means from Dasuki by Obiagbena. Money he explained away as compensation for boko Haram's bombings of his offices.

Here is what Nduka obiagbena wrote in his explanation to EFCC ;
Contents of letter
The letter addressed to the acting Executive Chairman of the EFCC reads:
“At your request, we provide the following clarifications on payments of N670,000,000 received by GENERAL HYDROCARBONS LTD on behalf of THISDAY NEWSPAPERS GROUP (N550,000,000) and THE NEWSPAPERS PROPRIETORS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (NPAN), for member newspapers ( N120,000,000) from The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Office of The National Security Adviser ( ONSA) between 2014 and 2015. I have set out the areas of possible questions and concerns and provided answers below:
“Why GENERAL HYDROCARBONS LTD? General Hydrocarbons Ltd was set up as the power supply, diesel and fuel logistics arm of the THISDAY NEWSPAPERS GROUP, servicing the power and fuel logistics requirements of the group. There are other business units that service supplies and imports such as newsprint, ink, chemicals and consumables, machinery, etc. It is standard practice within large media groups to have business units meeting special logistics, infrastructural and supply needs.
“Why was the payment made to General Hydrocarbons Ltd and not to THISDAY directly? First, President Goodluck Jonathan made it clear at the beginning that he did not want to create a precedent by paying THISDAY compensation given we had several victims of Boko Haram bombings around the country. Once payment was approved for the reconstruction of the UN Buildings in Abuja, that continued refusal or reluctance to pay us became tenuous as we were the next institution to be so bombed after the UN and Police Headquarters buildings which were then being reconstructed by the Federal Government. So when the ONSA said that they had approval to pay us, but would rather not set a precedent by paying THISDAY directly, we nominated a member company of the THISDAY Newspapers Group, called General Hydrocarbons Ltd., to receive the payments on behalf of the group of companies, given that the assets of General Hydrocarbons Ltd – mainly generators – were also destroyed in the bombings
.

The money was paid to obiagbena not even through thisday newspapers but through another of obiagbena's companies General Hydrocarbons ltd. So how do you reconcile the two? Thisday newspapers, a legal entity's office was bombed and they asked to be compensated, but a different legal entity, General Hydrocarbons ltd was paid compensation instead. How was the compensation arrived at? where is the valuation of damages?

I am sure you work for obiagbena or somehow you benefited from the largesse. your levellevel of support for criminality cannot be just on tribal basis.

Hello sir, you Have no point! ThisDay Newspaper Ltd, General Hydrocarbons ltd were owned by obiagbena, and was paid from Currupt proceeds.

The Nation Newspaper along with other Newspaper were given some money by the FG and was collected by Nduka Obaigbena on behalf of NPAN. The money was compensation for the attack of the Military on Newspaper Establishments. I had thought the Sun Newspaper was also compensated for the Boko Haram attack (even though the damage done on the Sun Newspaper was nothing compared to that of Thisday). Thisday is entitled to that money. If the UN could be compensated by rebuilding their bombed building why shouldn't Thisday be compensated as well? You are still throwing in a red herring in order to Justify Jonathan's administration's sharing of arms money meant to fight Boko Haram. Yes, Nduka Obiagbena collected N120,000,000 on behalf of NPAN to compensate newspaper houses that had their newspapers siezed and destroyed by the army. It is not even this payment that people are calling Nduka a thief, even though the money was paid through questionable means and shouded in secrecy. It is ethically and morally wrong for compensation monies for NPAN members to be paid through a proxy company of the chairman. General Hydocarbon ltd is not even a member of NPAN, so why was the money not paid directly into NPAN's accounts? Most NPAN members were not even aware of how the money was paid and that the money was from money meant for arms purchase. Now that the lid has been blown off and the questionable way Nduka collected the N120 million on their behalf, a lot of them has returned the money, punch has even suspended its membership of NPAN.

Dasukigate: PUNCH newspaper withdraws from NPAN
Punch Nigeria Limited, publishers of the PUNCH titles, has suspended its membership of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria, NPAN.

The company communicated the decision to the NPAN in a letter dated Thursday, December 17 and signed by its chairman, Wale Aboderin.

“After a careful review of recent, and still unfolding, developments, Punch Nigeria Limited is suspending its membership of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria until further notice. This suspension takes effect immediately

“The public will recall the criminal charges levelled against a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and several other alleged accomplices.

“These charges border on the diversion of public funds, totalling $2.1 billion, allocated for the purchase of arms to prosecute the war against terrorism.

“The revelations indicate that the sum of N120 million was disbursed in murky circumstances to some member-companies of NPAN, ostensibly as compensation for the losses they incurred in June 2014 when armed soldiers seized newspapers and newspaper distribution vans.

“The source of this money and the manner of its receipt, allegedly through a company called General Hydrocarbons, which is unknown to NPAN, have raised public concerns about the integrity of the press in Nigeria.

Here 4 members of NPAN denies knowledge of the whole transaction

Dasukigate: As 4 Newspapers Deny Receiving Funds From Obaigbena, NPAN Responds
SAN FRANCISCO, December 12, (THEWILL) – With at least four newspaper companies refuting claims that they received N10 million naira each from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki through Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, the Chairman of ThisDay, the Newspapers Proprietors of Nigeria (NPAN) Saturday issued a statement on the development.

Obaigbena, who also doubles as President of NPAN, while defending the receipt of N670 million from the former NSA, had in a letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is investigating how cash meant for arms was recklessly disbursed, listed at least 14 newspapers that shared N120 million of the sum as compensation for the military’s seizure of newspapers and disruption of circulation.

Obaigbena said the remainder N550 million was meant for ThisDay following the bombing of its Abuja and Kaduna offices by the Boko Haram in 2012.

The Tribune, New Telegraph, Peoples Daily and Daily Independent Friday in separate statements denied receiving any payments.

If most members of NPAN are appalled by the way Nduka Obiagbena handle the whole NPAN compensation saga, you a non party to the whole affair is praising Nduka.

Thisday is entitled to that money. If the UN could be compensated by rebuilding their bombed building why shouldn't Thisday be compensated as well? So don't be pained that Thisday got that money just the same way you are not pained that NGE got theirs. And if Nduka is told to refund the money, then Femi Adesina should also be told to refund his as well.

Thisday is not entitled to any money and definitely not entitled to N530 million of our collective wealth. Even though government's promise to rebuild the UN was seriously criticized by Nigerian, it was not done under questionable circumstances. Ban Ki Moon did not receive monies meant to procure arms from private third party companies. The UN building contract went through the FEC and through appropriate channels.

FG to rebuild bombed UN building with N5.2bn
Abuja — The Federal Executive Council, FEC, chaired by the Vice President Namadi Sambo, yesterday, approved contracts worth N199.19 billion in various sectors of the economy.

Of this amount, road construction and rehabilitation across different geo-political zones of the country took the lion share of N176.13 billion while the construction of terminal building as well as control tower at the Yenagoa airport was approved at the cost of N13.91 billion while the reconstruction of the bombed United Nations Building in Abuja was approved for N5.2 billion.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/fg-to-rebuild-bombed-un-building-with-n5-2bn/

The N530 million collected by Nduka was pure theft, it was not budgeted for, it did not pass through any litigation or adminstrative processs, it was was dashed to him. The office building in Kaduna housed two other newspaper houses - The Sun, ThisDay and The Moment newspapers, only Thisday collected "compensation"

UPDATE: Bomb Attacks on Nigerian Newspapers
VIENNA, April 27, 2012 - A total of eight casualties have been confirmed following attacks on media houses in Nigeria on Thursday, April 26. Militant Islamist group Boko Haram has allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

A suicide bomber in an explosives-laden car drove into the offices of ThisDay newspaper in Abuja, while a bomb was thrown at a building housing the offices of The Sun, ThisDay and The Moment in Kaduna, according to the Associated Press and other reports.

ONSA paid both NPAN and NGE. Its either they both keep the money or they both refund the money. Simple.

But some members of NPAN have returned the compensation money once they discovered that Nduka collected the money from Dasuki. If there is evidence that the donations made by FG to NGE was from money earmarked for arms purchase, they also have a moral obligation to return same. But so far, there is no direct connection between Dasuki and NGE. The donation was pledged and paid by Labaran Maku, It behoves on labaran to explain where he got the money.

ONSA told Nduka that it paid NGE N50m, Nduka told Nigerians what ONSA told him, NGE in turn affirmed that they were paid N50m but never told us who credited the account. Who's fooling who?

And Point of Correction, NGE never said Labaran Maku paid the money. They only said he pledged the money on behalf of Jonathan. They said the money was subsequently wired into their account after the pledge. And they chose to be silent on who effected the transfer. So they haven't refuted ONSA's claim that they were paid by ONSA. They only refuted the cash payment claim.
