Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by UGLYS: 2:11pm On May 29, 2016
It is very simple. There is a charge for every sms received from the bank be it a debit or credit transaction, it is never free. Now if you do not want to receive sms alert services, visit any FirstBank branch outlet and request for a de-activation or call/write FirstContact and do ya request. For free services, use the email alert services.

As for me, the bank remains my best. I used to get charges for sms till I got them deactivated.

And for that fella peddling cheap lies of the bank getting liquidated as informed ya by your reliable insider, you should have disowned that false info head on. It is FirstBank, over 100yrs ain't 100months nor 100days. It's 1894 not 1984.

First Bank are thieves! They rob people through different charges they deduct. I've been using first bank for like 8years now buh plannin to close it down soon and go open with another bank. They deduct some useless and meaningless charges. Imagine at times u can just see somethin like '' Payment for atm card maintenance'' and some other charges. Their charges range from 50 naira to 100naira. At times in a month, they can deduct twice from my account and spoilin my money for me. The truth is that they provide good services too and I'm not disputin that, but they rob people indirectly through unnecessary charges.

And to those that are even saying that some banks are charging N10 per SMS, that even elicitate for more reactions. Why will they be charging as high as N10 per SMS, when we know that all networks charges N4 flat rate and we even expect their charges to be lower than N4 cos we all presumed they use cheaper bulk SMS services.

Those defending the Banks should stop because most of them are corporate thieves.

That was exactly how they kept telling us that official dollar to Naira exchange rate is 197 Naira per Dollar but they never deduct such from ATM and other Dollar transactions but rather they charge like Black-marketers.

So what or how do you expect us to describe that. A lot of criminality are going on day in day out on virtually all sectors of this country and even the banks are inclusive.

So allow the OP to complain abeg

I am a (NRN) Non Resident Nigerian customer. I did not sign up for ATM, i did not even sign up for Token device for online Transfer, at least it would be a miracle how money will fly out from my account when i did not request for a Token, coupled with the fact that i don't even have BVN because there is no BVN centre here in Ireland.

I did not request for SMS alert. I only signed up for internet banking just to monitor my account online and i requested for email alert only. But according to First Bank on their website, it is clearly stated that Email Alert is at no cost. See attached below. What do you think?

Somehow there is an SMS alert activated on your account if not they won't dare deduct in the name of SMS alert. Mayb you cant remember but I guess there is a number you used when opening the account if you are the SIM is still active you would av been seeing the alert.
Since you are not residing in Nigeria, you will have to mail them to deactivate the SMS alert. their contact Idea on their website is.

This is pure cheating... grin It is business anyways

When google, facebook and the rest send you SMS for pin codes, they don't charge for this....
The banks are using similar SMS service...

#4 per sms is not much... But my 100 charges on transfer should care for that..

BTW lesson must be learn... Have a business that gives you #1 per month with 1 Million subscribers.... Forget price of fuel you will change level in 1 year

GTB's not. At least, they've never stolen from me outside of the official exchange rate wahala which all banks are guilty of.

Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by opribo(m): 3:20pm On May 29, 2016
This is unexpected from a big bank like Firstbank. How can they debit someone for sms you did not initiate. If they send you your monthly balance as a value added service, why then do they turn around and charge the person. OP please take them to CBN they must refund all your money.

This is the kind of rubbish we see when bankers from do or die banks come to a bank where things are moving normally they come along with their draconian policies. Charge should only be for electronic transactions initiated by you, any other charge is fraud and must be reported.
