We may dance around this issue ,but the fact remains that the Sultan & Emirs are quite content with the pace we are taking as a nation. . . . .Niger republic our neighbours to the North and where most hausas have their ancestral home,is currently ranked the lowest in the recent UNDP Human development Survey.

So why do we expect any improvements in Nigeria? Its just not possible?

My 2 cents. . , cry cry

I have gone through your profile and your posts - all 73 of them
and notice that you even hate politics. All other posts were so
paedestrian and I will refuse to comment on them. In effect, i wish
to humbly ask you to do your homework before making outrageous
posts.

I also gone through the UN survey you made reference to and cannot trace
where the UN survey established your claims. You will realise that we have
an all encompassing leadership deficit in Nigeria. No doubt the figures are not
satisfactory. I want Nigeria to be number 1 and with your impatience and
demand for a faster pace you would too.

In any event, I do not see Nigeria moving at your pace because you have not
grasped the rudiments of assessment and enquiry to contribute meaningfully
achieve the speed you so desperately desire. You have been left behind already.
because you do not even know where oour problem lies.

Allow the man to answer . We can then put the issues in proper perspective.
Except if you are telling me that you are on the same page. Do not read the
post out of context.

We should not derail the thread. The issue is whether the UN document has
blamed anyone for the dismal position of Nigeria in the index. If your persist then I
take it that this is another round of blaming others. The Biafrans are at it again.

Nigeria is moving at a pace that we have all allowed it.
The fulanis and the hausas came to power via what we all know what bogus, what was done abt it and what are still doing about it? i will tell you, nothing, so then, why blame the hausas.
Let us all point fingers at ourselves.

I think you have to read the post again. lets not jst being carried away by sentiments each time a tribe is being mentioned. That was jst an individual rational reasoning and conclusion from the poster which might be right or wrong. I understand where she based her facts but might not be enough to prove her conclusion right.

Yeancah007,

What we are facing today in Nigeria is not solely the fault of the Hausas/Fulanis.
Every tribe, majority or minority, is a partaker in the looting and economic sabotage that has been the bane of our development.

Every leader we have today is a product of the lootocracy institution established and nurtured by their predecessors whether Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba or the so-called minorities.

True, but the Sultan & Emirs contrl the political system. . . . .they are like feudal lords in Nigeria. . . & they are comfortable ith the pace we're moving, , it doesn't really bother them. . . . if in 2009 when people are moving to renewable sources of energy,we are still debating 2,000 or 4,000 MW . . .then there's a serious problem . . . .abi they wan turn us to Niger republic?

It seems to me you have little knowledge about what is going up in the North. The myth that the sultan and emir control the political system can only be believed by someone who have little or no knowledge of the Nigerian political system. The greedy politicians control the system. The sultan can be removed today by the Sokoto State governor and all the Emirs can be removed by state Governors. The Emirs do not even have a say as to who become the governor of a state let alone the direction of the federal government.

Stop blaming the North for the ill of this country. Stop blaming the Fulani for the ill of this country. Look into yourself and find out what is your problem and look for the solution. You can sit down somewhere and expect somebody to do the right thing for you.

You are the one that needs some education in this regard. Forget what you have on paper. . . The Sultan is the head of Muslims in NIGERIA ,how can a gov remove him. . . shocked shocked :oabi u dey joke ? Only the PRESIDENT can remove the Sultan, remember Abacha-DASUKI ? The only place you have 'Emirs' outside Nigeria is in the middle East ,where the rule the entire country(kuwaut, qatar). . . . .they carry both religious & political symbolism,so stop saying things you don't know or are trying to deliberately misconstrue. . . .

The politicians and businessmen, not the emirs/ sultan control everything in Nigeria.
Rilwanu Lukman and Edmund Dakoru controls the oil and gas sector.

Now I know you have little knowledge about the whole thing.

Historically, the Sultan used to be leader of the Northern Nigeria but not something like a president or so. Unlike in Saudi or other Arab countries, the Northern Emirates are semi autonomous. The emirates council decides who become the emir and the sultanate council decides who become the sultan. With the present political system, the governors of the states approves the appointment of the sultan and the emir. The Sultan is symbolically the head of muslim but he is appointed and removed by the state governor. Abacha did not announce the removal of Dasuki, rather the governor of sokoto, Col Mu'aza removed the Sultan. Even today, Yar'adua cannot appoint or remove sultan. The case of Abacha is a different ball of game. He is dictator who decides who your governor, commissioners and even local government chairman.

Most of you that are not from the north wont understand how the system works.

The Sultan and the emirs have little or no political power. The governors are the maximum power brokers. Infact, Governors in the north are more or less like Military dictators.

Thats exactly what I said. . . ON PAPER the governor is responsible, but in REALITY that is not the case. . . .dem never born the gov wey go remove Sultan. . it was widely reported in the papers that the body saddled with appointing the Sultan, had to inform OBJ of their decision before the announcement & every observant person can remember the IBB-DASUKI-ABACHA-MACCIDO saga . also stop referring 'those not from the north'. . .you don't know where am from . . . so don't jump to conclusions. . . .

I definately have to jump into conclusion. Even if you are from north, then your knowledge of Northern politics is still rudumentary. I have indepth knowledge of both inside and outside of the sultanate coucil.

The IBB, DASUKI, ABACHA case is completely different from present politics. What happend there is a personal fights and grudges not political.

You can continue to wallow in ignorance if you believe the sultan and emirs dictate the political pace of Nigeria.

At the moment it is people like james ibori and turai that determine nigerian fate

Most you will be suprise if you are told that the emirs and sultan are not fans of shariah.

The masses in the north are not control by the emir, rather by certain religious group who do not even pay allegiance to the emirs. The politics in the north is rather a bit complicate. The emirs are mere traditional leaders now, just like the obas in the south.
