Meanwhile, The Ogoni cleanup is nothing but a political manoeuvre aimed at appeasing one of the long suffering tribes of the Niger Delta. I'm not fooled by this romanticization of the event.

Guess u need a transplant somewhere close to your brain...that's what their own son aand brother couldn't do for 6yrs

One of the first projects announced by the government was the clean up of Ogoni Land in June 2015. They have stuck to the task and one year after, it has begun.

Why did other governments not take advantage of such political capital? Bros, give credit to whom it is due and criticize if the occasion calls for it.

This is false. The cleanup has been negotiated and planned long before Buhari came on board. He didnt initiate or complete the negotiations. It just happened to be ready now. Nigeria paid the $10m counterpart funding as part of last years budget. That was a budget prepared by GEJ not Buhari. But that is not even going to do the job. This is just a political stunt. We all know that.

The clean up is a continuous process that will last 30 years..

Do you know that the North East is a whole region not a community?

well i would wonder, if after the whole devastation in the north east , we pick chibok local gov. and talk of reconstruction, and even so it would last many years. i would wonder even more if we only talk of ogoni land in relation to the Niger delta and so over 30 years. well lets see ...

Stop talking about what you know nothing about.

The UNEP report has been out since 2006 and no one did anything about it, till this government.

Your kind can never be pleased. Always looking for some silly excuses to discredit what ever good this government is doing. Give credit where it's due.

Are you educated at all?? Where in Ogoni land is a water way that anyone is dredging for big ships to pass? To pass to where? This types of senseless thoughtless statements are not welcome at all. Which Fulani man was even given the contract? People just go online and talk trash. Education is not just having a degree, it's more of making use of knowledge and logic to make rational choices. There is no rational or logical reasoning in your comment in the context if the discussion topic.

At the Bolded, makes sense.

At the cancelled, thrash. Always learn to appreciate something no matter how little it maybe.

The hatred looming in some people's mind towards this development from the current administration sours their heart so bad that they may commit suicide but then what can we say when the lagos-calabar rail kicks off?

Ogoni land is not one state.. It is within a state. As long as the money budgeted for the clean up is sufficient, what is your problem?

You want them to budget more than what is required?

bros you fall my hands as you keep responding to that guy. His first post was pathetic enough. But his second post really showed...mehn! A person's thinking can't possibly get worse than that.

No sentiment, but the region where majority of the money is being source from, should be used for the development.

It is from the UNEP report... The money for this clean up is coming from oil companies and international organizations specifically for this purpose.

I'm really scared for this our generation, nobody has mention ken saro wiwa of blessed memory.
Ken saro wiwa wiwa and the ogoni "9" died for this and you people are trading blames.
Someone( after 25 yrs) has finally said he didn't died in vain and they would start the clean up, instead of following up to make sure they finish, we display our ignorance and bigotry.

I can bet most of u would be checking on Google who ken saro wiwa is.
