and yes there have always been gay whatever but in what age and time has it reached a scandalous height as in ours...all sins and moral decadence have always been but at what time has it received so much society recognition and less of retribution than in our age?

Yet another untruth...

The Greeks institutionalized homosexuality...Boys were effectively raped in Ancient Greece, and it was accepted as part of the culture, as a necessity almost...Those who didn't partake were considered an oddity...your claim that homosexuality has received more recognition than at any other time in history is candidly wrong...

Hating someone because of their sexuality is ignorant...but it always strikes me how many Christians choose to ignore what they claim Jesus said about judging others...
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by nicetohave(m): 10:18pm On Dec 27, 2005
no one talks of hating the gay here, we talk of denouncing the act---they are two different issues exu.
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by exu(m): 10:21pm On Dec 27, 2005
of course they are...

have you heard the rumour that Jesus was gay?
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by goodguy(m): 10:23pm On Dec 27, 2005
You guys actually believe there's God. But due to your pride and intellectualism, you do not want to admit that he exists. It's a real pity.
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by exu(m): 10:29pm On Dec 27, 2005
Ok, goodguy

1) who is we?

2) what have "we" said that would lead to you think that "we" believe in God?

thanks.

p.s.
the existence (or not) of any higher power still doesn't detract from the fact that the Bible was written by incredibly ignorant men (by modern standards) and is full of inaccuracies...

goodguy:

Isn't it so funny how people are trying so hard to disprove the veracity of the Bible and not some other book?
Are there any other books claiming to be the word of god and the guide for all humanity while at the same time being in contradiction to so much of our established knowledge?

goodguy:

Nferyn, what I posted above is actually not from me. I copied that out from a link.
Empire: A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority.
Actually, I don't think I am in the best position to explain this extensively. I hope you get the answers you inquire from the definition.
Close, but no cigar. There is no single supreme authority in the EU.

I might answer your other objections after I've gone through your other links.

If you're addressing me:

1. No, I don't believe in God and I never have
2. I do not need to admit the existence of an entity that is without meaning to me
3. All your talk about God has not clarified it's meaning at all, on the contrary. This God is the most contradictory entity that must exist. Omnipotence and omniscience imply, by definition, the non-existence of free will, as free will implies choice and choice implies uncertainty. Logically, either your God does not exist or he is limited.

The inaccuracies is in the human mind, as it perceives it, not in the word of God

nicetohave:

The inaccuracies is in the human mind, as it perceives it, not in the word of God
So god put his word in front of fallible men, who inaccurately translated it into the Bible?
Or is it that the Bible is God's word, but that our inaccurate minds cannot understand what's in it?
Or perhaps the inaccuracies of the human mind cannot perceive the word of God and the Bible is only an approximation for it's intended audience (the ancient Israelites)?
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by chrisd(m): 4:12pm On Dec 28, 2005
1)The Bible is God-inspired.
2)The Bible is inerrant when interpreted correctly (science and other observations help us with this task), but not inerrant in a literal sense.
3)The Bible is a physical vehicle used to tell the story of God.
4)God uses imperfect bread, wine, oil, etc, in order to give us grace and act as conduits in which to encounter His mystery.
5)The Bible's origins are divine and human and is not perfect to the letter, yet God uses it to teach us about his Son, and his acts of salvation in history.
6)Fundamentalists err in that they make an assumption that the early Church never made, which is that if the Bible is not inerrant and only interpreted literally, then Christianity falls apart.
7)The Bible is a symbol of God. Just as wine is grown on imperfect soil, made from imperfect grapes, the Bible, while not perfect to the letter, is a divine symbol by which we meet God, and learn of his mercy, love, justice, and redemption by his Word Jesus Christ.
coolThis does not diminish the Bible's accuracy or the timeless message of redemption in Jesus Christ
9)While evolution in no way disproves God, it does disprove a particular fundamentalist view of christianity. The claim of Six-Day Creation is the largest single problem because it's so discredited in every major scientific field. In the process it discredits the entire faith.

The bible is certainly the word of God. the fact that men wrote the bible does not mean that it isn't the word of God, for those who wrote the bible wrote under God's inspiration...they wrote God's thought not their's. Take for instance an old man who cannot write, then he get's someone who is more eligible to help him write a letter to his son..as he is talking the young man is penning his word's down, at the end of the day who would we say wrote the letter? the old man of course because all the word's written down by the young man were his thoughts.  In this case i'm not trying to say that God cannot write, but we cannot expect him to come down to earth to write the bible for us or to write it in heaven and then throw it down for us, that was why he used men to write the bible under his inspiration.
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by flavorflav(f): 6:32pm On Jan 23, 2006
The bible is a biography, translation and promises of God.
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by wahalaman(m): 5:16am On Jan 26, 2006
This might shock you !!! but have an open mind

The Bible is the word of God!! no doubt about that.
cos words came from God

It don't matter where the word is written, it is still the word of God
especially when it is used for a good course.

God has given us the creativity of good and bad

We always attribute good things to God and the bad to the devil,
therefore anybook written with a good intension,
to Uplift people spiritually and making them better their lives in all aspect.
is a holy book- thus the word of God.

this is also true for the Quoran, spiritual pamphlets from different religions, academic brochures,
health magazine, daily news papers, history text books and comics.

As long as they don't motivate you to do evil, it is the word of God.. OK wink
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by nferyn(m): 7:50am On Jan 26, 2006
I like your approach wahalaman. It is your actions that make you what you are, not your words.

If God is love whitout any other ballast attached, hey, maybe even I can believe in God wink

ACTUALLY, THE BIBLE CONTAINS THE INSPIRED AND INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD.
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by luridguy(m): 12:00am On Feb 20, 2006
the bible is the word of God john1 verse 1 says in the begining was the word and the word was with God and the word was God the bible was originally written in hebrew and and was written by people who heard directly from God and if you doubt the bible why not try reading the whole thing and see for yourself what it says
Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by Iknowwhoim(m): 5:17pm On Feb 21, 2006
Luridguy,

Contains the word of God is different frfom the word of God.
Why not quote "if you be the son of God, command that these stones be made bread"
Those was Lucifer's words.
Try quoting Job 17 also with all the curses.

The bible contains God's word, words of men, both righteous and otherwise, words of demons ("if thou cast us out, bid us to go into the swines"), words of angels etc.

Now there were time that those sent by God gave a reported speech from God. That in its reported speech form is the word of God from God.

Holy men anointed by God's Spirit spoke as the Spirit moved the (as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit) to put down the compendium of the bible.

Don't forget the bible talks about the errors of the Jews are for our learning so we don't fall into the same errors.

It also says we should follow the fith of those who have achieved.

Re: Is Bible The Word of God? by Reverend(m): 11:44am On May 09, 2006
Everyone can benefit from the gospel of love. The first commandment to love God with all one's being is essential. So is the ode to unconditional love by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13.

However, following an idealized figure implies more often than not silencing the intellect, making way for a faithful but blind belief.
Even so, faith should be respected, unless it affects the well-being and even lives of other people.

In the case of Christianity the common fallacy that the bible represents the word of God has led to destruction of valuable historical records of early Christianity, persecution of heretics, Jews, homosexuals and witches. It has introduced weird distorted notions, not surprising for peoples of ancient times, but unfitting in our modern age with its unlimited access to knowledge.

The old and new testaments are a product of myths that originated in times that hardly anything about our physical world was known. The fearsome circumstances made people cling to godman-like figures. The Jews projected theirs onto one tribal God: Jahweh. Early Christians created Christ, who undertook to redeem the sins of mankind, or at least of those who placed trust in him.

It is surprising that hundreds of millions of Christians follow blindly outdated biblical commandments. They are prepared to sacrifice everything, even their lives, for their belief. The only sacrifice they are not prepared to make is to use their common sense - their God-given intelligence - to spend a few hours, may be days, to investigate the roots of their faith.

In this respect they are not guided by their churches either. Details of how the bible came to us are hardly given by Church leaders. Amazing discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls or the lost gospel of Thomas, which may well be the oldest one we have, and which gives quite a different view of Jesus' sayings, are not being discussed.
Scholarship has already established centuries ago that it is untenable to maintain that the bible is the word of God. But their findings were hushed up by the churches which fear that it might undermine their sway over the minds of believers. A great deal of attention is paid to the translation of what is termed the original text. This has the appearance of a diversionary tactic to draw away attention from the fact that we have no original text but only poor copies of written traditions.

@ Reverend,
Well said. May the Lord continue to grease your elbows. And, to those of you who're still blindfolded from the truth, I'm still coming to show it to you that your bible is certainly not the word of God.
