on a monthly basis gtbank deducts about N950 from my account as sms charges. the funny thing is that no alert for such deduction but a credit alert of about N200 will come in as interest capitalized.

Most of our banks are corporate thieves, but I think First Bank charges more. Sms charge 28 naira, interest 4 naira. An account I stopped using over a year ago. Is it not when you do transaction that you get alert? Union Bank too, they are like First bank
Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by ndukwechinasa: 1:44pm On May 29, 2016
It is not a new thing to get an alert charge frm any bank. It is improper when the charge exceeds the number of sms received in a month. I love FIRST BANK. They have a standard.

First bank is very desperate when it comes to sms charges. I makes several transactions monthly by other banks but the first bank account which is inactive always charges the most.

Don't mind them. Didn't request either but they charged me 148 naira for sms alert last month. I will still sit down and count the sms they sent then multiply by 4 naira cos they be major scammers.

@dotcomnamename call support. First bank has been unlawfully deducting it's customers money any how. I had an almost similar issue when my savings account was deducted for a maintenance fee imposed by the bank unlawfully. I called First Contact and they told me thrash. I mailed their complaints unit and threatened to forward it to the CPD (Consumer protection department ) of CBN and my money was refunded.
Mail them and request a refund

How do we mail them?? Yesterday, 156 naira was deducted from my account.. it happens evry month..

that was how Zenith bank deducted 100 naira from my account and said it was annual maintenance fee.
that one is better. Yes all banks were mandated to deduct N100 annually for account maintenance fee. I think that is OK and the charge is fair enough. But on that SMS charges that they deduct erratically is what is still baffling me cos no one knows how they even calculate the charges. This morning FBN just sent me a debit alert oh N104 for May SMS charges. I don't know whether they also deduct when they send one a birthday wish

Access Bank deducted #28.00 from mine this morning. Just imagine the billions of naira these banks would be making from us
Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by gp6liveth(m): 1:51pm On May 29, 2016
Mine was 15 naira. The worst of it is that the account has been dormant with 1600 naira credits since 2years yet they continue deducting their charges without better equivalent credit interest.

For now it will continue to remain dormant and will not BVN link it until there is a need for me to use it again. Let me manage the already three other accounts I have.
Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by dotcomnamename: 1:52pm On May 29, 2016
linearity:

Email alerts are free, that is what I use for my first bank account.

Try to do your BVN and token, first bank will dhl the token to you. I have done both and the token is great.

Though when I first opened my account, I was charged for a Cheque book that I never requested for and never received.

So if its free then why do they charge me for SMS? According to the email i received from them, they charged me the N56.00 for SMS Alert Charge and i have never received any SMS from them for debit or credit transaction. As for the BVN, there is no BVN enrolment centres here. I don't have BVN for my Nigerian accounts and they've assured me that i don't have problem with that. I recently reconfirmed this on nairaland, and with one of my banks until the bank finally assured me that i don't have problem with having no BVN as there is no center currently available here in Ireland for now but my account is active but they will let me know as soon as they have BVN centre here.

Thank you for your advice jor. Thats why i was like some people don't just understand simple explanation. If it is ordinary N54 to some people, it is nor ordinary to me, it is my money. Is it now a crime to ask about something i don't understand pending the time i hear back from who i have asked before?

Bros, instead of this ignorant scream over 56 naira.

Why not walk into their nearest branch and ask why you were charged. You might not be receiving sms alert but a number you filled on your account opening form (which you aren't using) is receiving this message.

You're billed by the bank on behalf of your network operator. No be ur 50naira the bank wan chop. And ask of the rate of the sms charge.

Cos heritage charges 10naira per sms, the charge varies for each network operator. So get information and stop BLEATING >:
@ bolded. What are you saying? Do you know how much is 50 multiplied by numbers of people they scam all in the name of SMS alert. Just reverse that statement. How much do you think Indomine make for one packet of indomine?

That money is a very big money. SMS charges shouldn't be more than 10 naira.

The FREE mentality has reached a disgusting level.

OP came online to complain about #56 naira deduction that happened once in a month...seriously?

How long has he been with First Bank and how long has he noticed the deduction for OP to come online to tranish a companys reputation with such an heading.

Another thing I have noticed is Nigerians hardly use the channels made available to resolve issues by organisations. Their first instict is to use social media, that will make them more popular and noticed instead of writing a mail or putting a call across to customer care.
you are right from your later paragraphs. But no matter how small the money deductions are, even if it is N1 that was deducted from him, it is his money and FBN should be accountable in making it clearer on why N1 was deducted from anyone account and he has the right to complain or express his dissatisfaction when he feels it was debited unlawfully. N1 or N56 might look small to you, but when deducted to 1,000,000 persons,

so, nor be him 50NGN bank wan chop abii? Seems You don't really know how rich you would become if 500,000 people dey gather 50NGN give you every month.. Banks are perfect thieves. They steal without leaving any trace. Besides a huge percentage of these people dey steal from find it embarrassing to go to a customer care desk to complain that dey are being deducted 50NGN every week for reasons dey don't understand..

Same with my acct, they will just send silly messages like your account as been credit and next debited with same amount, they dont even include the balance, next they charge you sms alert. Imagine such with thousands of customers, electronic robbery.
LOL, I thought I was the only one experiencing this rubbish. They will debit Your account & credit it bck with the same amount, both with SMS, @the end of the month You get billed for that rubbish. An account I've not used for more than a year, I keep being charged every month.
