Muhammed Buhari led administration is not only a good sign of positive things to come, it is also a giant mission to create massive employment in an economy suffering from insecurity, non availability of skilled workers and inadequate local and foreign investment in the economy.
please can you elaborate more on this? How is payment of 5000 stipend to the unemployed graduate tantamount to creating jobs for them? And you even called it massive employment!

Taking a cursory look at the Niger Delta amnesty programme initiated by late President Yaradua would corroborate the government stance that the payment of the stipends would lead to a reduction in the crime rate and social vices.
remember, we are talking about graduates. You will agree with me that most tof of the militants are uneducated. That is why some of them were sent abroad for training in different trades with the hope that they would become useful to this country when they get back. Government did this when it realized that the amnesty cannot be protracted given its limited resources. so, how do you want to justify a stipend to people (the graduate) that are presumed to be learned and know how to come up with initiatives that will help them survive given their level of education?

By implication, Nigeria’s economy has become so dormant that it requires pragmatic actions if it is going to be awakened from its recess. The current state of our economy calls for policies and measures that will ensure that all active Nigerians, especially our graduates, come up with innovative business ideas that will set our economy on the part of glory; it requires that our graduates begin to think out of the box and come up with initiatives that will not only stimulate our country, but also the world at large. Succinctly, our current economic situation requires that our graduates start thinking about what they can do for this country and not what this country can do for them!

How do you expect our graduates to turn their innovative ideas into realistic business ventures when they cant even afford the basic needs of life?
You have to understand the fact that our graduates have almost no access to financial loans from our banks to start up real businesses like manufacturing and IT.
In order to cushion the effect of the harsh economy on the graduates and keep oiling their motivation till they brake through, there must be a sort of regular sustenance and that is exactly what the N5000 stipend would do

This is how the payment of N5,000 stipend will create massive employment.
Once the government can reduce the criminal dispositions of the youth through this payment of stipends, there is bound to be a reduction in the crime rate thereby providing an enabling environment for massive foreign investment which in turn leads to massive industrialization and creation of job opportunities

Yet again, critically looking at the scheme, you will all agree with me that it is segmental, sectional, and one-sided. According to International Labor Organization (ILO) “unemployment covers persons (aged 15-64) who are actively seeking for work but are without work.” The scheme focuses only on college graduates leaving out non-college graduates who might also be ‘unemployed and vulnerable’. This is clear act of segregation and it is not good for this country at this point-in-time that ‘inclusive growth’ has continually been advocated.

No! the scheme doesn't focus on unemployed graduate alone but focusses on unemployed youths in general.

"You said that the payment of #5000 to the unemployed
youths in Nigeria will start by 2016 as it is not contained
in the 2015 budget. (Vanguard, Thursday, November
26,2015 page 8 ). The payment was part of the promise
during the election campaign."

I beg to differ will all enthusiasm! Unless the market women we see out there are far more exposed that our graduates! If those market women could secure bank loans that even transcends a million naira, what is stopping our graduates? Banks are ready to give out loans, but most of our graduates are not ready to bring out business ideas because they do not have. Banks have modalities for loan and any graduate that needs it for any business should ensure he/she works in accordance with such modalities and meet all terms and condition

Now, talking about the efficiency of the scheme; suppose 10million graduates are paid N5000 monthly, that is a whooping sum of N50billion every month. The money, if well harnessed, will go a long way in improving our infrastructures which, invariably, will create an affable terrain for businesses that will engage these graduates and make their lives meaningful and worthwhile. And that is what we simply need!
in the name of equality, if 469 people in the National Assembly can be sharing 150 billion naira per year, you can't possibly say it is not good to share 500 billion yearly among 25 million people.

Can you be more practical and give me an instance how the N50billion can engage the vulnerable youths more productively?

Even in advanced countries like USA and Britain, unemployed graduates are paid some sort of stipends to get them going before being fully engages in a job that can subside their responsibilities.
Coming up with initiatives is different from having the necessary state and government support that can turn your initiatives into reality.
In the United states, youths have access to student loan and can take business loan without collateral unlike Nigeria where reverse is the case.
As a result of this differences, Nigerian graduates are at a disadvantage and it thus become imperative for government to support them and this is exactly a way of breeding the motivation in them

@OAUTemitayo, I just need you clarify what you meant by using the phrase "dangerous to engage" in the statement below:

United States, Britain, Russia and other developed countries are known for paying their youths monthly stipends which have led to them being more patriotic and dangerous to engage when performing their citizenship obligations.......

Bank giving loans to market women, my brother that is a fallacy.
It is a known fact that majority of this women use daily collections to boost their business as no Nigerian bank will give you a loan without collateral.
Nigerian banks only give loans to big business that have the required collateral to offset their debts.
Where would unemployed graduates get collateral?

Maybe you need to go through the topic of discuss again. It reads: 5,000 stipend payment for unemployed graduate: Reduction of poverty and criminal thoughts among the vulnerable youth.

And mind you, unemployed graduates is the real focus of the scheme as inherent in the many of campaign speeches of our president during is campaign. I saw the information in that link in the course of my research and it did not take me minutes to know that it is one of those junk news we have online.

Dangerous to engage in the sense that the zeal and patriotism implanted in their soul by the welfarism of their respective countries makes them ready to pay the supreme price in any engagement they are having. And it is a known fact that patriotic soldiers are the deadliest enemies you shouldn't pray for.
How many Nigerian youths can die for this country nowadays?

The government sent the militants overseas for training in different trades because these militants are uneducated. They believe these militants will squander the amnesty but giving a graduate money is a blessing. He doesn't need to be educated again because he is already educated. What you are actually positing is that we should give paracetamol to someone who fell from the top of a mountain.

Giving the graduates money is the right thing and not sending them overseas to learn what they have already learnt again. The graduates are educated while the militants are uneducated; their treatment should not be the same.

You so much laid emphasis on business creation among the youth as a way forward, but you didn't tell us ways capital can be raised or accumulated to start these businesses. Don't you think this monthly 5000 naira stipends can generate capital to start a business in the long run?
