When the present administration came onboard, it reverted 1. the upgrading of four colleges of education to the status of university of Education. coes Kano, Owerri, and two others were affected. was Amaechi responsible for this? 2. the federal university of health sciences, Oturkpo. who are we to blame in this case, Amaechi or the Idomas' perpetual political foes - the Tivs when the only minister from the state is an Idoma man.
3. Maritime university. why is this attributed to Amaechi? because he's a member of the federal executive council?
Wailers want to twist facts here plant hatred in the hearts of many Niger Deltans against Amaechi. I understand their feelings. Amaechi's efforts to see the needful done has produced foes and friends amongst many Niger Deltans.

They are insinuating it was within the power of Amaechi to cancel the proposed maritime university when it was the government's decision, and Amaechi was only relaying the government's decision. Is Amaechi the only minister from the nigerdelta in this government? Is there no minister from bayelsa state? Why don't they raise objections to the cancelling of the proposed maritime university at the next federal executive meeting?

forget it. Obasanjo was roundly rejected by his people in 1999 but Nigerians made him a president. If Amaechi is to rule this nation in any capacity, only God can stop it and not your hatings.

That University was being used to siphon funds. Why should you build another University from scratch when you can upgrade Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron to a full fledged University? When FG is already financing Maritime Institutes in UNN, IBB University et al to build capacity for the maritime sector. That project was pure fraud just a means of awarding over-inflated contracts and siphoning the money through NIMASA. Amaechi knows this, hence the cancellation. The Niger Delta still benefits in the end since Oron will be upgraded.

Response to this issue depends on the garment one is putting on at the time of commenting.

As a Niger Deltan, I am expected to strongly oppose the decision. The school brings in federal presence to the region, jobs and monthly federal allocation. Other regions will oppose this move if the school were to be in their region.

As a patriotic Nigerian, the school is another avenue to share money. Everything about it right from acquisation to employing to admitting is/will be fraudulent. The school will end up being like one of those our numerous institutions that hands out certificates without education.

Nigeria has no business opening new schools at the moment. This because we currently have too many sub-standard schools and funds are slim. Expand and upgrade existing schools. We will be better of that way.
