Do we have one? I always thought the President makes laws depending on where the wind blows. And you bet it'll be strictly enforced by the Federal police force.
Folks, please read the Constitution to really appreciate the drama that is the Nigerian democracy and rule of law.

Thanks for the link. Looks like an exact copy of the US constitution with minor changes though.

@Odeku

Do you know I love you. Atleast we agree sometimes. Our leader are abusing the law. Not following due process. That a bloody governor jumped bail, opened 13 accounts, looted the state treasury is not the reason for 5 legislature to abuse the law in order to impeach him.

Most of us knows that IBB looted but he is enjoying now. But I believe that one day he will be brought to book.

By May 29, 2007 most of the governors will finish their tenure and those that have commited crimes, like my own governor will be picked up and tried. So why waste energy and money to impeach them unconstitutionally, abusing our law and giving our dear country a bad image as a country where there is no law.

Here is what the constitution said

188. (1) The Governor or Deputy Governor of a state may Removal of Governor be removed from office in accordance with the provisions or Deputy Governor of this section. from office.

(2) Whenever a notice of any allegation in writing signed by not less than one-third of the members of the House of Assembly. (b) stating that the holder of such office is guilty of gross misconduct in the performance of the functions of his office, detailed particulars of which shall be specified.

WHy should we wait till the well is dry be fore we take action? at least now he jump bail but he is hurting his family we know he can't go back to London since he jump bail there too, those accounts are dead. we will kick his family out and sell all his houses, and wait let him come back. his cell is waiting with cold beans and rice with flies flying all over it

notice of allegation should be signed by one-third. It is very clear on that. you forgot to mention this part of the 188 2 (b) in most of the impeachment, it is not the speaker that served the governor involved. They suspend the speaker and appoint another person. All these is abuse of the law and should not be encouraged.

the speaker of the House of Assembly shall, within seven days of the receipt of the notice, cause a copy of the notice to be served on the holder of the office and on each member of the House of Assembly, and shall also cause any statement made in reply to the allegation by the holder of the office, to be served on each member of the House of Assembly.

(9) Where the report of the Panel is that the allegation against the holder of the office has been proved, then within fourteen days of the receipt of the report, the house of Assembly shall consider the report, and if by a resolution of the House of Assembly supported by not less than two-thirds majority of all its members, the report of the Panel is adopted, then the holder of the office shall stand removed form office as from the date of the adoption of the report.

There is no way we can take only the section that will support our arguement and leave the other. I think subsection 9 is clear enough to tell us the number of legislature that will endorse the impeachment.

while one-third can initiate, two-third must adopt the report for a govenor to be impeached

The fight against corruption should not be corrupt itself.
